Homophobic chanting (3 Viewers)

Is it also wrong to call Leicester fans inter-bred
And to refer to liverpool fans as coming from slums?
We can all agree that racism is well out of order, but where does banter start to cross the line?
It appears everyone in queuing up to take offence these days and to point the finger of mock outrage at anyone they can.
When did we all suddenly develop such a thin skin?

And no doubt others would have said the same about racist chanting 25 years ago.

I'm not sure saying somebody looks gay in pink is an irrational fear of homosexuals or even showing dislike to homosexuals at all.
My gay mate has told me I look gay in certain things I've worn.. Whoopi fucking doooo

So no... You fuck off you professionally offended derp

The point is that Gayboy is used as a derogatory term as an insult to someone.

It’s no different to using a nationality, skin colour etc as a derogatory term. Just because you think someone wasn’t offended doesn’t mean that no one was.

It has no place in modern society, hence why the football authorities now treat it on par with racism.

I'm sure they do.. I've seen loads of people banned for saying whose the gayboy in the pink, loads of media attention and news outlets cover this week in week out... Sigh

Saying somebody looks gay in pink is not nor will it ever be on par with racism

Like I said, nobody actually cares, just the professionally offended.... As per.

No more offensive than calling Steve Evans a fat bastard or the Swansea fans in their thousands calling the English bastards or the English calling the Welsh sheep shaggers

...and then some wonder why there are still no openly gay footballers. It actually is on par with racism with regards to the laws of the game and wider society.

We are not talking about homophobia here, we are talking about somebody being told they look gay in pink, which isn't homophobic
Mind you it's hardly suprising as we live in a generation where people call everybody who they disagree with a fascist

It's just nonsense.

Yes gay being used as a derogatory term in that case and as an insult, therefore it’s classed as homophobia. Homophobia is more than just a fear of homosexuals as you alluded to earlier.

Tbf, I also thought he looked quite happy, light hearted and care free in that pink top.

All jokes aside, theres no place for sexism, racism, homophobia, or any other kind of discrimination in our world, let alone in football. We're all human.

Whether or not it definitely caused someone offence or not is irrelevant, the fact is that theres potential to offend

I don't entirely disagree, I think context is important, and we are slowly edging towards a very authoritarian life..
As hard as this is for some people to accept, we don't all think the same. We won't all think the same and the robotic mind so many seem to want will never happen

But nobody will ever convince me that saying somebody looks gay in pink, is on par with flat out racism... Nobody

Like when I was out with 2 lesbian friends and I'm wearing a pink t shirt, they said fucking hell mate you look a bit gay... We clearly see this as a fucking joke, and nobody was hurt...

I’d say we are heading towards a more authoritarian society but not being able to shout gayboy insults at a football match as being a sign of it is ridiculous. Does that then make it okay for others to indulge in chanting using someone’s ethnicity in a derogatory way?

Or calling people fat bastard or slap head etc etc. Where do we draw the line ?
Perhaps we should all just stop saying anything and watch the game

In fairness, nobody bats an eyelid when we chant "yam yam yam yam" at the brummies, or when Cardiff get called "sheep shaggers", or when Sheffield United were called "Dirty northern bastards".

In terms of comparison, both the "sheep shaggers" and pink being gay are based upon historical, practically archaic stereotypes, in this context intended as banter. You wouldn't walk upto a guy in the street wearing a pink top and shout "you're a gayboy" in his face. It's all about context. I can see both sides

Mind you my not so straight mate insists when we get to a door saying “out the way gays first” so he should probably knock it on the head

Sorry if I've come a cross with a bit of a differing opinion, I think sometimes in life, people just need to lighten up... Not everything is as serious as you'd like to believe...
Nobody was hurt by the suggestion you look a bit gay in pink, fuck me.

Anyways ban it for all I care. Add it to the list of things we can't say or do lol

The authorities draw the line with hate crimes and have prosecuted people for these types of chants inside stadiums.

Welcome to 2019.

Some people probably consider a bit of racism as a bit of light hearted fun, it’s not about being serious or not serious.

And is already has been banned ;)

I’d say, the responses on here suggest that some people do care about and are offended by the ‘gayboy’ chanting.

Yes, in total silence for fear that some thin skinned lightweight might take offence at absolutely anything.
In fact the future of supporting may well be done watching on line, in a room on your own well away from from other human beings.

I'd say let's employ some creativity that could easily catch on quickly up & down the land.

Ideas for an unaggressive song that can be aimed by the rest of fans to drown out these morons as everyone points & sings the put-down.

Something like..."You're the shit, you're the shit, you're the shit of Coventry...YOU'RE the shit of Coventry".

Embarrass them back into line!

Would you shout "who's the heteroboy in the blue?" No, because there's no perceived insult to take from that. Saying someone looks gay in pink is meant as an insult, even if it is meant in a light-hearted manner, with the underlying suggestion that being gay is something to be mocked.

We're going to go to more towards getting rid of fat/bals chants that making shit like this acceptable again.

You say no-one was offended, but the fact this thread exists shows people are.
