That's down to Holloway more than anything-he excels at managing underdog teams. Even so, Blackpool were an exception to the general rule that those who spend big usually win big.

Yep sometimes the right bunch of players and manager come together at the right time and everything just clicks. Similar with palace, Watford and Hulls promotions.

The CET seemed to think it was about £8m in 2010/11 and then about £5m before losing Juke who was on £7k pw.

Also in an article in the independent it talked about clough cutting derby's wage bill from £16m to £9.6m.

many thanks stupot07.....take a look at this.....

Blackpool Football Club formed in 1887 in the Lancashire seaside town of Blackpool – a popular destination for British holiday makers. They gained promotion to the Premier League in 2010 after almost 40 years outside the top division. Their return to the top flight was sealed in May after a 3-2 play-off final win against Cardiff City.
Blackpool’s return to the Premier League is made even more impressive considering they had the lowest squad wage bill in the entire Championship League and were only promoted to the Championship itself two seasons previous. Starting the 2009/2010, they were favourites to get relegated but proved everyone wrong with a series of stirling displays.
They play at Bloomfield Road Stadium (12,555 capacity) and are nicknamed ‘The Seasiders’.

We that must be wrong because their wage bill was £12.3m, and yet PNE had slashed theirs from £11m+ to £6.5m that season.

Their wage bill when in the premier league was according to an article in the daily mail to be £10 million.

Wonder if the 12.3 million includes the large promotion bonuses Blackpool paid out. That must've run to a few million.

The promotion bonuses this year are 5m. Trainees get 10k each. Not sure about all others at Blackpool.

This article shows that before bonus's Blackpools 2009/10 promotion winning squads wage bill was around £7m.

http://upthepool.blogspot.co.uk/2011/04/financially-speaking-part-two.html?m=1

The below article shows that at least 5 sides had a wage bill lower than £7m in 2009/10 scunthorpe (£4.6m), QPR (£6m), millwall and Leicester (£6.4m) and on a previously posted link PNE (£6.5m), do that makes at least 5 sides with a wage bill lower than £7m.

I concur that Blackpool did not win promotion with the lowest wage bill in the league in the 2009/10 season. :)

It seems whichever site one gets information from, there are grey areas.
So I concur that ONE team had a lower wage bill than Blackpool. ;)..Great debate stupot07:claping hands:

:) yeah great debate. Shame their wiki page is so rubbish for that season, would've been interesting to see what their transfer ins and outs were.

I work with a bloke who's son is a trainee with Blackpool. He is on loan with Ayr ATM. He has been trainee of the year 2 seasons on the trot now. I believe what he says. 5m shared for going up. Each trainee gets 10k

The wage bill in the premiership season was £10 million. The owner decided to personally pocket £11 million of the premier bonus himself.

Almost but not quite, The £11m was given to his father;)

The father, Owen oysten, is the owner. The son is the chairman. The son on justifying the £11 million dividend to his father said it was better than increasing players waged as they would just buy another Ferrari. The main point is Ian holloway did a magnificent job keeping players together who were paid championship wages in the premier league. I know for a fact one regular first team player was receiving less a week in that league than Eastwood.

They were on 10k a week max. We paid King that much. Brum are paying him even more.
