The three promoted teams all very active in the transfer market in the summer

Barnsley - 3rd from the bottom -
Luton - 4th from Bottom
Charlton - 7th From top
How do you think Cov would have fared

Some fancied teams in the bottom half, very early days yet but it’s a very tough and strange division, personally I reckon we would be knocking around where Luton are and would need better players to do that.

The ridiculous parachute payments cause a real divide in finance, we would be in the bottom six with this side

We've got maybe 5 or 6 players who I think would be Championship level and another 2 or 3 who could do a job.

We'd need a pretty big overhaul imo but we've seen that Robins isn't afraid to sign 10 or so players in a summer.

I fear it would be like most seasons I recall since the old 1st division and prem - hanging on and the usual battle against relegation. Down of course to lack of funding and the necessity to sell our young talent to balance the books.

I think we need to get in there asap and hold one somehow. Was talk on the radio the champ clubs not happy about TV money distribution and forming a PL2 style break away. The same daft arguement that lead to the PL and the rest of the leagues picking up the crumbs. I can't see why they can't compete like us and everyone else, instead of having a closed shop.

Just reading that Palace are on course to make a 40 million loss this year.

Given the riches of the PL.gravy train how do you lose 40 million?
This nonsense surely isn't sustainable?
And how are they not somehow in breach of the so called financial fair play rules?

There’s a gulf between here and there. The biggest jump out of all 4 leagues imo. Don’t think our team would compete.
I watch the championship on TV and must say that some of the sides are no better than League 1 sides

...a small group are similar to the top of league !, but most are a lot better (just look at Ipswich last season and this)

Robins main task is to get us into the Championship and, I hope, he's assembled a squad that gives us a reasonable chance of doing just that. He will then have to build a squad that will prosper in the Championship and, judging on past experiences, will not shy off making the necessary improvements. He signed 16 players in the summer, most of whom have already featured for the first team (and got rid of the same number of players). So it's fruitless to guess how well today's squad would do in the Championship.

I believe the average wages in the championship are hovering around the 18-20 million mark.
Wed need fans to turn up to matches for starters to raise more income... and we'd also need a miracle to stay up as I couldn't see our wage bill being put up by millions and millions

Edit : the 10th highest wage bill last season was 35 million, and that was reading

Wed be punching to not finish bottom under the current financial climate at the club

Really?! Didn’t they sell that lad to Man Utd for £50mil? Crazy.

If we were to go up I wonder if our academy players would continue to get a chance of first team football.

Dont think the Wan Bissaka money is included in that so that will sort that out but relying on selling a full back for 50 million to keep you in the black when you've had the money they've had is crazy.

Any club making losses in the modern day Premier league needs to re evaluate their finances

I know Burton were relegated, but they must have had a 'bugger all' budget. I'd sooner use any promotion to 'safeguard' our future. If we could get a big increase in attendance, great. TV revenue must be a fair bit higher, too?

Yeah, I’d be happy to yo-yo for a few years rather than risk our financial future. Unless sisu decide ‘operation prem’ is back on!

2 seasons ago championship clubs received 6.8 million total as part of TV and a payment from the FA as a gift so to say to try and bridge the gap between them and the championship

Let's say 8 million now being generous

They also had a potential £40m - £60m for Zaha to fall back on (no I don’t think he’s worth that). So you could argue they could speculate and spend to go temporarily into the red. Trouble is, I cannot for the life of me see where they have really invested that huge tv money!?!?

The big difference is we had a lot of players out of contract or return to their parent club. The players we have signed as replacements have been given 2 and in a lot of cases 3 year contracts. If we do go up the majority of the squad will already be contracted for next year. Unless we sell players, in which case need a buyer, the squad will look pretty similar in my opinion.

If we go up I’d like the club to sort out the stadium situation even if it sends us right back down to league 1.

Think all parties would have no choice but to find a deal to have us at the Ricoh in that case. I don’t think there’d be a significant rise of numbers go to SA, I honestly don’t. And I don’t think the council or Wasps could refuse the lucrative possibilities of Championship football.

And then there is that other possibility of wasps also playing in a division called the championship :).

IF we were carry on in this vein and go up this season, I'm sure there would be plenty of L1 clubs interested in taking a few L1 players off of our hands.

Our squad is quiet young, most under 25 and I think it will get better. If we got promotion the pressure will be on to make perhaps a couple of major signings to supplement this squad, not easy but of course the biggest issue is the ground situation which is a real burden round our necks, apart from the obvious there’s no telling if Birmingham will want us at St A if we are in the same division and then there’s wages, championship players will want championship wages, that could double our wage bill atleast.
