You just told us Farage is the man and you would gladly vote for him ( via his Führerprinzip led party). Farage is the ultimate right Wing flag waver.
Respect Farage for helping to deliver the brexit vote,,,,,,,,,Apart from that the man is a total upper class sort cnut......He would cry and cuddle his teddy bear if he had to stay in a working class area..

Anyone can eat banquets every day

No, not really. On a smaller scale my first German girlfriend had a supply of vouchers for free beer, chicken, duck and Schweinshaxe because she worked for the organisation that controls the Oktoberfest - the Munich Tourist Office. She gave me some every day so I could amuse myself at the Oktoberfest whilst she was at work.I needed a break after the first few days... it became hard work eating, and drinking large glasses of beer every day. Enjoyed it though.

Holy Christ!

That sounds like heaven. You should have married her for the vouchers alone.

The point here is that should somebody stupid enough to not think for one moment that what they were posting would cause uproar deserve paid employment in the public eye?

Then again maybe the scene created was the intention from outset

Not remembering that at all is what I am doing.

Have said before I suffer memory problems. Honestly don't remember that at all, so if I did know what she looked like I have certainly forgotten.

I struggle to even remember City games from just a few games back and the other day I couldn't even remember the score from the play-off final, or who we played against.

I am not trying to be an arse, I just honestly cannot remember and honestly cannot recall that Meghan Marrkle picture at all..

Baker makes no secret of the utter contempt in which he holds BBC management and the new generation of programmers, etc. I suspect they were only too happy to see him make such a catastrophic cock-up, and there would have been plenty of volunteer bus drivers!
For someone who prides himself on his recollection of trivia, his pathetic attempt at making the excuse that he didn't know the Duchess is mixed race made it seem a lot worse.
Need to find something else to listen to on my Saturday mornings.
Frank Skinner on Absolute Radio...that's my recommendation

It's a bit of an odd one this, Baker would have been fully aware that the picture would cause this reaction, it's as if he posted it "accidentally on purpose", I just can't work it out?

My first thought was what a good way to get out of your bbc contract if a better offer has come along

Geoff Lloyd did a pretty good job this morning "papering over the cracks", as he put it, with Louise Pepper being a consummate broadcasting professional in carrying on as normal. Be interesting to see what the long-term solution is.

Interesting to see the comments about Alan Sugar, and how the Beeb can't sack him as the Apprentice is produced by an independent production company. Danny Baker's programme was "A Campbell-Davison Media production" - so how is that any different? Who actually employs him?

The bbc will pay some of his wages - a lot of people get round the bbc salary issues by also being paid by a private company

Wow the Thought Police have been busy on this thread imputing motives where there are clearly none intended. Don't believe Danny Baker would deliberately tweet something so outrageous and obnoxious so had to be a very very stupid mistake. We all make them - I'm an implied offender on this very thread. We all know Otis wouldn't give a jot about the colour of anyone's skin - he's probably one of the most moderate and considerate posters on here. I can easily believe he could forget stuff he's posted - he posts thousands of quick-fire stuff and if it's like me, especially with all the celeb crap - I'm aware of it one week and it's totally forgotten the next. Believe it or not - I did know that Megan was of mixed race but until I saw the family picture (couldn't avoid the saturation coverage) I had assumed she had an American-Asian connection. Shows how much I pay attention to this Royal nonsense.

You allow a national broadcaster to get away with a bit of casual racism, next thing women are getting their arses felt at work, just a bit of a laugh, and before you know it we're back in the 70s, (of course some people would welcome that).

She’s the most photographed and talked about woman on earth. She’s always on magazines, news and the internet. It’s laughable anyone could claim they do not know what she looked like.

A fortnight before they got married my wife mentioned Megan Markel's name in some context and looked at me as if I should know who she was talking about. At the time there were two other people listening and they were all surprised when I told them I did not have a clue who they were talking about and had never heard her name up to that point.

Since then I have probably seen maybe no more than a few pictures of her on the internet involving Royal stories and each time I have done no more than briefly scan the image before quickly moving on to something else as I have absolutely no interest in the Royal Family. Can honestly say if I passed her in the street I would not know who she is. I wish them no harm but really think the time has come for a debate on their existence and cost to the National purse, but thats another subject I know.

Danny Baker has no excuse for what he did and am no fan of the BBC but on this occasion they got it absolutely right. He is a national broadcaster and has an obligation to be aware of popular culture and issues and developments to it as they are evolving. That he didn't or could not be bothered to do so reflects badly on him.

No sauce at all.

I genuinely can't remember ever seeing her.

I turn off, or away from any royal news story and don't read any newspapers or magazines.

I genuinely hadn't got much of a clue what she looked like at all and I honestly can't ever remember seeing that photo in the babe thread.

The only thing I know of her is something about some sort of a row with her dad and I have no idea what that is about and I have heard something about some sort of race row, but didn't know what that is about either.

I genuinely switch off, or away from any royal story.

If I have seen her I honestly don't remember ever having done so.

Stop saying it was racism when it was clearly a stupid mistake.

Anyone with an ounce of intellectual honesty knows that.

I am being honest, I think he knew what he was doing, either way it was incredibly stupid and he's never struck me as stupid so fuck knows what he was playing at whichever scenario is true.

I don't have a clue what his thought process was in posting this but he has tried to explain himself, now, people don't have to believe him and that's ok but I don't now what people would be happy with, should he be arrested, birched, beaten to death in the street or all three?

He's been sacked so surely that should be the end of it?

Not for some people, that's why i asked the question, what do people want? I personally think he has paid the price.

I agree. I think he deserved it but don't actually think he's a racist. Trying to understand what he was thinking

Maybe he just thought let me see how far I can push this. Wouldn't be the first celebrity to fall foul of arrogance/hubris/ergo, or whatever you want to call it.

People are just horrible bastards these days. They smell blood and want to end people or 'cancel' as the kids call it. It's mostly disguised as social justice or some kind of crusade for political correctness but at it's heart in cases like this it's just hateful.

Whatever happened to forgiveness? I know I sound like a soft Christian old lady saying that but it's something I see more and more by the day.

If he'd offered his second apology first that might have washed.
What is political correctness?
Do you think you should be able to use derogatory racial slurs?

The trouble is that the social discourse is becoming harder. People are taking sides on social media. The demagogues are actively encouraging it. You only have to watch the Brexit Party rallies to see the crowds booing at the name of Verhofstadt or May or Vince Cable. And the catcalls from the audience e.g. „Traitors“. Worrying.

I'm not engaging with you if you keep insisting that he made a radial slur.

There is nothing to this. Get a fucking grip.

So what was it then? What was his intention?
I'm a Danny Baker fan so would love it to be explained, me proved wrong and the world put back to where it was a few days ago.

I enjoy meeting people who are keen to be offended by everything (and are usually very vocal about it) It's like shooting fish in a barrel.

Latest European polls show that with no policy positions and a sole lying charlatan they will win handsomely and are even making traction in general election polling. And yet we are supposed to believe that the general public isn't full of morons
