Jesus, some of our fans are just thick morons, aren't they?

They conveniently forgot to mention the important goals he has scored this season. Idiots.

Not as moronic as Sunderland fans though surely

Given the nature of twitter the minute a footballer put themselves out there their always likely to get comments like that, he would be very naive not to expect some comments like that.

I can understand peoples anger and I don't think the comments are that bad!, its not the way I would express myself, but to an extent people have freedom to say what they like.

Lets not forget he's relatively well paid for what he does, is it too much to expect that he would be able to stick the ball in the back of the net from 12 yards ;-)

i am all for freedom of speech but some of these comments are just plain moronic. i was listening to CWR listening to some prick who said he didnt want to score, what a feckin eejit!

Can we all tweet a player and ask them to tell sheff that we all still believe in him. Feel really sorry for the guy, cause he probably feels like he was the reason for relegating his much beloved club. Just wish sheff could see this thread. I'd say tweet @ONorwood - he seems a friendly chap.

Tweet? Tweet? I'll do the Birdy Song!
And who said earlier that he didn't miss the penalty "because it was saved"? A penalty not scored is a MISSED PENALTY whether off the mark or saved! McSheefery doesn't deserve the abuse, but not to have scored such an important penalty is a disgrace, especially as he is supposed to be a huge city fan at heart as well as a player in the squad!

That tends to imply that he somehow missed on purpose HH :thinking about:

a penalty is 50/50.. some people seem to think he should have somehow known which way taylor was going to dive.

Just out of interest

- how many penalties have we had this season?
- how many have we missed?
- and assuming the miss to be the only change to the final score how many points has it cost us?

I think we've had 9 scored 5

Missed v reading - cost 2 points
V Leicester - cost 0 points
V millwall - cost 1 point
V Cardiff cost 2 points

thanks guys - something else that adds to the reasons we didnt get enough points. In amongst the big reasons there are lots of smaller things we could have done better.

9 penalties is quite a few though - I think there have been seasons where we have only got a couple in the past.

No, a penalty saved is not a missed penalty. Ask any keeper, they will all tell you when they saved a penalty. I was a keeper and I was pretty good with pens, I can remember all the ones I saved and none of the ones that were missed against me. If it was a crap pen then fair enough, truth is it was going in just inside the post. That was a good save from Taylor.

I'm coming to terms with League 1 slowly but surely. We must never stop believing and I believe we'll come back better and stronger for this.

I wouldn't mind so much if we had good promotion season down there. Be nice to see us winning and city fans having a ball on away days!!

I do feel for him to be honest, no player means to miss a pen. But the fact is they do, even the greatest players have missed them. Its been a shit season and frustration has bubbled over, not only from the fans but the management ie AT's out burst. The one pen miss did not get us relegated, its far more deep routed than that. I hope Little Sheff stays with us next season, could be a real asset. I can see him and Cody getting a hat full of goals.

it was without doubt a poor penalty - no power, nice height etc
It didnt cost us 1 point, but 3 as we would have gone on to win the game

a professional footballer who trains all week, should put a pen away 9 times out of 10, so missing so many is not excusable

The best players of all time have missed penalties. Half of it's a guessing game with the keeper.

No BSB. I'm implying that as a "fan" and player, he didn't try hard enough to score from the spot!

It's silly to say he didn't try. Of course he tried but the pressure was too much. Dublin was a superb penalty taker but against Sheffield in the cup the pressure did for him. It happens. To blame him or imply he didn't try is not sensible. Someone said this on Cwr I was dumbfounded.

tbf I can understand peoples reaction to an extent. I expect the majority of fans shouted angrily or calling him names to themselves when he misses the penalty, twitter is an easy way to vent that anger as it is right on your finger tips. I expect if those people had waited 24 hours to calm down then they wouldn't have sent them tweets but it was easy to do so at the time.

It was a huge miss given the context but that isn't what has relegated us, Sheffers has had a mixed season but take out his goals and we would most likely be relegated now/sooner.

I said a few weeks ago I would still have Clingan on penalties, he has the best technique for striking a ball.
