God we’ve had some tripe-Jordan Clarke only second behind Ryan Haynes as the worst left back we’ve had in my time watching the Sky Blues.

The thing about football:
Some dont make it because they dont have the talent.
Some have the talent but just dont make it.
Some dont have the talent but make it.
Some have the talent but choose not to make it.
Some have the talent and want to make it but fuck up.
Some have the talent but managers fuck up.
Some have the talent but injury fucks tbem up.
Some have the talent but are just fucked up.

Aaron Phillips is at Kidderminster I believe. Big fall from the 50 odd appearances he made for us.

Jordan Clarke is still playing for Scunthorpe as far as I know.

Aaron Phillips and Billy Daniels are both at Kidderminster.

Connor Thomas is at Cheltenham.

Sorry, yes should have said full back.

Ok, I’m going to pick you up on that one then (again!). There have been far worse full backs than these two, Clarke FWIW was pretty reasonable. Certainly better than Carl Dickinson, than Lewis Page, Jamie Sterry, Jamie Reckord, Martin Lorentzson, hell even arguably Aaron Phillips. Your hatred of our academy slips into parody at times.

I have a fond memory of Phillips with the goal at Wolves. I literally have no idea who any of those are apart from Sterry though!

Lorentzson! A Swedish international. They must have been struggling at the time. He was certainly no Nilsson.

When he was a guest In the Nii Lamptey podcast Kieran Crowley was scathing abt Lorentzson saying he was a poor footballer, and the Mowbray management team realised he was a mistake very early on. On the record of his international status, Crowley said it was hugely exaggerated- iirc he stated that he played for a Sweden XI against some US side or something similar.

Do always wonder with those sort of signings. Imagine the first training session and you turn to your assistant and just utter... Ffs

Really? Each to their own I guess.
Never forget the classic from Thorn regarding Clarke that “he could go on and play for England”.
Priceless. On par with Burge could be a World Cup winner.

Id forgotten he only had the one cap. Makes sense having seen him play. He was shite.
As an aside, would Mowbray/managers in general cast an eye over all signings or would they rely on their scouts or AN Other to know what they’re supposed to be looking for and simply go out and get them?
I mean all clubs sign players that ‘don’t work out’ but occasionally proper duds are picked up. Obviously budget restrictions apply.

Mowbray has signed England international Olly Murs on the basis of his recent cap against the rest of the world

Jordan Stewart, Peter Ramage, Stephen Wright, Chris Hussey, Stephen O'Halloran. All dodgy AF at full back for us. Clarke wasn't worse than any of those.

Jordan Stewart booting a Walsall player and getting sent off was fun. The result however...

That was a bad day out. Getting done 4-0 on Easter Monday IIRC by Midlands minnows then coming in for earfuls of abuse from the home fans from the station afterwards. All in a locale that made the words bit of Cov look like a holiday destination.

I quite liked Clarke. He just made a few mistakes and lost confidence, not helped with the likes of Adge jumping on every error

Yeah me too. I was disappointed when he played left, especially after fighting his way back from the bomb squad. He just needed more experience and confidence. He left just as he was looking like he could be highly effective.
