"How do I tell my son/daughter they can't go to the match (6 Viewers)

I've seen this question a lot on social media since yesterday lunch time.

Simple answer... You don't. Take them!

The only way this club survives is having them go... I appreciate that 80% of these 'I won't go' people never go anyway.

But I hope that solves your dilemma people.

I think they are expecting us to believe that their precious child had this reaction when they heard the news that Coventry City had left the Ricoh Arena. The truth is the child probably doesn't care less that we will play our games in Birmingham next season and the parent is just seeking some much needed attention on social media. GROW THE F**K UP!

Honestly think people are underestimating the damage this will do to us, especially with no obvious return in sight.

Attendances will show, that despite people thinking it’s all keyboard warriors, where we play our home games matters to some, to the point they won’t go. For some, that’s their tipping point.

Let’s face it, if distance didn’t matter, we would take 8k to all away games.

For others it would be a name change to Warwickshire F.C., for others it will be something else, including on the field performances.

The last move caused us to lose a lot of fans, especially some from the next generation. this one will be the same and the longer it goes on without an end in sight, the more damage it will do.

I’d love us as a fan base and as a city to stand together, but it simply won’t happen

A friend of mine tweeted this morning he won't go to any home games from now on. The tweet got many likes, but the truth is we used to sit together at the Ricoh Arena and he stopped going back in 2012. Yet, he's making out like he has never missed a game since day dot.

My point being, a lot of people kicking off on social media probably wouldn't go if we were playing in Coventry, Birmingham or in their back garden.

Let’s assume your right (not saying your not). Attendances will prove if It’s people acting on the internet or acting with their feet.

Yeah they do seem to shout the loudest. Like when we were at sixfields and people giving it sob stories about how it's ruined their lives and then they don't bother after one game back.

Attention seeking c*NTS.

I don't like this constant talk of boycott.

So many people are just saying they won't be going. It's very few who are actually saying they will boycott.

It will do as much or as little damage as we allow. If as many people as possible go to Birmingham the damage will be minimal. If a boycott gains traction there will be a large amount of damage.

Those who shout the loudest hey.

For every one person who “boycotts” i suspect there will be 5 who simply don’t want to travel or don’t feel as engaged with a club playing 20 miles from home.

All the focus will be on the 50/100 protesters, not those who aren’t vocal, aren’t on a forum but simply won’t be attending or getting a season ticket

I'll be taking my little one to their first ever game next season and it will be at blues. She doesn't care where they play, she just wants to watch them and sing some songs

The first song you need to teach her
F.... the wasps
F.... SISU
F...the council and the Villa too

We're all wound up by it, but you go or you don't go. Your choice at the end of the day; but if we go belly up and you could have gone, but chose not to. … don't moan.
Hopefully we won't go belly up.

Going belly up feels inevitable as ever now. We’ve been pushed onto thin ice, and it will break sooner or later. The shit has hit the fan. Whether people like it or not, the majority of the 10000 regulars won’t be attending St Andrews. Think this move is too much of a big careless gamble, resting on Wasps going pop or an imaginary stadium.

I struggle to see a way back.

It either needs Wasps to do a complete 180 or a new stadium.

The council seem to be unwilling to do anything but the absolute minimum required by law when it comes to a new stadium. That means if, and its a huge if, SISU actually are going to build a stadium we could be looking at 10 years or more before it's built. Look at other clubs who have tried building a new stadium without the support of their local council.

lets face it, the attendances will be less than half that, because some people have principles and don’t want to travel 20 miles up the road every other weekend. Most people can understand that.

How far does Coventry council have a remit for, do they cover leamington / Warwick ?
For planning only up to the border but they have a say if it impacts the cities infrastructure.

If you recall we were looking at Brandon at one point. CBRE indicated an agreement had been made, the landowner confirmed (without mentioning the football club by name), Rugby council also confirmed they had been talking with the club. Then it was all off and the next thing we heard was Fisher at a Rugby council meeting saying any new stadium site must be beyond the influence of CCC.

I'd love to see the bit about the landowner confirming an agreement to buy Brandon had been reached.

My understanding of Brandon is:

  • RBC have been firm in their desire for Brandon to remain a speedway stadium.
  • The speedway team were expecting to stay there, and had a lease to do so. Indeed, I went to meets where the promoters said in no uncertain terms that rumours about the football club building a ground there were false, and unwelcome.
  • The owners of Brandon want to build houses on it. They have no desire to sell it for a football stadium.

Discussions between RBC and CCFC were never formal, never on record beyond enquiries about sites for a training ground. They did indeed speak informally, about land opportunities for a football stadium in a general sense, and little progress was made. These talks were also rather hastily arranged after the FOI requests started going in - we're talking March 2015.

Was a comment from GVA to the Telegraph. Suspect it is still on their site if you want to search for it.

The point I was making was just because a site is over the border doesn't mean it is beyond the reach of CCC's influence.

The more I think about it the more I think the Butts is the obvious answer.

Although of course, it is not because of the new pitch etc.

I have searched for it, and haven't found it, hence I was asking if you could point me towards it. Ta :)

Great to hear you've been given the all clear.

When we were getting relegated from the Prem my mate – who lives in South London – took his 8yo lad to his first game and our last Prem game.

He spent the next few years coming to Highfield Road and then the Ricoh, spending the pre-match in the corner of the pub reading fanzines and sipping coke.

Fast forward a few years and he’s been to college, got a job and is buying rounds. We’re going out after games, celebrating or commiserating.

Take your kid to the match. They’ll love you forever.
