I know this should probably be on the off topic forum, but if there is a thread on the Lee Pomeroy murder, I thought I could start one on Boris Johnson.

Forget if you're Labour or Tory, Brexit or Remain, a Guardian reader or a Telegraph reader.......can it ever be right for a neighbour to secretly record you in the privacy of your own home (or that of your girlfriend). I could just about forgive that if the recording was only ever meant to be for the police to listen do, but the sanctimonious little prick went to the newspapers with it. If that was my neighbour, I would want to bang him out.

its dog eat dog isn't it

Not sure about dog eat dog, more like road runner. Hasn't the neighbour now fled his home after getting death threats? This is a bit like the Paul Crowther and his milkshake moment. These guys want their 15 minutes of fame, until it backfires on them.

If the noise is loud enough to be recorded within your own home, why not?
Why shouldn't the Prime Minister be asked why his missus was screaming? He'll no doubt be on his ivory tower about domestic abuse when the next big case drops...

Wasn't he recording it right outside Boris' girlfriends flat? If so, not exactly in your "own" home is it?

100% an Invasion of privacy if he stood outside the door with recoding device in hand (possibly getting a semi with feverish excitement of the damage he felt his actions could do to his neighbours leadership bid). If however, he recorded it in his house for the police, as he was genuinely concerned, thats a very different matter and that's very kind and helpful of him.

My issue really is with what happened next and the way the agenda driven guardian used the audio and tried to exploit the situation to smear a politician and make political capital out of an argument. I would be saying the same thing if it was any politician who was treated this way.

In reality tho as we saw with Trump in America, the voting population appear to be wise to dirty tricks media tactics and more than ever see through bias and politicized news coverage.

If I can hear you in my house, you’re not “in the privacy of your own home” are you?

I think this story is silly and a great example of the lack of political nous of the Remain movement and the anti-Boris movement, but yes people should call the police if they suspect a domestic and yes people are entitled to record sounds in their own house and do what they want with them.

So the people who voted in that lying, racist, sex offending orange skin c**t were wise?

Disgusting that this story was all about the "remainer" who recorded it rather than the racist twat Johnson.

God help us if he becomes PM.

The tape was crucial evidence because until it turned up the coppers were all set to pretend they’d never been called & never attended.

I’ve heard a domestic through the wall in the middle of the night where I live now, and let me tell you it is fucking frightening. Not to mention having to listen to it all kick off downstairs when I was little, and pretending to myself it wasn’t happening.

If he is an abuser, we all urgently need to know about it because that is 100% the last person you ever want in a position of power, brexit or no brexit.

So as far as I’m concerned that’s a vital public service that’s been rendered to get it known about.

A few points.... I am only highlighting the way he was smeared by nearly every media outlet did not convince the people of America not to vote for him. It was an example of how established media are less powerful than they used to be in effecting outcomes and brainwashing those that struggle with independent analysis of a situation.
You missed misogynistic off your Trump slurs too btw!!

Not sure it gives your post much credibility when you call someone a racist and an orange skinned c*nt in the same sentence. Also when was Donald Trump convicted of sex offending again?
If we're talking about lying let's remember the American people were offered a binary choice between Trump and a political dynasty in the Clintons who frankly have a history of being anything but honest.

And the majority of the voting public chose Clinton, but that's the American voting system for you.

100% agree and if I was American I would be deeply dissatisfied with how it favours some States votes over others.
I am also not a fan of ours either and would welcome Proportional representation as it can't be right that UKIP got 3.9m votes and next to no voice in parliament and the Tories got 11.3m votes and 300+ seats. The Green party got hugely underrepresented too. It creates tactical voting rather than people voting for what political party most closely represents their views.

