So MR offloads Chaplin who had some potential but was unproven in L1 for nearly a Mill for a striker who’s proven, bagged 18 goals overall in our league last year. the guy is smooth as fuck!!

Different style of signing from our more recent transfer policy, but in this situation it isn’t a bad thing.

While proven 20 goals a year strikers are hard to find, we’ve come very close with this one. The fee initially seemed high to me, based on his age and therefore limited potential, but based not when based on his scoring history.

I also like the fact his career trajectory is on the rise, as opposed to a failing Premier/Championship player dropping down the divisions. His career history also implies he’s motivated to succeed.

Good signing and I’m looking forward to seeing him play. If we sign Bright or another exciting player in a similar mould, we have to expect to be challenging for autos.

It just goes to show how ridiculous the overdrive of negativity was last week.

The way I look at the fee is - John Marquis scored 23 last year? He cost 2 million - 750k. Is probably the going rate for a goalscorer at this level

And to be fair, he's 28 isn't he...he's pretty much at his peak so if we get 2-3 good years out of him, happy days.

Great signing on paper, but so were Eastwood, Chaplin, countless others...let's see if he delivers the goods. Fingers crossed!

Just looking at the types of goals he scores following a quick you tube search I think he'll compliment our playing style well. Granted a few of the goals he was scoring in league 2 were hopeful balls in behind where he turned an average ball into a good one, however there also other examples of him making double movements to out manoeuvre defenders rather than just rely on being in the box and hoping something drops.

Optimistic about this one!

Clearly this is a “going for it” striker. Not one for the years to come, he’s one for now. Exciting times !
Be nice if we could go into next season already with good striker options for a change, add onto what we already have instead of chasing one again

He is more proven at this level than both McNulty and Eisa , and while I think both of those two will do very well this year, I'm impressed that we have beaten off competition from other teams to sign him up.

If you put him, Allen and Kastameer into that 18 from last Saturday suddenly it is looking a whole lot stronger and with hopefully another 2 loans to come.

*14 in league (m8).

Yep. I know it’s 14. I put overall but I also put ‘in our league’ which is a typo. (m8)

Even so, 14 or 18 it’s decent business
It is decent business for a 14 league goal striker m8.

Well according to Wikipedia he’s scored 250 goals in 200 appearances for us, so hopefully that’s been put there by Marty McFly on a quick trip back in his DeLorean from May 2024, just after we pip Salford to the Premier League title.

Don't think he's been involved much in pre-season as he's been trying to get a move away. Just from what I've heard, not looked into it.
