Agreed. How much longer do the same things have to keep happening? Though I would like to know what PVA considers an acceptable return from the next 10.

Wycomve also are a classic example of building a team that fits a system not random recruitment and then telling players to adapt to the managers way

Most teams who go up from this league do little more than just that. Robins is trying to get the Rugrats to master quantum mechanics

G - why don't you just list the next 10 games and tell us what combination of results is acceptable for you.

I’m talking ooints tally. We would be averaging just around a point a game then over 20 games.

Sounds like some people think this not winning away is all bad luck, when it’s just poor game management. Having 3 goals ruled out at Bolton is bad luck, still no away win towards end of December isn’t to do with luck...or strange referees.

Sure let’s have a look

Lincoln H

Wycombe A

Tranmere A

MK H

Donny A

Wycombe H

Fleetwood A

Bristol A

Bolton H

Pompey H

I would say 15 points would be a realistic figure based on 4 very winnable home games, with a few draws sprinkled in away. Insufficient to keep us in the play off chase but an acceptable return.

I think this is a valid discussion on the OP and we as supporters should take our star spangled glasses off and actually look at what is happening especially our last 10 games.
Robins has done a fantastic job since he arrived the 2nd time, we have had a fair amount of luck but ultimately he steered us into our first promotion for 50 years or so, in nearly all the time he has been here we have struggled to score goals a plenty, we had a massive amount of luck and good fortune with McNulty scoring 28 goals in our promotion season but barely anyone else has troubled the scoring charts with any regularity. JCH looked like he couldn't hit a barn door when he was here and now scoring regularly same with Chaplin, its not coincidence that all of a sudden they have become better players.
Has Robins took us as far as his management style is capable? Baka is a massive let down, as told by the Walsall fans before we signed him, Hiwula has something but rarely produces on a regular basis, for what reason who knows! Tactics? laziness? lack of ambition? pissed off here?
Max won nothing in the air yesterday, so what did we do keep hoofing the ball for him to lose it again, our passing was woeful at times, the pitch didn't help our style of play and the ref was as usual a fucking joke. They kicked and disrupted our passing game and we had no answer to it, we are going to get teams like this so we have to adapt move it quicker don't let them get near us.

Fucking hell, after Tuesday people were saying we were the best team in the league and after one loss we “warming the taxi” (both reactions are ridiculous). Try and have some balance and stop reacting like a toddler. I’m loving this season, we’re playing beautiful football, in the play-off mix and lost only 3 league games all season. What more do you expect !

Biamou is at best a third choice striker at this level. He may have a role in coming on as a sub to mix it up but he’s never going to have enough pace or ability to last 90 minutes but it’s so bad he’s the best we’ve actually got probably in that role

People are being balanced. Nobody is being hysterical. I think it's precisely because we can see that we are a good side that people are quite rightly asking questions. Some of the stats are startling and our form is poor right now. There is plenty of time to put this right, but you do feel this is a turning point in the season.

Of course but equally I’d swap with Liverpool. I’m talking about expectations not desires.

i was more talking about style of play

The only good football is winning football

You’ve lost me. Style of play is brilliant. And Robins has one of the best win percentages of any recent Coventry manager.

You made a comment about great football

Wycombe have a reputation for a direct and physical approach

They’ve won 12 games and scored more goals.

I think we are a boring predictable team

Ian Dowie had an overall win ratio of 40% and was at one point over 50%

By the end the last 15 games were at 15% and he was sacked when we were in the top half of the championship - Robins is at 20% in the last 10 games

Yes and the other problem from the stats appears we have a lot of shots but not many ‘dangerous’ ones. For having shots in the six yard box we rank 22nd overall.

Away from home it’s actually the worst in the league.

The quick counter attacks are great watching when they come off. But even when they do we fluff our lines in the box or before. When they don’t work it’s back to absorbing pressure.

I was out of order posting that, hence why it was deleted.