Sorry if my response to your post came across as a bit confrontational, but I really believe Trump is an odious specimen who should be held in the same regard as a litany of other leaders from the past who have been rightfully vilified. He seems to escape any serious condemnation because of the office he holds. He is extremely dangerous and - contrary to your views - is not being called out as a bully, a racist, and a potential mass murderer (climate change action obstruction as one example, Yemen another) by huge sections of the media.
A few points of my own:
You suggest my description of him as orange-skinned was racist. Get a grip. He is orange skinned because of his tanning regime. If you could just remind me which ethnic groups have orange skin apart from the Oompah Lumpahs, I'd love to hear it.
To say nearly every media outlet was against him his ridiculous and untrue.
I agree that the established media is less powerful but he has plenty of friends in the established media, such as his fan club, AKA Fox News. He has successfully gained credibility precisely be vilifying the media and screaming about fake news - which is ironic considering he lies every time he opens his mouth or tweets.
You mistakenly refer to my descriptions of him as slurs.
Are you seriously naive enough to imply that the reason he hasn't been convicted of sex offending is that the 16 women who have had the courage to come forward and make the complaints (there are doubtless many more who haven't spoken up) are all lying?
FFS. He hasn't been convicted because of the office he holds. He is not just a bully, but an extremely powerful one. Read up on the allegations made. If, after doing so, you don't believe any of them and believe the self-confessed "pussy-grabber", I would find it very hard to understand that position.
Your final point certainly rings true, but I think that 'political dynasty' might have had a different outcome in the election if it was a brother of Bill's, rather than a wife.

If you're on tape as talking about 'grabbing women by the pussy' then to me you've just admitted that you're a sex offender, or at the very least someone who'd have no problem with doing it. That wasn't a smear.. that was a fact.

Indeed there are a lot of facts about Trump that he and his supporters would like to pretend were 'smears', it's a trick that they play to fool the soft-minded.

Boris wasn't 'smeared', he was recorded having what sounded to be a threatening, violent argument with his partner. It's not unreasonable to use this and other evidence of his character to determine whether he would make a fit and proper leader of the country.

Hate modern politics. Sneaky tactics.

Take that waffle Boris spouted about Painting model busses in his spare time. Got loads of column inches and headlines and he upholds his loveable buffoon image. But the real reason that comment was made was to bury the other story that would be linked if you search the key words Boris & Bus, The famous Brexit Bus with the fake figures for the NHS on it.

Deffo shifty calculated tactics. Shame the other candidate is Hunt. Thoroughly depressing times

I would say it is entirely right that UKIP got no voice in parliament.

So many similarities between Boris’ leadership bid and Trump’s campaign it has to involve Bannon in some form. He know the candidates are flawed characters so is constantly dropping things into the media, positive or negative, so that people can’t focus on an issue for very long before they’re talking about something else and before long it looks like smears because ‘nobody can be that bad’.

Bannon for what it’s worth is an odious cretin with some very dangerous views but a hell of a campaigner who is the first to really adjust to modern media.

Boris is full of shit.
He said about cutting taxes if Brexit came in, then when it became obvious they would win, one of the reporters got hold of him and said what taxrs and how will you cut taxes. His reply was, I said they COULD be cut, it's upto the people in power to work it out.
So some people voted on tax cuts he mentioned but within minutes of the result he had no idea of how to deliver them.

Agenda driven Guardian, all of our media is Agenda driven... All of our news is politicised. If you don't realise that perhaps you are giving the nation to much credit.

Worst thing will be if the story the masses receive is not to intervene when things are clearly not ok. If you’re scared for someone’s safety do something.

I grew up in a house where arguments and smashed things were a regular occurrence.

Once called the police where we lived in hilllfields when a front door was smashed in in the middle of the night. They knocked on our door to ask about it which was really helpful that the couple that were arguing knew who’d called the police. Still the right thing to do. Oh but it’s not Eton types that murder their girlfriends!! Oh yes it is

Brexiters are like me when I get some extra cash, spend it ten times over in their head before realising it can only go one place and that's probably paying off the overdraft.
