Genuinely can’t get my head around that. Polar opposite to me.
That cup period was a unique time. Started from the top with Snoz and Curtis who genuinely loved the club. Snoz was an infectious character and passed it on to the players for a "happy" squad.
It played good, entertaining football.
Cup run with all those away games was a special time. That was a Spurs side packed with stars and international players. We weren't given a shout despite the league results.
Cup was so different then. It was massive. Nobody put out reserve sides. The media build up before and actual final day coverage you don't see anything like anymore. BBC would broadcast from early morning all sorts of shows with a cup final theme. The players coaches from the hotel to Wembley had its own live show.
Rank outsiders to win the cup in 87. In a 2 horse race, odds of 3 to 1 was nuts.
One of the club directors had a grand on us before the 3rd round at 50 to 1.
.
The cup win easily. Look at how many different teams have won it in since or even ever. It's a massive achievement despite Sky recently devaluing the trophy aided by the FA
Cup in those days considered nearly as important as the league. We won a MAJOR trophy.Back in the 70s and 80s if you'd asked people if you'd rather win the league or the FA cup a surprising number would have said cup.
It was a really big deal back then and the league cup was quite a big deal as well.
in 87 we finished 10th
we drew the last 3 games for 3 points
6 points in those games would have seen us finish 6th, which would have equalled our highest ever finish

What a load of shite. Success is relative to your current level. We are not a top flight team and haven't been for 19 years. Winning any league you're in is an achievement. Can anyone name the years when we did well in a lower division?
Can anyone name the years we won the FA cup?
You are not doing well to be able to win Division 3. If you were you wouldn't be able to win it. But the FA cup? Just a run in the FA cup is a dream to many. Several hundreds of clubs are involved. As others have said the FA cup was massive when we won it. Watched around the world. Wouldn't change our win for anything.
Getting promoted to the Championship this season in the context of where we were when Robins came back and without a significant injection of money, and playing our home games away......to me it would be one of the biggest achievements in the history of our club.
The Cup was amazing and very significant but as an established top flight side I think it was expected that we would be in with a shout one year.
This would be bigger to me in the context of where Robins started the journey.
Anyway Cup runs/Wembley play-offs always bring out the non core support who learn a few songs on the train and think they are die hards; give me the core support any day of the week. I enjoyed Notts County away more than the Cup Final to be honest - I know that puts me firmly in the minority but just the way I see it!
The whole city was draped in colour, the whole city (and more!) turned out for the victory parade, the whole city was empty while the match was on, it brought people out from all over the place and you'd go abroad and people would know Coventry City because of the cup win. After years of the city getting hit with factory closures and general malaise, this was a time when we could all be proud of where we came from.We were far from established we’d been thumped by Liverpool the previous season and Makay left and we were going down
The one good think makay did was re employ Sillett after that clown Gould sacked him
We were saved that season just but everyone assumed we’d be struggling again - we ended up for a couple of years being a real competitive team in the top flight - this isn’t the same
This and the fact the FA Cup just doesn't have the same kudos these days means it’s not seen as such a big thing. Back in those days as several posters have stated, it was almost as big as winning the league. There is a reason the cup winners get to play in the charity shield.Depends on your age, I guess. Cup for me, but for the young 'uns who weren't alive then, promotion would probably the pinnacle.

I've never seen anything like the victory parade, the outpouring of goodwill and celebration and... joy.
Remember being in Broadgate for the victory parade. Me and some mates ended up on the roof of the entrance to a department store (Owen Owen?).
It's bizarre that one of the things I remember most about that day is somebody falling off that roof and through the roof of an ice cream van.
There was a (raspberry) ripple of applause...
Out with your stupid comments having a go at anything I post as usual. What a load of shite. Success is relative to your current level. We are not a top flight team and haven't been for 19 years. Winning any league you're in is an achievement.
The fixture Gods gave us Spurs on the first day of the following season and we beat them then.Really? I thought we beat them 1-2? I’ve been telling people that for years!
Carry on posting on RTG then, they've got delusions of being better than the level they're at so you'll fit in. I shouldn't have said load of shite as it was unnecessary but my post otherwise standsOut with your stupid comments having a go at anything I post as usual.
So instead of being a twat as usual how about pointing out where I have said it wouldn't be an achievement. How about pointing out where I have said that success isn't relative to the level we are at.
It is dickheads like you that is doing damage to this forum.
Or would you like to show where you have had such a go at others that have said anything similar to myself.
But no. Just be your normal dickhead self. Don't worry. You have won. I hardly post anymore because of you and a couple of other dickheads. Well done.
Does it? You made out I had said things I hadn't as usual. I asked you to point them out but as usual you didn't. You also didn't have a go at anyone who said anything similar.Carry on posting on RTG then, they've got delusions of being better than the level they're at so you'll fit in. That was the big difference. The whole city came to a standstill. Remember seeing pictures taken in the city centre during the game. It was totally empty. I remember the homecoming. Even those who didn't normally like football got involved.I weren’t around for the buzz of 1987, so for me promotion this year would be huge with everything that’s gone on the last 4-5 years!
Can’t really compare the two!
