You not been to concerts before then? They all rip you off. Drinks, merchandise, food. You know yourself at the Ricoh the prices were inflated.
They see the monopoly opportunity and milk it.

This is what I mean. The perception as it’s cheap is that other things will be as well. The only band I was remotely interested in ever was The Darkness but I wouldn’t have gone for free but would have paid reasonable money to see it

Exactly, been to Glastonbury a few times and yes there are those types who are middle classed hippies (or try to be) but most just love bands and music

Because it will be a full serious concert - not a half arsed effort for 40 minutes to promote a tour - and will as it costs only get people there who want to see the bands - not a load of pissed up teenagers who just stagger around as it’s free

Having to pay £2 for entry is nothing, but the prices when inside was an absolute joke.
The sound quality on the main stage was very poor, and could hear the rhythm tent more clear than the main stage.
The council really does need to decide what it is. It can’t claim to be the biggest free festival, so does it go budget festival and keep it as it is with has-beens and never was, go higher end acts and push the costs more in line with that, or go back to the roots of the festival and showcase just local talent.
If they do go for bands of quality, for the love of god move the rhythm tent or even better go for just two Open stages. Maybe move the family area next to the main stage and have the 2nd stage in the area where the family area is now.
The security and policing was awful, the toilets just outside the gates there were drug dealers opening dealing with the police standing close by just turning a blind eye. My wife and the other people on my group felt very uncomfortable.

TBF I suspect I got ripped off somehow, the prices at that chicken and loaded fries place were impossible to read.
Really noticed the lack of smaller outlets to be honest. I said to the kids I’d buy them dinner there cos I remember there usually being a good selection of street food. What was there was terrible and an absolute rip off. Cheap food like you’d see in the rat burger vans outside SkyDome at prices that’s make your eyes water if you saw them in central London.
Just more fuel to my fire about how it’s gone shit since they tried to make it professional. Felt weird today, lost a lot of the community feel and just seemed to be people trying to make a quick buck with some tat.

There were definitely less outlets and some missing small ones. Bubble Boba from Fargo are usually there and so too, Sno Shack (flavoured ice).
Best value was at the one Indian place. They had 3 bhajis or 3 samosas or a combination of both, for £3. And they were delicious. I recommended them to a few people. Very nice.
That was in the field with the community tent and Paradise Tent.
Anyway, overall, I had a great time. Saw some great stand up comedy, acrobats and clowns, owls and falcons, the petting zoo, some good bands and lots of interesting stuff in the community tent and it all for just two quid.
Couldn't really find much to complain about and I always make sure I eat first before I go out anyway.
On Saturday I was there for 9 hours. Loved it, despite there being no bands I particularly wanted to see.

That will kill it off stone dead. It's supposed to be a local festival. If it does that then it's just becoming another festival they have everywhere else. No will pay that money.

I had a laugh, but I doubt I'll be going next year if they keep the beer and food prices like that though. I'd already had a few in the city arms before I got there, so panic bought 2 double gin and tonics which were put into 1 plastic pint and it cost me £20! My own fault I suppose but still.
Never really bothered about any of the actual music so if it was ticketed at a normal festival price I'd definitely swerve it.
Edit: Saying that about prices, it's the same at any festival so I shouldn't be moaning really.

I know a lot of people who go out and re-enter during the day so are they counted multiple times?
I thought yesterday was the most crowded I'd seen it on a Sunday.

It would work, but not named as the Godiva Festival as the point is it's not a normal festival.
But a normal festival at the Memorial Park at normal festival prices would work.

Most of the laughs we had were via people watching.
The woman who was probably about 20 stone wearing a fishnet outfit was a highlight.

My mistake they said it makes it more precise which makes more sense. The figures every year come from the same source - the council.
Didn't bother heading over this year. Was planning to go Saturday evening but didn't in the end. Would say that it looks far quieter on the photos people have posted on line and living near the park it was barely noticeable it was on unlike past years.

This is the thing for me.
Do they want a music festival? If so do it properly and bin off the other stuff.
Or do they want something more for local organisations, similar to what we had back in the day with the carnival. Something for all the family. You can still have music with that obviously but it wouldn't be the main focus.

Fair play Otis. Sounds like you enjoyed yourself, and packed a lot in and all for a couple of quid entrance fee. My mate went to the NEC last Sunday to see Status Quo and Lynnrd Skynyrd, and his ticket albeit for front of the stage cost him£125.00 and was there for about 4 hours. Who got value for money ? You or my pal ?
