A real bad injury it seems.
Son sent off and in tears
Did he smash off his knee?wasn't that bad a challenge by the look of it. Horrendous injury.
Did he smash off his knee?
Didn't look like a red card
Did he smash his face then?
Yeah I've seen it on social media and it was his landing on the grass. His foot planted and he carried on going.Definitely Aurier that clattered him after although I reckon he'd already twisted his foot in the turf.
Confusing that he was going to book him but changed to red? I didnt think refs were meant to base decisions on injuries?
it's hard to tell without a proper replay but only right that they're not showing it.
This shows his landing.
Wonder what will happen if spurs lose this and the red gets overturned.
Didn't the ref check var for it?
Don’t think so he seemed to see the injury and change the card to red.

Exactly.Sure that is totally against the rules as far as ref conduct goes? A bad injury doesnt equal a bad foul.

he was poor all game to be honest.
They have just said var didn't overturn the red because they saw that because of the outcome son was endangering the player. The tackle by Son wasn't that bad, really. He just happened to fall into Aurier who was coming in to make a tackle. It was an absolute horror of an injury, but I can't believe that was a red. Especially given Atkinson had the yellow card out initially. A bad weekend for him, given his role in the VAR farce in the Liverpool game yesterday.

They are making it up as they go along
In which case every tackle could be a red even if there's no contact. That'll almost certainly be their cop out as to why they won't rescind it as well.
They said the same thing on Sky. Any and every and tackle could endanger a player's safety. In which case every tackle could be a red even if there's no contact.
It's madness.
It should have already happened. Was clear to everyone a week or two into the season it was a complete mess but the PL and officials are in total denial of any problems. There needs to be a extraordinary meeting to sort VAR out in my opinion.
And the match officials board or whatever they are called are saying it was right to change it to a red because he got badly injured! Making it up as the go along rather than admitting a mistake.Match of the day have given the rule saying that red was given as son had endangered gomes. Insane totally insane
It’s worse that Boris johnson claiming to invest in public serviceAnd the match officials board or whatever they are called are saying it was right to change it to a red because he got badly injured! Making it up as the go along rather than admitting a mistake.
Completely bizarreWhat happens if a player goes up for a header and lands funny? Is it a red for the other player?
