Robins said he was ill for the first leg and only had one training session that week therefore he was never in contention to play. I posted this then you went missing
So he didn't play in the 1st leg? Thanks for confirming my post. Wish I'd seen that

Anyone who thinks there is a so called rivalry is dull.

Just for context, I was at that game in 1977. I was 11- I am now 54.

Punk was the new “thing”, Thatcher wasn’t yet in power, Jimmy Saville and Rolf Harris we’re popular tv personalities, Liverpool handy yet won a European Cup, Geoff Boycott scores his 100th century,

Well to start with you said he was dropped after the Lincoln game and begged for a yes or no then went missing after it was proven he never, it’s not been a good day for you

Dunno how people find the time to trawl through other teams forums. Just reading this one takes up far more of my time than is healthy.

Trawl?

If you can read a title you can normally guess what a thread is about. I work 12 hour shifts. Night shifts can get a bit boring. I have a spare 5 minutes easily.

I now try to ignore the threads like this. Someone is wrong. Come out with bullshit thinking they can make themself look right. They dig a bigger hole. Think they can still make themself look right. They dig so deep they end up in Australia. And they still think they can make themself look right. Gives me an extra 5 minutes to waste elsewhere.

There is so much crap written about that 1977 game, obviously much of it from Sunderland idiots who weren't there.

I've just read that they claim that 'on that afternoon' (FFS!) Bristol City and us wasted a full 15 minutes knocking the ball around. In fact it was around 6 minutes, during which time Bristol had the ball, not us. The biggest lie is that the result from Everton was announced on the Tannoy - it wasn't. All that happened was that the score was flashed on the scoreboard as Everton 1 Sunderland 0. After the final whistle the scoreboard flashed 'Score Correction', seemingly for ages before announcing it had finished 2-0.

The Sunderland morons who perpetuate this rubbish were obviously nowhere near Highfield Road that night. But that hasn't stopped them swallowing every lie and embellishing the story over the years. They also conveniently forget that they have been relegated at least 9 times since that night. What a sad, rubbish club they are!

What surprises me is that there has been the Bennett/Speedie incident, the Froggatt/Summerbee incident and the countless games to wet the appetite but I didn't sense a rivalry during that time or even bitterness.
Whatever set of circumstances happened on that 77 night the fact is Sunderland lost to Everton and had they won we would have been relegated.
When we went 2-0 up it was not an issue, when it was pulled back to 2-2 it became a problem. A man died in the stand that night before kick off and there was a huge crowd( we haven't had a bigger crowd since I believe) which had to shoe horned in to Highfield Road including 10,000 Bristol City fans. I am sure the flashing up on the screen was deliberate but everything else was circumstances. Yes and the Hill/Dicks relationship possibly had a bearing.
That said my tuckshop money was taken by Carmody but if I saw him today I would buy him a mars bar. Life's too short....

Let's just forget about them...
They upped the tension a couple years back, we never cared about them prior.

Fans had a scrap

Sunderland got battered, we move on
;)
I just view them as a point cow. Like a cash cow but for points. A cash point cow. A cow point.
Whatever the fuck, they are only here to serve as a springboard for our promotion. And to that extent I will give them creedence. But only for that.
Point cow?
