Meeting people at games? (8 Viewers)

I've been a Cov fan for my whole life (22), yet never actually have had anyone to go with or spoke to people at games.

Most probably because of social anxiety but I'd like to change that and meet some of our fan base!

What would be the best way to do so? Anyone on the forums pally?

I used to go to the football with my great aunt and uncle as a child... most of my family are relatively indifferent and most of my friends are Derby fans (where I grew up). As my great aunt and uncle are no longer with us I now go alone... be more than happy to meet for a chat at the game / sit with you. Be nice to have some company, the guy I sat next to last year wasn't the greatest conversationalist!

I went with my mate and his dad, they stopped going after relegation to L1. Saddening really because those two got me to go to the games because I couldn’t go alone as a kid.

Since I’ve come back from uni, I’ve started to take my little brother!

You do notice the same people go to all the games so I’d recommend getting involved and talking about the game or players and so on!

I used to be incredibly shy, very much so. I would be more than happy to talk to you at any game.....umm....sorry.....talk AT you.

I went to games by myself for many years.

A good way of meeting people is going to Supporters Club meetings. Or this season travel regularly on one of the buses to St Andrews. If you are a season ticket holder sitting in the same seat can be a way of getting to know other season ticket holders around you.
Good luck

Since the days of the PL most of the people I used to go with stopped going completely and the others go very rarely.

I moved away from the Midlands as well so ended up going to a lot of away games down south by myself. In a way I actually enjoyed it more as it gives you the chance to watch (and remember) the football properly.

You’d be surprised how many people go alone and how many more in general are happy to strike up conversations.

Having had a season ticket next to my mate for years at The Ricoh, who can't get one this season and can only do a few, I was curious (but not anxious) about who would have the misfortune to sit next to me at the Trillion. Head down, as I navigated my way between legs and bags to my seat, I was welcomed with 'alright Martin' (yeah, I know it's different to my user name - football mates call me Harry, but was christened Martin, long story ) In the seat next to me was an old friend who now lives near Nottingham. Great bloke and it made my day, knowing that we've coincidentally bought season tickets next to each other. He'll be sick of my hollering a few games into the season (and I'll make sure he doesn't scoff al of the humbugs, Otis!)

Good thread. I'm what's known as a extrovert so I'll yak away to any bugger, but I can understand someone who finds it hard to mix. Maybe a sticky thread called "Match Company" or similar would work? Private messages to people to meet up for each game. I have a feeling that's why a lot of people don't attend matches, simply because they find it hard to mix?

Found it really friendly yesterday TBF and I’m pretty socially anxious. Just me and my daughter, and a few people chatted to us out the blue both in the stands and the queue at half time. Definitely more of a half away game atmosphere.

I’ll likely be going alone when my kid can’t go so would watch any such thread with interest.

What about a carpooling thread as well?

My worry with forum software is it relies on people being proactive, we could do with something that let’s people easily set availability and others search.

Just making people aware of travel options, who sits where, pubs and stuff would help a fair few I’d imagine.

Good stuff, Shmmeee.

I was going to do the video blog thing yesterday in the hope I might meet a few people and form some new friendships etc.

A thread like that sounds like a really cool idea to be fair.

It would be interesting to see how much activity it harnessed and if it really helped people out in the same boat as moi.

It is also a faceless post though. We don't know him from Adam.

That could be because he is shy though of course.

Yeah Neil of the Trust would be demanding a scanned passport photo beforehand

Maybe not call it a singles thread though, eh.

I don't particularly want to date anybody on here.
I thought that we got on well with each other when we chatted at the Ricoh, Otis. Are you rejecting me now?:emoji_frowning2:
