Amazing. Boris does something “this is the best advice scientifically and he is a genius ahead of the rest of the world.” Boris does the opposite “this is so much smarter than those silly scientific advisors and Boris is a genius for following the rest of the world”.

Talk about Teflon.

Point me to where any of those things have been said, by anyone, anywhere. Teflon? Do you think he'll come out of this we'll.

The political point scoring is all a bit much. True colours been shown here.

If that’s true then by you as much as anyone else. And bottom line is he either got it wrong or he’s now bullshitting, you have no way of arguing that.

they seem to like being taken for prize twats and just keep coming back for more.

says the one who’s been ill for the past few days and has been in the pub and yet appears to want more social distancing ?!

Ps feel free to respond to my comments on you believing Cummings is controlling the country and the fact khan was following the same medical advice as the government

You just said that there was no political element to all this?

And if it is political then they’re now putting popularity over what they think will save lives- nice bunch.

Somehow this makes sense to you. I'm lost.

Just clarify. What do you want them to do? Follow the advice? You didn't like that. Bow to pressure and ignore the advice? You don't like that either.

I am negative, official, thank you for your concern. As is the only other bloody person in this place. And I don’t have a plan, unlike you I have not claimed to be an “expert”- my point, as you actually know, is that I don’t like the way people were fawning all over what was being said and done when you bear in mind the incompetence and deceit we’ve seen every step of the way, and when you consider it flew in the face of everything that everyone else was saying. It felt wrong, now it seems we discover it was wrong- or they’re just too weak to do what they’re convinced is right.

I’ve had a couple of scoops, everything makes perfect sense. Ask me tomorrow morning and I’ll want total solitary confinement for about 48 hours.

I look forward to Grendel's apology tomorrow and him admitting that he (plus Boris and his experts) got it wrong.

I’ve never said I’m an expert (in fact I’ve been clear in my posts that it’s just my opinion). I listen and take others points of view but I’d never push an opinion and then do the exact opposite (going out in social situations when the government advised yesterday to self isolate for 7 days if you have symptoms) and then have true balls to say the government isn’t doing enough ! Nice one !

Ps I also think it’s pretty irrelevant if you’ve been out, as I have. A majority of the country appear likely to get the virus whatever is done so as long as they keep away from the elderly and those who are ill (and ideally self isolate if they have symptoms) then I think that’s all that can be done

Your use of the word 'he' is telling. It's all about him, that's the priority here. The theme running through this thread all day is to stick the boot in, and when he does what you want, stick the boot in again.

Boris is fair game on all sorts of issues, fill your boots. Using this incredibly difficult situation to score political points is low. Thankfully, the opposition parties have refrained from doing that, not least because, on this issue, they really wouldn't want to be in his shoes right now. Yeah, but fat, lazy, stupid hair, Eton... blah blah.

I only read some of that as I am about to play darts and I’m sick of the Coronavirus for one day. It’s not fucking political- I’m no fan of any of them- it’s about this prick taking the country for a bunch of fools. Sorry that you are a victim of this and all that, but ffs- cop on will you, if you back this prick you’ll end up looking stupid like this every time.

I get it, it’s not nice to be made to look daft, but it ain’t my fault everyone has been bullshitted yet again.

It is a lot about him yes. I mean, he is our prime minister.

I will happily admit I despise the man. But people's lives and health takes priority right now, if I felt Boris was doing the right thing I would happily say so and I really wish he was doing the right things. But I, and many others, have been saying for a little while now that we are simply not doing enough while the world puts measures in place.

And as much as I dislike the bloke, there are plenty who love him and praise everything he does including his response to this pandemic.

This U-turn it does not reflect well on him, or those who have been defending him all day.

Enjoy the darts and have another couple. I could do with one myself.

I'll say this as I bow out. I'll defend him when a. I think he is right and b. If I think the criticism is unfair. As a centrist who leans left on a fair few issues, I'm not afraid to admit that I like him, warts and all. That doesn't make me look stupid very often, backing the winning horse rarely does tbh.

