Really can't see how it can be defended. Even if he was pissed out of his head (which will probably be another excuse at some point), I doubt he is then going to be able to login, find an image, save it, attach it and write a caption that is spelt correctly.

He knew full well what was meant by it, I just don't get what he thought would happen from it.

Joleon Lescott’s pocket managed to tweet a picture of a car once so you never know!

A very stupid and appalling thing to do. I like Baker as a broadcaster, and he always comes across as a decent enough chap - until now.

Well Danny’s intellect as far as I can tell extends to the sausage sandwich game on Saturday in which you have to guess if the celebrity guest has brown, red or no sauce on their sausage. It’s not exactly University challenge
The Sausage Sandwich game was the most boring bit of broadcasting ever invented. The whole Danny Baker show should have been shelved years ago for being an insult to the listeners intellect. As somebody on here intimated, in Millwall fans heads, not an insult but when did that clubs supporters ever have normal thought processes ?

I think it's a shame that we won't hear from Danny Baker again - certainly for a long while - i like him as a broadcaster, and I shall miss his style of wit in the sea of mundanity that is radio these days. However, i think the Beeb are right to sack him, as posting that picture showed extraordinarily poor judgement on his part.

I don't think his next series of one-man shows on his nationwide tour are going to be as well attended as previously!

I think it was a silly thing to do and he's probably rightly been sacked for it. I don't however think he is racist and that the tweet was intended to be racist, I think its a moment of just being a bit thick and not thinking. Though I now feel a bit silly myself as it genuinely took a few moments for the penny to drop for me when I read that tweet earlier to be honest. I was initially confused as to why it was being called racist as I completely forgot who Harry was married to.

How else could the tweet be intended though? Especially with the caption that goes with it that doesn't explain anything otherwise.

Though perhaps this should open more thought that white people should be considering the racial connotation of the things they do, perhaps if they did it would help towards making society a little less racist, though not sure calling Danny Baker a racist is entirely constructive or that I believe it to be true. I don't know.

I'm white and hardly a prude, that tweet can only be processed in one way. It's not as if there are different possible meanings.

I don't know, I just think he's been incredibly thick. His apology hasn't helped the situation either.

Has he apologised?

He has been thick because he posted a tweet that was racist. There's no real other explanation for it.

Now Danny. Mains he didn’t even know who the royal baby was and didn’t know Harry and Meghan were having a baby - this is not a joke he’s said it.

Next: Danny has loads of black mates

He is really saying he had no idea?

Bloke should probably just delete his account sharpish.

Yeah I have seen people try to justify it by Nigel Farage. It doesn't really work though.

As much as I find Danny Baker tiresome and smug, he didn't intend to be racist. Unless he has gone totally rogue and wanted to finish his career and ruin his reputation, which I highly doubt.

He just didn't think about how the picture could be misinterpreted which was a stupid mistake. Should he have got sacked for a genuine mistake?

Alan Sugar and Jeremy Clarkson have said whole heartedly genuinely racist things in the past and have sailed on unscathed.

Maybe making fun of the royals is where the buck stops.

What I don't get is if it wasn't intended to be racist or reference race, how was it intended?

In what way?

Because being a guest on a show isn't really the same as having his own radio show earning 6 figures.

It's like saying somebody who presents Good Morning Britain can post something racist because there was a neo nazi guest on Jeremy Kyle.

That's the thing, it doesn't matter what he intended, he was racist. Racism isn't just outright hatred it's bias inherent in our society and people should be called out when it happens so that others can learn from it.

his "mistake" was to call a two day old mixed race baby a monkey. Yes he should be sacked.

Fair point. As a viewer, I am interested in his lies and I wouldn’t get to hear them if he wasn’t on the beeb as I’m not going to tune in to his shitty radio show.

Oh so he should be sacked for something he didn't consciously mean?!

Perhaps his mistake was not being racist enough to realise that associating a mixed race baby with a chimp is racist.

Thoughts?

Baker should have been sacked. Pointing out the double standards of the BBC doesn't excuse him, it just exposes the hypocrisy of the BBC.

What did he actually mean by it though? This is what I don't get.

He explained it on Twitter.

He said that it was in reference to the whole royal baby thing being a circus. He also said that he doesn't bother himself with the situation and wasn't even aware the baby was mixed race.

What ever happened to giving the benefit of the doubt?

Some people need to start thinking for themselves and not just live life following the knee jerk reactions.

I think he's always posting stock images of old photos and things on his twitter. His radio show used to always have a section called famous people dressed as monkeys with circus music so I guess there might be a theme to his posting.

I do agree it looks bad though, and as I mentioned above I think more white people should be considering the racial connotation of the things they do.

What does that picture have to do with a circus? There are plenty of circus pictures he could use. He really didn't know the baby was mixed race, that's nonsense.

May as well start throwing bananas at black players claiming they just needed a bit of potassium to get them through the game.

in the interview following his dismissal Baker confirmed that it was 'always red sauce' that he would have in his sausage sandwich. The sick fuck!

I just don't get it to be honest. Why on earth would you if you were a "normal" person let alone a "celeb" at the BBC?

Deserved sacking to be honest, even if it turns out he isn't actually racist he's obviously just thick as fuck.

What did he expect to hapen?
Yeah, I agree. Shame because I genuinely like his radio programmes, and I'll miss the randomness on a Saturday morning whenever I'm able to listen.

But... really?!? What would possess him?!? Utter moron!

If he wants to be racist in his own home he's entitled to do so. Just because you obviously don't give a shit about the issue doesn't make it go away.

You're poor at this.

I'm poor at being a reactionary cry baby. Someone made a mistake and then apologised several times. A person with no previous record of saying anything racist in 30 years of broadcasting.

"Put him in the gulag! He did bad thing on Twitter!"

I bet you class yourself as a liberal too. Oh the irony.

A bloke's been racist and your first instinct is to defend him. Says a lot about who you are.

Haha perfect!

I was waiting for that. That's the only argument that reactive SJWs like you have.

Leave common sense to the side and just SHOUT THE LOUDEST AND CALL ANYONE WHO DISAGREES A RACIST!
