• Two ball winning midfielders with good engines, nothing fancy.
• Two pacey wingers, that chip in with goals.

basic, 4-4-2, but was very effective at this level.

That's a fair point, of course.
However, it is possible to compete without a huge budget, thing is that leaves little room for error.
Thorn would need to sign bargains, who are fit, going to play a lot of games AND have the right mentality.
In L1 you don't need to be fancy and fuck about, you need ball winners in the centre etc

money aint as important the further down the league you go. when you are in the championship you need to be able to attract and then persuade bigger and better players to come to your club, and convince them that this is the place to be.

where we are now the players that we need to attract will be paying us once they see the ground and facilities compared to other L1 outfits

You make it sound so easy.

I think your being a bit harsh Sneiderlin and Hammond, they are a bit better than ball winners. They have shown this season that they are decent ball playing midfielders.

Also In Lambert, Lallana and Oxlade-Chamberlain they had three attacking players that were a class above the vast majority in the championship let alone league one.

Hammond and Schneiderlin have come on A LOT since their L1 season, the latter especially.
Chamberlain didn't play that much that season as was very young.

My point is more direct than the championship, less complicated

Chamberlain made 27 starts and 7 sub appearance in the league scoring 9 and 8 assists.

Hammond was already a decent midfielder for a few years with Brighton and Colchester and Sneiderlin has pedigree having played or France at every level up to Under 21's.

I agree its more physical and direct than the championship, however Norwich, Southampton, millwall, swansea, Brighton, Peterborough, etc have all shown the way to get out is by playing football and scoring lots of goals.

If you play direct hoofball type football, league one defenders will lap it up all day.

you need at least two decent league 1 standard players in each spot

GK Murphy / Dunn (if we can keep Murphy)
RB Clarke / Christie
CB Cameron / Mcpake / Wood (1 more signing) / (Willis to be gradually given game time)
LB Hussey / (1 more signing)
attacking LM Sheff / ( 1 more signing)
attacking centre mid (1 more signing) / Bigi / Thomas
Defensive mid Deegan / (one more signing)
attacking right mid Baker / (1 more signing)
Strikers Platt / Cody / (2 more signings)

That's 7 new signings for me, be it loans or free transfers. Thats if we dont release/sell any of the above. If we keep them and make the signings thats when you can then start giving the kids 15 minutes here and there.

For me though without those signings we again will have an 11 good enough to compete with anyone but a squad that will be battling to stay up.

To me Bell is a player to have on the bench until he gets some consistency

I hope that ROD is released and his wages to be used

He may do at this level as he is rapid and if we have to have him back then so be it. But in all honesty I hope you are right. I would rather his wages spent on a top player on loan from the prem or a proven 20 goal man at this level, if that is realistic