I've seen so much today that has been batshit and I can't help sticking my oar in, not so much on here but elsewhere (comparisons with the holocaust for example). It's all lurched a bit too much to a Boris pile-on and people seem to be enjoying it, so you start questioning people's motives a bit.

I respect you and I don’t mean to be gobby, old habits die hard especially after a beer or two.

I wouldn’t even call myself a centrist, I’ve been told I’m more an ‘anarchist’, I’m certainly no Labour supporter. I’d rather they had won over Boris but they’re rubbish.

I can’t recommend the ‘ban public gatherings’ thing very much, people are spooked here and there are literally 3 people in the pub, never seen anything like it.

Whatever happens now they need to stick to it and make it work best they can, all this swapping and changing will likely just cause more confusion and put people at risk.

edit: the only upside is that I don’t have to put up with that god awful diddly dee music blasting out all day long on Tuesday..

I've made a decision to stop shaking hands with people. Nothing to do with Corona virus. It's that nobody has bog Rolls
I have a car boot full of them. Doesn't mean I would want to shake your hand
What I have been doing is giving them to the old/infirm who can't keep going to shops hoping there will be some in stock. The exact same people who need to be careful they don't catch the virus.

It is what I do for a living. The only reason we have empty shelves is because people see empty shelves..... And what people read on the internet. There is no shortage in real life.

The problem is all logistical. The bog roll doesn't come off the end of a line and suddenly appear in a shop. They have to be shipped out. Then the smaller the shop the more destinations they have to go through. Not even a supermarket would have the room for a full lorry load. If people were not panic buying there would easily be enough to go around.

The internet can be a fantastic thing. But it sometimes gives the chance for idiots to take over the asylum.

Not really. But ok

Haha of course it is. They've literally changed their mind in 24 hours.

I think they've had their hand forced by all the organisations, eg PL and EFL, cancelling everything leaving them as the only people in the country who think we should carry on with mass gatherings.

It's not a good look for them and public opinion is shifting.

Yes, which is a big change of plan from Johnson and the experts.

Not really. I presume you didn’t watch/listen to the press conference, whatever your thoughts on the government and their plans, it’s worth a watch (dull as some may find it)

here’s the link. Listen to the advice from 26 mins (of the immediate steps government was taking), see 27 mins 30secs in relation to thoughts on social gatherings. Basically they don’t think banning is going to help much but are discussing these and will confirm shortly regarding further action (as I say its pretty much taken out their hands in any event due to players coming down with coronavirus and/or clubs self isolating)

i wouldnt usually take the trouble but after basically being called a daft, gullible twat by a combination of you and ROS I thought it was worth sharing. This isn’t some point scoring exercise, just trying to share genuine/accurate advice and guidance

Enough of the bullshit. We have 10 games left. Others have 9. In 3 weeks why can't all teams play behind closed doors and finish the season? The league season. I don't get it. 11 men vs 11 men for 90 mins. All players tested before hand. Isn't it that simple??

Fair enough. There's stuff I guess we'll never agree on, but probably plenty where we do.

Like I say, I think he's stuck between a rock and a hard place here. He, like all other world leaders, is well out of his comfort zone. They have to act based on advice, and I think that's exactly what he did. Perhaps his biggest mistake was to be too willing to cede control of policy to advisors and not opt for a clearer and more decisive message on social distancing.

He says that banning public events has little effect.

24 hours later he is going to ban them.

And you don't think that's a U-turn?

He's been shown up by the Premier League and EFL.

Have job actually listened to what he says ?!

what do you mean shown up ? The premier league (with EFL following) has made a decision for themselves not the fans. Do you believe if arteta, Hudson-odoi and others that aren’t available and teams werent in self isolation, they would’ve suspended fixtures ?!

What? I'm not just reading the headlines. I have done plenty of reading on the subject and my opinion was, and has been for a while, that we haven't been doing anywhere near enough. And my opinion on the latest news is that it's too late and has been an appalling response to this crisis.

I say again, almost every other country on the planet has put in stricter measures than we have. We've had the 'benefit' of seeing what's happened in Italy and Spain and our government's response was literally: 'let everyone catch it.'

I mean come on, that is just disgusting.
