no manager gets it 100% right in the transfer market.
Problem is, when money's tight and you get your marquee signing wrong you're in trouble, as Strachan found out.

The day that Mark Robins came back was the start of the upswing. 23rd in League One under Russell Slade was the nadir. Never before has there been so much apathy, such a disconnect between club & fans and such constant garbage shown on the pitch week after week.
Now that is definitely something that everyone will agree on!

I’d say it was worse under Hills dying days as chairman and that infamous Ipswich game

It was bad then but if we could have swapped our problems in early 2017 for our problems then, we'd have taken it.

Im talking about breakdown in relations which is what you quoted.

To my knowledge fans weren’t chasing players after the game to attack their car, players weren’t openly laughing at the fans as they were losing the game and bragging where they were going to and although a slightly different time frame fans weren’t chanting for the death of the chairman

That was only one part of what I said. We were still a top division team.

Which actually makes it harder. Starting at lowest ebbs is a distinct advantage in many ways

Definitely. So far, Robins has 2 achievements. Winning a Checkatrade final and coming 6th in league 2.

The Checkatrade final was a good win but it was a one off game.

The league 2 season wasn’t actually that great until we hammered Cheltenham. We were poor throughout lots of it and had some embarrassing results. You can’t rank this achievement as no other manager has ever had the chance to manage us in league 2. Specifically, when our budget dictates we should be one of the leagues best sides.

I love robins but he has had favourable circumstances.

Yes, I bet he has literally been chomping at the bit at having no ground, having to generate any funds himself & knowing he’ll only get a portion of those funds, having one of the smaller budgets and inheriting an unholy mess from his predecessors.

Oh yes, a huge advantage, so it’s a bit strange how it’s taken so long for other clubs of our stature to climb back through the leagues.

We went through this. It’s really only Portsmouth - it’s definitely easier to be at the bottom

I was too work in regional management. I would move from area to area as I convinced my director I could transform the worst region every two years. It was a piece of piss. I got the best bonuses and outstanding performance ratings as the bar of expectation was low. If you are in the top league you can only go one way

Robins hates the set up at the Ricoh and believes St Andrews is certainly no less having a ground than being there.

He’s also the only manager to my knowledge for a decade that’s been allowed to spend any funds from player sales

piece of piss, that must be why so many get sacked from this “easy job” I guess.

The ground situation has helped him.

All of our managers have had to generate funds. He is one of the only ones of recent years to have been allowed to spend it.

We had a big budget for league 2. Our budget this year will not be small. Whatever you want to define a ‘budget’ as anyway.

Getting sacked sets managers up - set the bar low and it’s easier to be a hero

We will forget Cody McDonald, Chris Dunn etc

Tell that to the other managers we’ve had, they’d love to hear how it was all set up for them.

It would be quite interesting to see where our playing budget lies in comparison to the rest of League One. Looking at the size of teams in the league I bet it's higher than people think.

Someone said it’s about average, but I have no idea if that’s true.
But as Darren Moore said, this is a team 3 years in the making, it’s not about money signings, it’s about having a game plan, a structure and getting the right players to fit it. In other words, excellent football management.

What other teams would have £750k to spend on a striker? I think we’ve proven that we have more funds that Burton and Doncaster (play off chasers) by signing Fadz, Allen and Marosi. We’ve also plucked players from the top Dutch league who assume aren’t cheap.

You’re right, it might even be higher than I first thought

How many of our last starting 11 were here 3 years ago?

Like I just said, and was said by Darren Moore who I’d venture to suggest knows a bit more than you, it’s the way of playing, we buy players to fit our style and way of playing, Robins doesn’t just buy because of who they are. It’s really not hard to understand.

Shipley and Kelly?

You could through the 18 and add Biamou that’s it I think

I think he means relegation season so Jones and I guess Shipley as a youth player

We play a completely different system now to the one we started the season with. That was different to the system we played last year. The system last year was totally different to the league 2 season.

And btw Darren Moore is wrong.

Why did he buy Kastaneer and Jobello then? How does Bakayoko or Hiwula fit into his pre ordained system

Also, I’m not knocking Robins for this. It is important to evolve and be flexible. Darren Moore however, is talking shite.

Ipswich had net spend of £630k, Peterborough £140k, they’re the only two to have spent more than they generated. Burton, Bolton, Blackpool, Fleetwood, Gillingham , Accrington, Bristol Rovers, Wycombe, Shrewsbury, Southend, Lincoln, MK, Tranmere all £0, we have net cash in of £1.25m, Rotherham net cash in of £3m, Portsmouth £4m, Sunderland £1.75m, Doncaster £1.5m

you can see it all on transfermarket.co.uk

Transfermrkt values Godden at £45,000 when we bought him a few months ago for £750,000
