According to Wikipedia, Sam has played 19 games for us in League One. The rest of his early days spent playing non league.

Why do you think he's worth 3 Million?
Reckon it'll be more like £500k rising to £2m after 20 PL appearances, with 5% sell-on share, & extra £1m if appears for England. Liverpool likely only want him as cover so we will not make much hay imo

More realistic definitely. He'd be 3rd choice left back at absolute best.

It'd be more than 5% sell on. We got 10% (I think) on Maddison and 15% on Wilson. Would think at least 10%.

Think 1m to 1.5m is probably a realistic up front fee. I'm not sure it's worth doing at 500k. If we get promoted and he plays well in the Championship, he becomes a 5m player. Got to balance it out a bit. Only worth doing if it allows us to reinforce the squad now.

We might have to, to fund the rest of the squad for the season, of course.

I don’t get this logic. So if Maddison is rumoured to be going for £80m someone like O’Hare is worth £16m?

We’d be lucky to get any more than what Bayliss went for, if that
No because it's obvious O'Hare is not going to be the level of player that Maddison is. Maddisons quality was obvious and we got a price based on the size of the club willing to take that plunge. If the big boys had come in for him then then we should have asked for more.

How did Southampton get all those fees for Walcott and Bale etc? Top clubs were after them as they knew too well the potential of the player.

If Liverpool are in for him then they must think he's potentially Champions League winner quality hence we want a fair whack for that type of player. With all the money at the top of the game we need to stop being shafted.

We received (reported) £500,000 for BAYLISS why would we get any more for McCallum

But you’ve said McCallum has a 1 in 5 chance of becoming a £50m full back but O’Hare has no chance? When O’Hare is one of a Premier League club’s best youngsters and has played some Championship games. And McCallum has played some L1 games and some fans remain unconvinced he’s our best left back.

Maybe they are interested but more than likely like most young players their agent has contacted a low level tabloid to publish a story linking him to a big club so he gains a bigger profile. The same happened with Bayliss and Maddison - they ended up at Preston and Norwich

EXCLUSIVE: Liverpool, Everton chasing £3m Coventry midfield star

It’s a senseless argument - Liverpool have signed Gomez and Shelby and would pay nowhere near that - same with Everton and Stones

As far as I can see the highest fee received for a L1 defender was £3.5m, this year when Matthew Clarke of Portsmouth went to Brighton after 121 games

Left back wise Rico Henry went for £1.6m

McCallum will play higher than Bayliss & O’Hare,I think Arsenal,Liverpool etc also agree as Bayliss went to the championship & looks like McCallum is about to go to premiership.

The same articles said Bayliss was going to Liverpool too

and of course there was the story of a certain player we signed who’d been lined up by Liverpool for £5 million

I'm not sure of your logic, Maddison was sold to a team in the Championship as was Callum Wilson.

Whereas George Thomas, Cian Harries, Bassala Sambou all moved to the Premier League.

It proves nothing about where they're headed. I'd suggest a Championship team with the more limited funding being willing to take a multi million pound punt on a young player says a lot more than a super rich prem club doing it.

@Limey so on what basis is he nearly worth 3 times of what any defender in L1 has gone for before?

A comparable player would be Mason Holgate who made 22 appearances at Barnsley in L1 (around the same as McCallum) and left for up to £2m.

None other than Liverpool want McCallum and not Holgate. They must think he's a better player.

Like in an ideal world they'd give us Salah and 20 Million but that isn't happening either.

Liverpool aren't desperate to sign an unproven, young left back from Coventry. Look at their recent signings of a similar age..nowhere near big bucks.

Not doubting Sams ability...he's quality and I wish him well but we won't get what some are quoting.
So we let them take a player was massive potential from us for a 500k fee just because that seems fair?
No way! Top prem clubs are doing this too often. The only way to stop them doing this buy and try approach is make them pay through the nose.

We need the money...that’s what our entire transfer and club policy is

Okay then, let’s believe for a minute it’s true (a similar site said the same about Bayliss)...you think we should hold out for £10m?

It's what Barry Fry etc would do and eventually settle for something in the middle. Let's call it a fair £6m if Liverpool want to take a gamble on the lad.

Who have they sold for £6m after a handful of games?

Thats' just not realistic though? On what basis is he worth £6 Million?

Dwight Gayle. 20 games. £6m to Palace

Dagenham sold him for half a million. Also the initial fee was £3.2 million which Dagenham had 20% of so net was £2 million and I think they were a championship club then?
