Will be good to have in the squad with his L1 knowledge and will be good to stick on late in games when we will need to do route 1 bombard the box to win or draw games...

The third tier's his natural level and his experience is something we are in serious need of. If we could hold onto Hermann in a coaching role, the 2 of them could be very useful indeed in bringing on the young core to the squad we'll inevitably be relying on.

Cody and Platt could be quiet deadly upfront next season, much like what happened at The Gills for Cody and Akinfenwa.

in all honesty, i hope we keep Platty.

If the wages would be spent else where we should let him go. Very poor goals per game ratio and now 35.

Platt is hugely underrated and unfairly criticised. He is not the best footballer in the world, however he is a real handful even at his age. He has a decent finish when he gets a chance and his work rate is admirable considering he is always carrying sone sort of knock. He shouldn't be starting, but he shouldn't be criticised when he does play because unlike fat pikey Eastwood or Roy O'shit he has an impact and loves ccfc. Him an cody will be a real force in league 1, but we do need a replacement in as he can't only play 50% games tops

It will be really good to have Platt next season, i am so looking forward to watching the balls hoofed up to him every week. If i have to watch any of that all year again i think i will top myself.

We should be building a team of youngsters and clear out the dead wood that got us here, Colchester fans couldn't wait to get rid of him and thought we were mugs signing him. Clive Platt for god sake he isnt going to get us out of this league.

I am not criticising him. His attitude and approach are commendable but we have to be selective and sensible. He will not be a force in League 1 as he never has been. His goals record is poor and has never bettered one goal in four. Younger more athletic forwards are needed.

i think his assists will be far more sought after than his goal next season. IMO

Can't say I am happy tbh, what use do we have for a striker that doesn't score. Not very mobile and for a big guy doesn't throw his weight around much. Should only be an impact role at best and even then I would rather we had an upcoming striker/target man who had a bit of mobility about him.
Not knocking him, he has a great attitude and good experience but if we are looking to bounce back from league 1 a stronger club then we shouldn't be offering players like Platt new contracts.

If they are serious about getting back to the championship, cov will need to get championship players!

League 1 players will keep the team in league 1!

Signing Platt is signalling that SISU are happy to stay in League 1!

Another season without ambition - no thanks!

How many games has platt made an impact? All he does is stop the ball! When he does get it the ball never reaches the other player! How many assists has he got?

Sure he may well have a good work rate - but hell if I was paid to play football I would have a great work rate!

Work rate alone does not make a good footballer - ability does. Sadly Platt doesn't have it.

Free up his wages for a hungry and able youngster.

I think he could be a real asset in terms of the bigger picture. If we develop him in a similar way to Carsley to become part of the coaching set up.

He always sounds like he knows his stuff!

Jesus listen to some of you. "we need championship players"? We are in league 1 yet some of you want a squad full of players too good for this division!

As someone rightly pointed out, we will need a squad, not just a team, and platt with his experience will do a decent job at this level as a squad player.
Someone else also rightly said look how the big man up top served McDonald well in the past.

Yesterday I was reading people say we should be getting x,y and z from Leeds and other championship clubs. You do realise we are now in the third tier don't you, and probably aren't in the running for all of these championship players you want??

Until our finances are sorted out we're not even in the running for non league players

Some people seem honestly just bloody stupid. ANY of you saying that Platt on a low wage as a backup in squad is not a good idea?! Sorry, instead we should be signing someone on 5k+ to just sit on the bench for us shouldnt we. Unreal. Of course we should give Platt a year. I think a lot of people are actually forgetting he won us a fair few points this season, even if it wasnt quite enough, not like anyone else either did .

I can't believe some of the critics of Clive Platt.

For the second half of the season he put in some serious shifts and improved the points tally in a number of games with his hold up play and flick ons.

No he not a Drogba or Adeybayor but a thoroughly committed player giving his all for the club.

Who made more impact for CCFC this season Nimely with just 1 goal in 16 games or Plattini with 4 in 23.

So I say keep Clive, use him as an impact player and he will be a very useful asset to the club.

Not knocking him just saying if we want to rebuild and restructure the playing squad from league 1 as many including people at the club say we are going to do then Platt shouldn't be offered a new contract.

Nimley - far more of an impact player

I also don't think we should be resigning him - he'll be 35 in October and can't play 2 games in a week. He doesn't really score enough goals to be an impact player. I think he's done ok this season, but would rather go for someone who might get you a goal. If he's a regular starter we're in for a struggle - should be 4th choice at best.

We need to rebuild if we can.

Serious question here. Should we sign

a striker that will never be fit enough to play 2 games a week and only score 1 goal about every 6 games? Good in the air though.

If the answer would be no then why would we keep one either?

Please God no, he's not the answer. He's too old, too slow, provides too little goal threat. I've tried to defend Thorn but its no good him trying to hold onto the worst of our squad just because he knows them.

Unless he feels he won't be replaced with another striker....

Thorn talks about the need to 'freshen things up'. How is renewing the contract of a 35 year old who was never a prolific scorer even in his younger days going to achieve this?

He's worth keeping if the wages are right (no more than 3k-4k). He would be good to keep as a squad player to possibly use from the bench when a plan B is required in attack.

3K TO 4K will be about our top earner next season. And to have him sit on the bench?

We could easily find a striker for 1.5k a week that will not be fit enough for more than 1 game a week and score 1 goal every 6 games. For 3k a week in the division we are now in I would expect a player that could put the ball in the back of the net much more frequently. Goals win games, not a player good in the air looking for a last payday that has never scored many goals.

I would rather use some of the young ppl or loan some, Platt cant score goals and we will make him the best paid player.

I'm not sure on what wages other squad members will be on.
What sort of wage would you say Sheffers, Cody, Bell & Baker would be on??

I dont mean make Platt the Highest paid player, I think if the deals sensible in relation to everyone else's wages then hes worth keeping.

I'd be happy if he was going to be 4th choice, however, I fear he will be first choice and his goal scoring record simply isn't good enough for that. Even if Cody gets 20 goals next season you'd still need your second striker to chip in with 10+ and Platt simply will not do this.

Agreed, he just doesn't score enough goals. He missed lots of half-chances this season, (many of which didn't even look like chances because he was so slow to react in the first place) and I can't remember a less predatory striker at the City since Kevin Drinkell (actually, got one: Jairo Martinez!). I know he's a top team-player who gives it his all, but he'll be meat and drink to L1 defenders used to the direct game. We have to look to re-invest his wages on a player who will have a re-sale value and improve with us: like pretty much everyone Norwich signed two years ago has.
