Gordan Strachan looked at Paul telfer the same way our supporters look at biamou... That's the best way to put this

No he didn’t he started him every week and signed him wherever he went - awful comparison

At the end of the day he has cost us very little and I'm happy that he's a decent enough player to have around the squad. He hasn't scored that many but then he's never been a consistent starter. The fact that he's comes back from a big injury, into an already successful team in a higher division and still managed to score at all says to me that he deserves his place. He grafts and gives his all and contributes at least some goals. We have had plenty of worse strikers than Max that have cost a lot more

He overrated telfer in the same way our supporters do biamou is what I was getting at... telfer was always bang average but tried.

I think the comparison is quite apt... Strachans love for telfer was absolutely bizzare

Lol. 8 goals?

Oh yeah cos play off semi final goals (biggest/most imoortsnt and best match in our recent doesn't count as judged by all supporters).

Oh yeah and fa cup goals don't count. Lol.

The play off semi final goals are his Keith Houchen moments but for balance as a number nine he went I believe 1,082 minutes without a goal and a striker of some ability would have rendered those games as unrequired

You have said it all. At least he has had his moments of gargantuan proportions.

Not really sure how that’s relevant right now? It’s 2 years ago.

I expressed my doubts whether Biamou could cut it in this league last season. He’s come back this season from a bad injury and he’s done well. Played 15 games, mostly off the bench and scored 4 goals.

Clearly not seen as a 1st choice by MR, but he certainly has a role play in this squad.

There has been some odd statistical manipulation by some on this thread.

There is a saying in football (and life) it's not where you have been but where you are at. And MAX right now is a 11 in 24 striker and has done that playing most of his games from the bench. By any measure that is outstanding. Especially given the injury he has just come back from.

As mentioned cyrille. 5 goals in his 1st season with us

Max is a good squad player playing his role well for us. In his first game against Notts County coming off the bench he looked like he'd never seen a football before. The improvement he's made in 2 years while dealing with a massive injury is admirable.

He'll never be Leon Clarke but he'll never be Roy O'Donovan either. He's doing his job assisting us vying for automatics and is scoring goals off the bench. Good enough player to have in the squad for me.

Sometimes I used to sit in the directors box at HR (a m8 of mine was one of the VP’s back then). Strachan was up there for the 1st half of a game, sat in the row in front of me. My m8 and I overheard him telling the person he was up there with that he picked Telfer because he always his followed instructions perfectly.

We assumed the instructions were to give the fucking ball away and lollop like Steve Whitton

I’ll be the first to admit that I thought he couldn’t hit a barn door from 5 yards out when we first signed him and he kept proving us right.
He still isn’t a prolific striker but what I will say is that his overall game has improved from coming back from injury and is more of a threat now and I think that is down to partial improvement but he also has greater and better players around him who create space and play better balls to him.
If he continues to improve and scores more regularly in the league then great, he will never be a Dublin but a Rosario and Houchen possibly and he’s better than Henderson

The other thing is a massive amount of a strikers game is just frame of mind, confidence etc. They go through spells of goals and spells of lean. Max has the attributes to score more and is in a bit of form right now.

No one can say he isn’t playing a major part in an exciting campaign.
He’s certainly won me over, and I wasn’t his biggest fan last season, so we’ll done Max, keep up the good work.
I don’t think you were his greatest fan this season either.

Well no it isn't but there's a medium I think between hyping him up and saying how rank average he is. He joined us from non-league relatively late and it's clear that League 1 is his ceiling but he can and does contribute more than some donkeys we've had in this league.
League Two was his ceiling until recently. He scored against a Championship club the other week. I like Max. I think he is an okay player at this level. He isn’t our best ever free signing I don’t think. I don’t think we would have got promotion last season even if he was fit.
However, I don’t get the need to write him off. Clearly the 8 goals in 50 odd games is misleading as a lot of those were as a sub. His goals per minutes on the pitch show what a good contribution he is making and what a good finisher he is. To quote Pontichelli’s record is also misleading as his time on the pitch is a lot less than Biamou’s. I think if Max was used more, he would score more. However as we are winning and the goals are being spread around who cares? It’s just a shame that some people want to belittle a player who wears Sky Blue, plays his heart out and is an effective member of the squad.

We actually talking now about biamou being one of our greatest ever free signings?

Has this forum lost its collective mind

8 league goals in 59 league games.

I appreciate any effort put in and we all love somebody who puts in a shift... But shit the bed people

We're actually in contention to win a league, if we can't lose our collective mind now we'll never be able to!

Max is a great squad player for us he can do the unexpected has got that little bit of unpredictability is capable of the spectacular and has consistently scored this season after a career threatening injury he's been a massive bonus to us after returning from injury. I'm glad we have him he's a match winner

Yup. Max basically had his own goal of the season contest in L2 and he's hit some more crackers in L1. His all round game and general talent is pretty ordinary but think you can see why he has the status he does

Works very hard.
Scores important goals.
Scores impressive goals (screamers, overhead kicks)
Clearly has a great attitude.
Makes an effort with fans.

As others say, not the biggest natural talent in the squad, but definitely an important part of the squad and a big part of our success this year (as are the majority of the squad). Happy to have him around.

His first 1,082 minutes as a professional footballer. A lot of players do this, they just tend to be younger than Max was.

Max has played an important role so far this season, just as he did in our L2 season.

I actually disagree he has a lack of natural ability, his technique is very good (hence some of his spectacular goals) and his adaptability and significant improvement since joining us shows he has a natural underlying ability.

I’ve always been a Biamou fan and his contribution can be overlooked by those who rely solely on stats. They are important, but a reliance on stats alone shows a real lack of awareness of football knowledge. Albeit this year his stats are incredibly impressive, so not sure what there is to criticise, yet some find a way.

Will he make it in the Championship? Not sure. But he’s made the jump to L2 and then L1, so he’s certainly worth keeping around.

And the argument he’s liked solely because he takes selfies and is a nice bloke is incredibly lazy.

I will tell you something else for free - when he comes on the opposing team have no idea how to deal with him - he is unconventional to say the least but I am bloody glad we have him - Notts county game was one of my all time favourite game days PUSB