I apologise.

Theres no need to apologise it’s just a view

The thing is when you look at Presley he had to sell Wilson and Clarke and really had to look in the basement bin for the likes of Mquod.

When we sold mcnulty Robins did purchase hiwula, Bakayoko and Chaplin (already having paid £125,000 on Clarke Harris)

We then offload Clarke Harris for free and pay a hefty sum for Godden

None of this spend is getting any return

In relative terms the board are supporting him and I don’t think the pay back is great

If you can’t enjoy the football we’ve been playing this season then there is no hope of enjoyment for you ever.

This thread doesn’t get made at half time when we were 2 points off autos in the live table. It’s a long season, we lost a game, stop reacting like a toddler.

I don't enjoy football if it doesn't deliver a good outcome and for the last 15 games or so it hasn't

Winning football above no goals and few wins?

As I’ve said we can be 12th if teams win the games in hand. We are 19th over 10’games

Are trends not relevant?

A genuine question.

Would you rather us finish 8th or 9th playing this way or play how Wycombe play and get promoted to the Championship?

At the moment Wycombe’s style of play is producing more wins and goals than us - on average they have nearly 10% less possession of the ball every game

At some stage we've always struggled, and it's a lot easier to take if it's decent football than our traditional approach of poor football *and* losing.

“It was a great kick about but we lost!”

I’ve heard rugby fans say they enjoyed a game that they lost, it’s another reason I think they’re gits!

I think you're missing the point a bit. Winning and playing great football is the ultimate aim, but we'd all swap places with Wycombe right now wouldn't we? I doubt many of their fans are complaining about not being entertained. Winning is everything.

Yesterday was only my second away day of the season and both performances have been dire to watch.
We created very little yesterday and I don't think there was a City supporter who didn't know the equaliser was coming.

Only have to look at Boothroyd - he’s derided as Hoofroyd but nobody was complaining when we were top of the championship

I’m not ready to be on the Robins out train, but ultimately in a results business - we’re not getting results. It’s starting to be really frustrating

But Wycombe are an outlier. Always dangerous comparing one team at one point in time; it was Blackpool a few years ago - why couldn't we be like them as they were heading into the top flight? We don't use Bradford or Plymouth as comparisons.

There are obvious constant blind spots - who would join us as a striker just atm? but overall the way the team is managed is good. Add in the cultural issues (work for an organisation distracted / contracting / focused elsewhere and tell me it doesn't have an effect) and the job is especially good. Of course he's not perfect, but then that's why he's working at this level, too - and let's face it our best manager Sillett couldn't sign a striker to save his life either.

I think Robins wants us playing a brand of football that is played at a higher level (and also pleasing to the eye). However, for League 1 that may not be the right approach as some teams opt for a more direct and physical approach to counter that. I also agree that we've been outdone by the extremely poor standards of refereeing that we've got no control over. The Shrewsbury game ( and I guess you can throw in Sunderland, Oxford, Peterborough, Bolton, MK Dons, Tranmere, Accrington) have all been winnable games, but we have to:
1) Stand up to the physicality and roughhouse tactics of opponents and dole out some punishment of own own and learn to commit fouls in an inconspicuous manner without being caught (i.e. pulling shirts, kicking shins and whatever dirty tactics other teams employ). Let's face it - for the poor standards of refereeing in League 1, it's almost a must to be develop a mean streak if we want to come out of this league. Being nice and trying to complain to the refs is not going to work.
2) Make substitutions sooner in games when we see the tide starting to turn (instead of reacting after a goal has been conceded)
3) Not be afraid to play long ball/route 1 football or even unattractive football if it enhances our chances to win games. Just have to get down and dirty sometimes and grind out results.
4) Stop conceding late or last minute goals (Oxford, Peterborough, Sunderland, Tranmere etc).

I don't care if we have got the most possession out of all the teams in the division and play beautiful football. Just do what it takes to win games.
