It was a travesty that he never made the final England squad for the world cup in 98
[/QUOTE][I don't profess to know the details of Dions move but I'm fairly certain he was already cup tied, from a previous round
QUOTE="Adge, post: 1935914, member: 8213"]No, not really. The buying club didn’t want him cup tied. Standard really sometimes as part of a deal.
Not read the rest of the thread before replying to this, but my belief is that the Chairman (Richardson) offered Dublin the new contract to up his transfer fee, then sold him as quickly as possible. Dublin reportedly turned down a bigger money move to Blackburn as he didn't want to move his wife and kids (decent bloke), and was then sold to VillaShould of hung on to the end of that season and then gone to a bigger club than villa. Seemed like he grabbed at the first serious offer on the table at the time.
Dion is going to be at Christ the King on Friday 4th May, presumably doing a Q and A session. I can't make it, so I haven't kept the details, but if I recall correctly, tickets were £25, to include a chicken and chips meal - plus Dion of course!
Don't forget George CurtisYes. It made no difference if he had joined any of the teams in the top flight. He was looking after his family and future.
We basically pushed Dennis Mortimer to Villa Park against his wishes, bought Ray Graydon and had Steve Hunt so it was not as though trading between the clubs was unheard of.
No indeed, although Villa were in Division 3 then I believe.Don't forget George Curtis
