Good on him. One of the best natural goal-scorers we had during the Premiership years: he should have played a lot more for us than he did, as his record in Spain indicates. I'll never forget the hat-trick against Charlton. I always used to say that if Aloisi had played all the games that Bellamy had for us, we'd have stayed up: and if Aloisi had got those bloody sitters that Bellamy fluffed, he'd have probably scored 30 goals!

I was there that day! Only time I've experienced anything close to the atmosphere you get in England at an Aussie football match. Brilliant game!

What sort of 'off the field issues'?

The issue appeared to be that we didn't pay as much for him as we did Bellamy so Bellamy played instead.

I always have believed that if we'd kept Aloisi after relegation we would've come straight back up. Proven goalscorer in that league and personally I think selling him was one of the stupidest mistakes I've seen at the club....and there's been a few....and one which proved very costly.

I was told around the time, that there was a fall-out between Aloisi and GS for "Off-field issues" i never got told what exactly.

I was only young so my memory of those days isnt great but I always remember him for slapping someone (i think it was Mills) on the top of the head and getting sent off, which spurred us on to come back from a losing possition to win the game :claping hands:Cant remember the score or if it was Mills, but i remember the slap on the head

Yeah I liked Aloisi, one of those whose allround game was not great but invariably he always scored and knew how to put it away, a very odd move in selling him, especially as we had signed him previously from that League and he was nearly on 20 goals 1/2 way through the season.

I too have heard he was sold for off field reasons but when you think of the lengths Strachan went to rehabilitate Whelan, surely something different could have happened.

The official line I think was that we planned to keep either Aloisi or Hartson. One of the deals to sell looked to have fallen through so we went and sold the other. As it was, the first deal then resurrected so both were sold. My memory's hazy on it so would happily be corrected.

Whelan got the equaliser the good old trond got the winner in the 85th min according to that link
