OK, I waded in based on one post without reading the thread.

I don't buy into the lazy 'racist PM' tropes though.

I didn't say the man was racist-though I can't rule it out entirely. I said he has made racist comments. How has the response to his comments about Muslims compared to 0.1% of the Labour Party facing anti-Semitism complaints? Bashing Muslims is still fair game in this country.

I'm guessing the reference is to the letterbox comment he made. Read the whole piece though and it does shed a slightly different light on it given that he was defending the right of Muslim women to wear the hijab in response to Denmark's decision to ban it. I'm not sure why he uses such silly language though, it's foolish and clumsy, and detracted from what was probably a reasonable point.

We have to be careful though that legitimate criticism of Islam, whether that be in relation to the oppression of women, FGM, the murder of homosexuals etc. is not shut down. It's why I dislike the word 'islamaphobia'. The word has no meaning. Criticism of Islam should not be confused with racism against Muslims.

I was in A&E with my mum in November. It was ridiculously busy. She is 89 and fell and hit her head on the front door and smashed the glass.

She sat a hospital bed in a corridor for 6 hours until she was seen by a doctor.

I counted the beds and there were 14 more beds in the corridor behind her. I couldn't see around the corner .

This was on a Friday morning around 10.30. I commented on the situation and how busy it was to a nurse and she said it was like that every day.

Yep 2 years ago at walsgrave when my dad was taken there in his last few hours he spent most of his time lined up in a corridor with 10 others. Staff were amazing amongst total chaos. After that experience I vowed never ever to vote Tory ever! They just don't care.

What happened has been confirmed by staff at the hospital. The child wasn't given a bed, true, but was in a chair in the treatment room. The parents placed the child on the floor to take the picture, also true. So the truth, as usual, is somewhere in between the hysterical takes from both sides.

It was a non critical case and the child was discharged with flu. It's a non-story.

there are stories like this every day all over social media posted by doctors, (Dr. Dominic Pimenta is particularly good). I have listened to several radio interviews with doctors who paint a similarly bleak picture.
The NHS is in crisis, whether this Leeds story has been exaggerated or not.

I have read it, some time ago when it kicked off. ‘I defend your right to look like a letterbox and burglar’ is an odd way to pay a compliment and it led to a spike in abuse of that demographic. But sure, keep looking for excuses. If Corbyn had said it you’d be on it like Johnson on hot chips

Hmmm...easy to say though, ferret. Have you ever had a 4 year old? I am sure the family didn't think it was flu when they took him in and the hospital wouldn't have known it was flu at first either. Yup, it was proved to be flu in the end and not critical, but that sort of deflects from point doesn't it.

I know. It’s a disgrace. My old ma in law fell and broke her hip back in 2008, and was stuck in a bed in a corridor for 5 hours before being seen. Fooking tories. Oh wait, labour were in power, and had been since 1997...,

in the last 4 months, been a regular visitor to Walsgrave and rugby hospitals, and apart from a similar A&E experience, (and parking issues) I have to say the service has been excellent. Wife has been seen within minutes of her appointment times, as have I.
nurses docs etc all very good, and kind.

From my point of view, the service was better than it used to be. . Appreciate this is a very short survey (2 people), but at least I know this is true, and not some fake bollocks to get all heated about.

No it’s OK because a sick child was given a chair. Day one at nursing training and they tell you that a chair is far better than a bed when treating a sick child. Honest gov. In fact when I was ill as a child I remember saying to my mum that I don’t feel well so I’m going to bed and her telling me not to be stupid with that sick bed nonsense it’s a sick chair that I needed. I also remember asking for a bowl in case I was sick, again she chastised me. Be quite with your nonsensical talk of bowls she would say, here, take this thimble. Kid’s hey.

So, why is Robert Buckland, Conservative MP, on the TV now saying it is a concerning incident and why is he saying Boris Johnson has apologised and so too, Matt Hancock.

A lot of a concern and apology for a non-story isn't it?

I suspect that a great proportion of people rock up in A&E because they have no confidence in getting seen within a day or two by their GP, which desperately needs attention.
Both me and the missus have had some health problems this year and last, and have needed to go to A&E by ambulance. The A&E departments in Worcester and Gloucester are little more than ambulance parking areas due to the under-resourcing (or over-population) of the department. This is having a knock-on effect on the over-stretched ambulance services (if you have watched Ambulance on the BBC you'll know this) because about half their staff and vehicles are waiting for their patients to be booked in to A&E.
You'll also have seen on Ambulance the number of times an ambulance crew take the elderly or drunk or mentally ill to A&E because they have nowhere else to go or no-one to look after them until the GP opens, when they really are not emergencies. It is more about a lack of social care, in my view.

But when this story broke, I immediately thought of "Drop The Dead Donkey" and the way Stephen Tomkinson's character was always setting scenes up for greatest impact. I think this has been blown out of proportion - he was in a treatment room not a corridor.

You're missing the point Otis. It is the misrepresentation that is the problem.

Yes, I have 3 children, and I once had an horrendous experience with my first child, which was under a Labour government in fact (but I didn't blame Tony Blair personally).

The issue is this - what happened was that a poorly child went into hospital. There was no bed for that child, so he was sat in the treatment room. No doubt, he was uncomfortable and wanted to lie down, so his parents puts some coats on the floor and he lay on them. I am sure I would have done the same. But I would not have tried to make a political point out of it, because I am also grown up enough to understand that in no system will it ever be possible to put everyone who walks into A&E in a bed and that cases are prioritised.

So, why just not report it like this? Why, when I turn on the radio this morning is the headline '4 year old boy with pneumonia treated on hospital floor'. None of that is actually true, neither the diagnosis or the claim that he was 'treated' on the floor. Report the facts and let people make up their own mind. Then, Johnson was castigated for not looking at the picture when a journalist tried to stitch him up. When, the video that accompanied this, shows Boris both looking at the picture (belatedly yes) and then apologising.

It's the same with Corbyn. I don't like him, but I like to think I don't like him for the right reasons and not because of the smears.

Nobody listens anymore. Nobody takes time to listen to or understand Johnson or Corbyn and their world view and make an informed, reasonable judgement based on their ideas or their voting record or anything meaningful. It's just hysteria and it isn't healthy.

Because people like yourself are always pushing one side of the story and nit the other. Lies like this lad having to sleep on the floor get taken as gospel and the truth won't be known by all. Then brush off the damage done by Labour to the NHS and make out it didn't happen.

The problem is that neither side can be trusted.

But if we can ignore what happened to the NHS and everyone losing out on pensions after the last Labour government and just say it won't happen again......
