Spoke to him outside the ground yesterday.
He said that the move to Birmingham had gone as well as it could have, although nobody wants to be there.
He is still talking to Wasps albeit not specifically about a return (couldn’t quite get this one as if not about a return then what else would they talk about ?)
I quizzed him on income, we make more from F&B at St Andrews, however obviously less in total due to the drop in attendances.
Reckons there would be 13-14k if we were at the Ricoh, with the start we have made.
Was non commital when asked how the loss of income will affect the playing budget next year.
Reconfirmed that Wasps wanted the club to sign something which would have threatened our very existence.
Accepts SISU need to make a statement on what the next steps are.
The release of council emails etc over the summer was as a result of him putting pressure in SISU to be more transparent.

Overall came across very well, it’s clear he wants the club to do well.

Stuart Cain is the guy at wasps but he’s been promoted I believe and a guy from Gloucester rugby marketing/stadium management team has joined wasps.

Doesn’t always strike me as someone I would look at and think ‘i reckon he could run our football club well’ but every time he speaks, engages with fans, or seems to approach certain situations via any outlet (media, fan engagement etc) he comes out very well!

I’m hopeful he can build a good relationship with the new Ricoh fella (think I read Nick Eastwood is now Wasps vice chairman and not over the Ricoh!)

Think Eastwood has been deputy chairman for some time sw, he is also group chief executive, a director and company secretary.

Cain is chief executive for the stadium and the new guy CEO for the wasps rugby side.

Think they have split the roles so that each concentrate on particular aspects ie stadium, rugby, and strategy.

the new man from Gloucester is clearly been bought in to beef up the sales and corporate side of things it seems he did a very good job at Gloucester in this area, he is apparently from Birmingham area and a Villa fan. another point the pictures of pitch at ricoh taken recently certainly dont point to an imminent return

Wasps are in a pickle yes. Their biggest problem however is not ccfc not being there but the fact that the EC investigation makes any refinancing more difficult. People need to remember that in the same way that ccfc have rejigged their finances so have wasps. Look at some of the announcements... redundancies, no move on training ground, high profile players left and it paints a picture of problems. The season starting much later doesn't help either. Plus of course no ccfc income.

However take that further and what is the result... costs are lower, money is saved. At a time when they benefit from the CVC share deal, improved tv money and a 2m cash injection from Delaware under their supply contract, new tenant agreements and new major sponsors. Then of course they may not fail this season on the pitch... yes they lost 10 players or so but they have been replaced (not unlike many football clubs). No one knows how they will fare..... depends if they gel or not.... last season they didn't, had many injuries and they had too many expensive stars under performing

I would not expect the wasps balance sheet to have worsened to 30 June 2019 but we should know more come late October but to be honest it's no more than educated guess There is the share sale to include which creates a 12m realised profit so I dont think any trading losses will have fully used that up.

My understanding is that the share sale income must be used on infrastructure...... well that plus any grant income should take care of the new training ground you would think.

Can they cover operating costs of the business going forward though.... any bodies guess same as it is for ccfc..... but looks to me like they are at least making efforts to do so. The CEO said they have a five year plan.... you would think they have to plan without ccfc.

OSB58 - what is your take on how some of wasps partners at the Ricoh, The casino, Delaware etc will have reacted to City not being there?
I know they have signed new contracts but surely the foot fall being reduced by around 250,000 a year must have affected them?

Depends if wasps can convince them that other things will to any degree replace footfall.

The casino core business is not football fan income. Made a post a week or two ago giving my take on potential casino loss

Delaware will be able to control their margins better etc.

Vodafone get their 5g hub and all the opportunity that brings

Bottom line is they all knew the risk they all knew of the problems between wasps and ccfc and yet they all jumped in and signed up...... so rather than saying they will all be upset perhaps we should all ask why given the risks etc they still signed up on lengthy agreements?

Just a few comments on what he said.

A month or so ago he was saying that finances had been planned around season tickets of 2500 because of the f&b income being so much better. Now we might be struggling by January?

Is he still talking with any purpose or because it keeps the NDA agreement on the discussions going

So f&b is a percentage of the revenue it would seem ie sales less costs split between ccfc and ccfc with ccfc getting a bigger percentage than at the ricoh. It cannot be big numbers surely?

Given the start and last seasons average crowds then 13k isnt much of a increase in an irrelevant hypothetical figure. We are not at the ricoh and it shows the loss of income ccfc has.... which must feed in to what they can spend. Without player sales the playing budget is in crisis.

Would like the parties to actually detail what it was exactly to be signed. Never going to happen of course. So far there has been much talk and very little detail. Struggling to see what it was that threatened our existence.... seems strange that wasps want ccfc there but want to put them out of business. So I try to keep an open mind on that without there being any detail so far.

Agree sisu do need to say what happens next ..... I suspect they cant until EC issue resolved

Whilst I think the fans need to know what was going on in the past...... that all parties have been less than transparent... one of the feelings i was left with from the sisu and club PR at the time was that part of the purpose was to burn bridges ...

One interesting point is CVC also own Pro14, so may look to merg this with the Prem shedding South African and Italian teams.

Chances are there would only be slots for the top four or five English teams. The Prem would still be the first tier for English rugby.
