Important to see how far we've come in 3 years.
This is Mark Robins very first starting 11 in the league upon returning
And comparing it to arguably our strongest 11 today (opinion related ofcourse)

Coventry City 0-2 Bradford City

  • 1 Burge Marosi
  • 21 Foley. Dabo
  • 7 Clarke. Hyam
  • 4 Turnbull. Mcfadzean
  • 3 Stokes. Rose
  • 27 Thomas. McCallum
  • 31 Stevenson. Kelly
  • 12 Reilly. Walsh
  • 14 Thomas. Allen
  • 9 Vernam. O hare
  • 16 Beavon. Godden

We've come a long way

What a fantastic job

I honestly believe Mark Robins is the best thing to happen to our club for 20 odd years. I’ve never known the football as good and the results with it like this. Where he got us 3 years ago to now is incredible and the best signing this season was signing him to a new contract when Sunderland came sniffing. This guy is good for our football club.

to think some were calling for his head just shows how fickle our fans are and where they think a better manager is who is clearly in love with this club is beyond my words. He will lose games and we will have testing times. This guy has proved his worth time and time again and worth backing. He deserves a lot more than us imo and with no money and even moving grounds it’s simply a miracle what he has done for me.

Thanks Mark and the team. This season has been fantastic and I think sometimes their hard work and results goes un noticed. Not by me. It makes such a difference to my working week to go in winning in to work every week. We can go up this season and we are almost there. PUSB

The absolute state of that back 4 (bar Stokes)

Reilly was ok at times, G Thomas and Stevenson also tried hard but that was it for that side. One of the worst in CCFC history

This rumour has started to get out of control now. Nobody has called for him to be sacked. A couple of posters said he needs to improve when we were on a bad run and if not he might come under pressure. I don't agree with that statement but it isn't calling for him to be sacked.

You can bet your bottom dollar that if we're in the bottom four or five of the Championship this time next season, a huge chunk of the fanbase will call for his head. That's my biggest fear about promotion - some thinking we have a right to be fighting for the EPL when we were in the old Division Four only the blink of an eye ago. I just hope people give him the time he's earnt and deserves.

You're already angry at some fans you've made up in year head. Keep these thoughts for the shower.

Hard to believe that was a League One team as well! Albeit if we're being flippant (and I know there were loans involved of course) but look at the team from a year before that point, there was some serious decline in 13 months Coventry City 6-0 Bury

Genuinely have no idea who Vernam is/was! It was Kevin Foley though, right? Ex-Wolves?

Vernam is ex-Derby I think, moved around a lot, and now ended up at Grimsby under Ian Holloway. Still only young (23/24 maybe) but seems to be doing well at Grimsby. Vaguely remember his time here, but didn't set the world alight from memory.

What bad run? We have lost 3 games since August

Between Fleetwood on 23rd October and Lincoln on the 21st December we won 1 league game. Is that good form?

Sounds worse than it is though. No losses in that time* and 2 of the draws were Sunderland and Peterborough away. And 1 was Ipswich at home.

*Not counting the Shrewsbury loss as it was the day after my birthday and I had a hangover so nothing from that day counts.

It all looks fine now as we turned it around and have had a great overall season but some people are trigger happy and get frustrated when we're not wining games. If you go back further to 28 September against Donny our record was won 2 drawn 6 lost 3, in no way was that a good run of form. Just because we're having a great season doesn't mean there isn't an objective reality.

You can't make a point that isn't a variation of "we're the best team int he world" at the moment without people calling you an unbeliever. It's like fucking Jonestown.

Although it would inevitably happen if we get promoted the Championship is a whole other ball game financially so staying up would IMO be good enough and anything more than that a success. If we're still in Birmingham I'd even be happy to keep him even if we got relegated (although I wouldn't tell him that to begin with in case he got complacent)

I remember us getting Charles Vernam and Farrend Rawson at the same time, I'm still convinced someone at Derby was just making those names up for a laugh.

They sound like names from High Rise by JG Ballard, Ferrend in particular must be on a 'What's your name in a post-apocalyptic dystopia?" type thing.

This thread kind of sums modern football up- you're either the greatest of all time or you need to be escorted out of the ground with your head under a sack, all judged on about 5 games. All semblance of patience has gone.
