There is no such thing as a proven 15 goal a year striker.

Let's look at last season. Even the top teams didn't have players with a history at league one level. Collins has played one decent season in league one.
Moore and Woodrow again no proven goal records.
Taylor one season at league 2 above 15 goals. And he's 29 so again no record. Grant had never really scored before last season.
Portsmouth had what you would consider a 20 goal a season striker (pitman) who only got 9 but instead had lots of players around 10.
Sunderland - had Maja who had no proven record. Then signed Grigg who didn't do it?
Doncaster- marquis was probably the only one who had a record and kept to it.

This.

I’m a strong believer that a 15/20-a-season striker is more a function of the team around them and a good season/penalty taking duties/a couple of purple patches, than some magical ingredient that you go out and buy. Hiwula, for example, could easily score 20 given enough games, enough luck, and a team in form.

The exception here of course is top level players, but they are few and far between and don’t stick around at L1 level.

I write this with a heavy heart , he is not at the standard required , when he misses all those future chances and people slagging him off I will trot out this thread . He has ‘ managed ‘ to earn money dispite the fact he knows nothing on how to play football , also before anyone starts ‘ jumping around ‘ to reply please remember the season we were promoted he was carried and flattered by McNulty . The option here is a bench player well that will suit him and me just fine . He can always cut the oranges at half time .

He knows nothing on how to play football????!!!!! Who are you??
He is the guy who started the thread wanting Robins sacked in Feb 2018
Motor Vehicle for Robins

then predicted relegation in 2019 until we signed Chaplin and then bet on him for top scorer in L1.

A great season by anyone’s standards given where we came from last year , well done to the team , as for playoffs we shall see but if not I won’t be too bothered , i was convinced we would be relegated this season and I was so so wrong . We should not under estimate on a few bad results what a good season we have had. If we can lure in a couple more decent over the summer we could be flying next season

After last years success with McNulty on the each way side I have placed another bet on Chaplin

I got 66 to 1 at Bet fair and quarter odds on first 4 .

The omens and parallels are spooky , he got his first on Sat as well ! Don’t miss out this time as you have been given fair warning . Good Luck

I wouldn't let him upset you too much Pete :)

Yep I am also the guy who bet on McNulty when some were calling him other names and won .
I firmly believe we were not relegated because Biamou did not play.

Stop your stalking and have an opinion

Not sure I really get the love in. So he takes a few selfies and waves now and again to the fans and for some unknown reason this constitutes a good player and clouds peoples judgement.
Him and Baka up front just not potent enough and it’s clear to see that reinforcements are still very much order of the day.

I bet graham withey wished he played in this era - some fans actually would have thought he was good

The jury's out admittedly but some people might think you've ignored the crucial goals he's scored just for dramatic effect!

He came good towards the end of the L2 season which is fair-let’s not forget some of the atrocious misses during 2/3rds of that season aswell.
It’s another level higher now too, I hope I’m wrong but can’t see it.

Tbf we were top division then. At this level he probably would've been good.

My opinion, Max eorks hard and has a place at this level, but might not be with us at this level in our system. I think he'd be a great foil for a Chaplin style player in a 4-4-2, but we play 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 and his styke doesn't work so well in that as not prolific enough.

Level is irrelevant. Chances can be just as frequent, the goals are the same size, the keepers aren’t much better.

Almost everyone on this thread has said he'll be alright as a plan B off the bench. It's no love in where his ability is concerned and no-one I've seen is saying let's not bother signing another striker as we have Max.
People like him though. Put his education first before football so came into the game late, moved over here on his own to try and make it in English football which meant in his first season he was just excited to have the chance to play league football. He trained as hard as anyone, got retrained into a new role by Robins, took English lessons in his spare time, devout christian too which will appeal to some and got better as the season went on, all the time while having time for the fans after games and on social media. Now that he's come back from a bad injury, looks in great shape and grabbed a couple of goals in pre-season, fans are speculating over how much of a role he has to play this year.

Personally I love that there's still a few romantic stories like this in football now that it is dominated by money and i don't think that should get under your skin as much as it seems to.

82-84 Bristol Rovers and Coventry 44 appearances 14 goals. Not a bad ratio considering Coventry were top flight and most his appearance for Cov werd off the bench. I have seen worse in a Cov shirt. He was plucked from non league by Bristol he didnt cost money. We have had worse Premier League potential Stars on loan who swaned about achieving fuck all here and elsewhere.

Really don’t understand a lot of the hate for him. Definently had a lot lot worse Strikers wise going into the season.

Ccfcisparks - I actually believe Max has a huge amount of support and goodwill. There are obviously a few weirdos who are blinded by hate and negativity on most subjects (Grendel the best case example) but he doesn't speak for all of us. As many have pointed out Max was a big big factor in the final third of the promotion season and an integral part of that team - his performance at County away was absolutely immense under the most intense pressure.

Alternatively Max was a big part of making space for McNulty.

You must be totally pissed pre-games/legally blind/ or most likely Grendel's secret twin. I always thought one was more than enough.

And he donated to MMJ's fund for season tickets

His recovery has been excellent. His attitude is excellent. Studying so he has a life after football at the expense of playing professional football has held him back but shows excellent balance and thoughtfulness. His improvement over the league 2 season was good and I think would have continued last year but for the injury.

He gets frustrated and I think he has a 22-23 year old in a 28 year old body. He won’t ever score 15-20 but 10-15 off the bench with the odd starting berth would aid the team enormously.

I am biased towards him as much as Grendel is against though of course.

We definitely need a nippy striker and a finisher to compete at the top of the table but max won’t ever let the team or club down

Yes I'm a Max fan too...I truly believe that if he stays fit he'll improve no end and become a confident prolific scorer, continuing to score vital goals at vital time....look forward to seeing him play...

It’s not hate or negativity (you sound like a right fucking millenial student by the way)
It’s cold hard facts, he’s scored 5 goals in 44 games, get your head round that for a minute will you, 5 goals in 44 games!!!
The vast majority of those games were in the old division 4, the lowest standard of professional football in England!
Since then he’s had a horrific injury, and he’s now going to be up against better defences in league 2.
Wtf makes you people think he’s suddenly going to come back from injury and be the new Alan fucking Shearer?
He may well be a trier, he may be a very nice man, he may well blow fucking kisses to the crowd, and carry your nan’s god damn shopping!
..... but 5 goals in 44 games ...... REALLY!!!

You're overlooking one thing, Max came from non league and I.proved hugely over the season and there could potentially more to come.

Of course there may not and he may have peaked in which case he probably isn't good enough for this league but it hasn't really been proven conclusively either way.
