Yes, series 1-2 are classic.

The Office intentionally avoiding doing the same was a masterstroke, although I did like the Brent film
Certainly, I really do think though most of the stuff post 1990 was pretty poor and the 2003 comeback an embarrassment. First 4 or 5 series were the best.Im shocked at how many people havent mentioned Only Fools and Horses. Surely up there for lots of people not just myself?
I went to a pup quiz night hosted by Big Mad Andy where the questions were all Peep Show themes and the prizes were things like McCoys, Ribena & a Twirl, or coupons for Pringles.
I thought the Brent film was utter dross and undid all the good work 2 series and a Christmas special did.
It's no wonder Stephen Merchant didn't want anything to to do with it.
I think many programmes fall into that bracket - try to milk a successful formula within an inch of its life. Comebacks, spin-offs and Christmas specials are usually (in my view) crap. The best programme makers know when to call it a day.Certainly, I really do think though most of the stuff post 1990 was pretty poor and the 2003 comeback an embarrassment. I didn't mind it but I don't consider it as part of the Office canon, it was more like a tribute act to David Brent than the actual character from the show.
