I was getting served beer at games at 14-15 and making the most of it. Most memories are a blur after a balti pie and 3 pints in the west terrace.

I’ll ‘refresh’ your memory m8.

You did the same for Cédric Roussel

I don't know how much truth there was in it as there was nothing in Richardson's recent interview when this was brought up to suggest we were being bankrolled, but I did hear at the time that we were never going to keep Robbie Keane. Inter were always going to buy him for an agreed £11m and they loaned us the money to get him (we only paid £6m I think) for the season as they wanted him to have top flight experience before he played for Inter. If true, then a great piece of business to get a guaranteed £5m profit and a top player for the season. However I didn't really believe it at the time and not sure I do in hindsight, but wondered if anyone else had heard similar?

Don’t let one bit of good business blind you from the 60m in the hole

I think it's totally feasible considering the wide boys we had running the club at the time.

My memory isn’t what it was, and I can’t find my copy of ‘Staying Up’, but wasn’t this all discussed in there? Think it was called the ‘racehorse scheme’ or suchlike, and involved a group of investors putting up money for players with the sole intention of moving them on for a profit. May be getting things mixed up, but I thought that was how we funded it. Don’t think it was explicitly stated that the Keane deal was pre-arranged, but could well have been.

Yeah, and there was that time we persuaded Robert Jarni to sign for us instead of R.Madrid.

Oh, hang on....
That Robert Jarni deal was one of the most dodgy things ever at the club. The fact he turned up to watch us get thrashed in preseason with his agent was interesting! I expect the agent only turned up to get his fee in used notes in a plastic bag

Yeah, but it's given Duffer a nice avatar (if that's what you call those little pics to the left), so all good :)

When we bought Keane it was big news at the time lovable Rodney Marsh said on Sky Sports that he would be sold to Leeds in 12 months, co-pundit Frank McLintock called Marsh an idiot basically, but as we know Keane did go to Leeds via Inter

You know how other clubs that fall into trouble, some on here say they deserve everything they get because fans lapped up the big money signings and didn't care where the money was coming from...?

Just me who's slightly worried how all this is being funded?

Shhhhhhhhhhh

Serious answer: where’s all the other funding come from? In for £70m in for £600k. The time to care about our debt was long ago.

At this point we either go pop or get sold with debt written off. Been like that for a while.

Just got back from trekking in Morocco - mentioned Hadji & Chippo to the guide and he was raving about them. Never heard of CCFC though :pigeon:

Coincidence. I was Star Trekking on Netflix earlier.

IF we sign bright, I wonder what % sell on clause wolves will put into the deal because he has the prospect of being sold for a fair whack in a couple of seasons based on last years performances.
