I think Kastaneer will give us something different but I am not sure he will have the workrate of Hiwula on the left so Mason might be left a bit more exposed.

Allen coming back will be a massive bonus, in the friendlies he stood out for being everywhere and making runs into the box.

I am not sure about Godden, I don't know how well he will do in our system because until Biamou went more central he looked very isolated.

Not sure I agree with your judgement on Hiwula's workrate. I think that is a weakness & he noticeably disappears for long periods in games. I think of the current team Shipley & Kelly cover far more for Mason than Hiwula does.

I do share your worries about Godden being isolated though, given that apparently at Peterbrough he usually played up front with a partner. I did like his movement off the ball though, which was a marked difference to Bakayoko who is more static.

Forgive me if it’s already been asked and answered on the thread already (can’t be arsed to scroll through) but when is Allen due back from injury? Reading in the CT he has a ‘deep muscle tear’ that’s surely not a quick fix. Hopefully a speedy return to keep shippers and Zain on there toes as they have the luxury of being the only available CM atm

There was talk he's due back this weekend. Fingers crossed.

Does anyone else on here remember in the 70s under Gordon Milne when we played 4-2-4 - christ that was so exciting!
Yes it was a fantastic season of attacking football, my favourite in 52 years of watching City. Every time we played that year we just attacked from the start. With the way that the full backs, Graham Oakey and Bobby MacDonald, played the formation was virtually 244. Wonderful stuff with Hutch and Fergie and Wallace.

Not sure the thinking behind the Kastanner signing another player who we’ve signed & don’t seem keen to use,

Another signing not made by robins maybe ?

Basically Robins will say I need x type of player to the recruitment team (Chris Badlan being the main man). The recruitment team will identify a player that ticks the box of x and report back to the manager. In the case of Kastaneer I think Badlan had prior knowledge of the player from previous scouting trips. Robins and the analysts etc will analyse footage of the player and if he ticks the boxes they'll try and do the deal.

It's not like players are signed without Robins having a say.

Hasn’t worked great then needs tweaking if were coming up with the likes of Baka & Kastanner who seem to be below the level required

Baka was a product of the Widdrington recruitment though. There is a gamble involved in all of our signings wouldn't you say? We can't go out and buy the finished article and while that is the case you have to accept that every one that comes through the door might not be a McNulty.

Oh yeah of course there will be gambles we seem to get them wrong a lot though, didn’t Bristol rovers want Baka but robins refused ?

I thought we tried the off load him to an overseas club. They wanted Clarke Harris as they realised he could actually score goals if utilised correctly

CSKA Sofia came in for Baka last season. At the time they had a coach who'd grown up in the UK
I believe Baka didn't fancy going so nothing came of it
The coach has left CSK now

I had a look at Kastaneer’s playing record before us and he’s completed 90 minutes ten times since the 2015/16 season which suggests we’ll be lucky to get 2 or 3 90 minutes out of him all season. Currently he doesn’t even look fit enough for 20 minutes

Another signing not properly looked into same as Baka

I can't work out what is going on with kast. Pre season he started every game and you could see the intention was to play jobello and kast both at the same time. He then got injured for about 3-4 weeks which was shorter than the initial prognosis. Came back, scored a worlidie then got sent off and since then hardly featured. But what I can't work out is now. Attacking option wise we have baka, max and o hare fit and that's it but kast isn't even getting a 10 min cameo anymore. It's almost as if we've actually written him off already

Mustn't be doing it in training otherwise he would surely be involved

His performance against Rotherham was so haphazard it was ridiculous. He beat a few players and actually showed what he could do in tiny glimpses but also spent the entire game wandering in a free role like he was Messi leaving the right hand side completely open and isolated Dabo. Knowing how rigid Robins can be I don’t think it would have gone down well. It was the worst positional performance from a winger I’ve ever seen. I imagine Robins doesn’t trust him for this reason.

Yeah true that. Was there myself and was trying to see where he was playing, he was all over the place.

Then why was he signed ? Surely he was scouted properly ? Robins surely knew what he was getting with Kastanner

I suspect most of his teammates feel the same way
