Too many "New" to win anything - unless we are very very lucky. Willis, Davies & Hyam in particular had plenty of experience together
Not that much, Hyam played 17 times last season not always alongside Willis, Davies only 25 times again not necessarily with Willis

Sell Bayliss for £2m.

£1m goes towards running of the club, £1m towards transfers

A new GK, LB, RB, LM, CF, ST and we are good to go

You aren't going to have the best players in every position. Mason is solid but not spectacular. Still only 22 I think? So room to improve.
It is a low priority position that's for sure. Would say just about every position other than LB needs sorting first

If “rumours” are to be believed.......

When you work out what we paid for Chaplin, Hiwula and Bakayoko, that sounds about right. Ogogo had a massive sign on fee and we signed pretty much every player we wanted to a new contract. MR certainly got to spend a lot of the McNulty transfer fee we received for McNulty.

We don’t actually know how much any of them cost

We know Chaplin cost about £500k, Hiwula cost a 6 figure sum, and Bakayoko too, if reports are true. That's over half of McNulty's fee off the bat without considering anything else.

We don’t know that at all - I don’t believe for one second we paid anything like the figure quoted for Bakayoko and there is no way Chaplin will have cost a half million spend without conditions

The money had to come from somewhere? Regardless, I think we can come to the conclusion that if the club hadn't received a significant windfall from the Maddison sell-on clause, little, if any of the McNulty transfer fee would've been reinvested back into purchasing replacements.

I agree on Bakayoko, but a 6 figure sum is pretty vague and could mean anything from £100k to £999k. Chaplin, however, a highly rated 21 year old striker who we spent the whole summer trying to sign after selling a player for £1.25m, I don't think is so far fetched. We paid a sign on fee to beat Charlton to sign Ogogo too, he turned out rubbish for us, but still cost us money.

A rough estimate would suggest we spent about half of McNulty's fee on transfers. I don't think MR would be complaining with the support he's recieved, other managers seem to think we spent a fair bit too.

Sorry to be pedantic, but aren't they 6 figure sums? Shouldn't it be £10k-£99.999k

In other words you haven’t a clue what spent and I doubt a six figure sum was spent on Bakayoko

A lot better than the bugger all next year's pairing are going to have, when its Drysdale or Rose with McF because Hyam is out for some reason

The rumour on Bakayoko was 70k up front. I live 8 miles from Reading and the figures they were talking about for Mcnulty were a lot less than what we were talking about. Rumour down here was 700k + add ons up to 1.2 million paid over 4 years.
We will never know we just guess but it gives us something to talk about over the summer.

Two huge performances by Ben Turner for Mansfield in the play off semis - Mansfield fans raving about him (think he may be out of contract) 32, a bit slow, but a beast if stays fit. Wages wouldn't be too bad.

Just love the aerial threat Ben turner offers in the opposition box, plus defensively for us. Obvious issues if he/Mc Fazdean are too similar against pace, but if you could get 30+ games out of Ben turner, I'd be sorely tempted (obviously only if Willis leaves)

That’s the issue though, chances we’ll get 30 games out of him is slim! We need durable players and that means having a contingency if Kelly gets injured. Side note: if only Kelly had Doyle’s durability!

Think there was a rumour of 75k. There was also a rumour of 150k (or was it 300k Baka, 150k Hiwula?). It's anyone's guess. Theoretically both could be correct, 75k rising to 150k if conditions are met. All just guess work.

Seemingly we did have quite a competitive budget either way though. We've got a foundation to build on for next year despite losing some players. Think we could've spent the money on strikers better though. Hiwula has done well, particularly later in the season, but the others have definitely underperformed.
