Chant (6 Viewers)

It’s driven me crazy for hours. Is there a chant, suited to us or football in general, with something to do with Lily the Pink? I’ve heard it occasionally at the odd away game, but far more so in pubs. It’s not even that important, just one of those pointless things I can’t get off my mind.

Man City had one that I found, if it can jog any memories:

We'll drink a drink a drink
To Colin the King the King the King
He's the leader of Man City
He's the greatest inside forward
That the world has ever seen

In 2008, someone on here called dilligaf said it was his favourite chant but didn’t bother to put down lyrics, damn him

From my sketchy memory
We'll drink a drink a drink
To lily the pink the pink the pink
The saviour of the human race
For she invented the Coventry City
The greatest team in all the land.
Or something like that

Didn't we also used to sing 'We all agree, Coventry City are magic?'

Followed by 'Aston Villa are tragic.'

A Mexican mariachi tune wasn't it?

We used to sing that at junior school in the lates 70s early 80s except it was Liverpool are tragic.
I've only just realised it's a Mexican Mariachi tune!!

I think that was more a Liverpool/ Everton thing from what I remember - the anti Villa songs tended to be much more vitriolic. 'My old man said be a Villa fan', 'Hes only a poor little Brummie', ' The Villa sing, I dont know why coz after the match they're going to die' etc etc.
There were the occasional less brutal & more humorous ones - I remember the West End singing 'Lip up fatty, lip up fatty fatty Rimmer' to the Bad Manners tune of the time.

We definitely sang 'Coventry City are magic. ' I remember singing it. And the Villa bit on the end.

I’m trying to think of the name of the tune, I’m sure it is well known. The other version of that was
‘We all agree, Ian Wallace is magic’. This was also written as graffiti on the side of the bridge over the island under the A45 at Allesley. Font of useless knowledge!

We all agree, Bill Glazier is better than Yashin.
Xxxxxxx is better than Eusebio and United are in for a thrashing.

That’s how I remember it.

The proper translated words are just as cringeworthy as the terrace version

“You, me and I/ these are my favourite people/ we go together like peaches and cream/ the church the bell and the steeple”.

The Hiwula / La bamba Chant is another example of football adopting Central American camp. The lyrics to that are bizarre too (I’m not a sailor/I’m the captain)
