Why are we looking at a minimum of 20000 deaths and China only had 3000 or so. I don’t understand
Few possible reasons:
- China lie. A lot. And may have had a lot more deaths
- China went a lot harder on lockdown than we plan to or are able to
- China may well have only had their first wave and will get another once lockdown lifts
- There’s still a lot of ill people in China who could die. There’s 108k active cases as we speak with 7k of those critical.
(also China’s had almost 8,000 deaths)
Edit: two more
- We have a much higher population density than China
- I believe the deaths stated in the paper include non directly coronavirus related deaths caused due to lack of health care capacity. I’m not sure of the split of the total figure.
