Still think he is a great impact sub for the time being
Agree, plus i don't think he's up to full match fitness yet. Definitely a great impact sub against tired opponents. Would like to see him in the side eventually though!

If he starts O'Hare and he tires by half time, wont be long before the fans turn. Hes so far an amazing impact player whilst gaining match fitness. And hes still only a kid. Let's not rush him.

Hope we somehow wrangle a deal to keep him long term. Potentially an absolute gem of a player.

Villa scum.

But still a gem of a player, especially while hes wearing our badge

I think you've totally missed my point.
The general consensus on this thread is that Westbrooke hasn’t been “so poor”, quite the opposite really. Shipley may not be our “best option” because we have better players that are injured (Kelly, probably Allen, O’Hare may not be fully fit), but that doesn’t mean the majority of people think he’s been bad. It was always going to take time for Jobello to settle, and he is improving. Hiwula has been “in and out” of games since he’s signed for us, but he scored a good number of goals last season and if he can replicate that most fans would be happy.
Next time don’t imply that fans are making unreasonably negative judgements on players when those judgements are either reasonable (and not totally bad), or non existent among the majority.

Nice post - without revealing too much, you're not from Walsgrave are you?

There's a reason O'Hare isn't starting. Only Robins knows what that is.
Maybe he can't last 90 minutes.
And it's easy to look good when you come on mid-way through the second half when everyone else is tired.
Can he produce that for 90 minutes? We will see ... eventually.

Not convinced it’s easy to look good, but agree that he can’t last 90 mins.

We have a player that looks class, contracted to a PL team, is a fans fave, and by the battering he takes obviously scares the shit out of the opposition. If he can't last 90 minutes, got to bring him on for as much as his fitness allows. We've got him for a season, lets use him to his full potential.

65/70 minutes in and you see him come on you must think fucking hell.

Then again I bet not a lot of player know about him, can’t believe we are moaning about a few of our players like we are doing shit, granted only early doors but some games we have been awful and we are still unbeaten.

Not getting carried away with the league position (which is hard) until late November

The first game we lose, he’ll start the one after. You can see he is a great player but while we’re winning at home and drawing away... robins won’t change it, unless forced. (Cue him starting tomorrow now)

You mean like us at home later in the season? But I do see your point and we missed out chance to take 3 relatively easy points with help from the officials.

I don't think any of us would be able to cope had we beaten them by 5 goals like everybody else and were now sitting 3 points clear with a goal difference of +10.

i like to think we would have won 3 nil but then played with less intensity vs pompey and lost and then never had the belief to get to top of table

bolton result was good in long run! lol

Shipley for me is the one id leave out. He still doesn't offer a huge amount for me. Westbrooke has a better goalscoring threat and creates more.

The two compliment each other though - Shipley being the more energetic of the two and Westbrooke the more creative. So which of the two you'd drop would depend on which of those two you think O'Hare most plays like. For me that would be Westbrooke.

At the moment the set-up is working nicely and O'Hare having the chance to have an impact against tiring legs is working. Would you prefer to be starting with O'Hare and if he runs out of steam bringing Shipley or Westbrooke on as an impact sub? I wouldn't.

The only reason I think MR might change tomorrow is if the conditioning team think either Shipley or Westbrooke need a rest.

Dreamer - that's a good post and absolutely hear what you are saying.
My only counter to that is that O'Hare instantly makes teams defend deeper against us and as such creates space for others. It means we play higher up the pitch. He also seems to combine very well with Godden (who is often isolated when he's not on the pitch) and is ideally suited to running at defenders and playing in our quick wide men. I think he's different class and if fully fit would be the first name on my team sheet.
The point you make on having an impact sub is well made; but we do have maverick Kastaneer to come on and create havoc for the last 20! I'm also looking forward to seeing Max and Godden combine at one point - again I think Max can create space for Godden - and I don't want to see Godden battle on his own against two central defenders every game for 90 minutes.

If MR did bring O'Hare in from the start I wouldn't be complaining as he's clearly a talented lad. I just won't be complaining if he doesn't either. I think at some point he will inevitably be in the starting line-up but it's not imperative right now.

Kastaneer can create havoc but possibly for us almost as much as them! He's pretty maverick and while it's nice to see him trying so hard to impress and have an impact part of you just wants him to calm down a bit. It certainly interesting with him on the pitch wondering what you're going to get.

Same with Max - while it would be nice to never have to contemplate needing to see him play with Max we will inevitably at some point need to get back into a game and I would hope in those instances MR would seriously consider seeing how they pair up. He is however very reluctant to change shape during a match.

Who says he can’t last 90 minutes, he is sub because he can’t dislodge Westbrook and Shipley and MR said he took a bit of a knock v Walsall. I think he will stay sub v Wimbledon then there’s an eleven day break, let’s see what happens after that.

Totally on the same page Dreamer to be honest.

Robins is an interesting character. Absolutely ruthless in a quiet way in changing personnel and improving the team year after year. Clearly doesn't have favourites (unlike Strachan as an example!) and if his own signings are not up to the mark they are quickly moved on (Ogogo etc.).

But if there's one minor criticism of Robins it's the reluctance to change the game plan when it isn't working in games as you point out. Best case example this season was Oxford - thousands of crosses pinged in from the left and we needed to change formation to deal with that - switching a 4-4-2 or even 3-5-2 with the pull backs pushed up. It didn't happen and we predictably conceded from one of those thousands of crosses.

I really hate to say this (as I hate the tw@t) but Evans showed this season that you can change a formation to change the flow of the game - as he did at half time against us at St. Andrews. Don't get me wrong I think Robins is fantastic and would never want Evans anywhere near our club but I think it's something Robins could improve on.

I think we might eventually settle on a 4231 with him in the 10. Although when he came a Villa supporting colleague had him as an attacking CM I can definitely see him in that advanced role. Obviously no need to change the 433 while we're doing so well but we should be able to improvise and adapt.
