It's the media making everybody hysterical and then they think it's the end of the world.

The smaller shops like Coops and One Stop are getting robbed blind. None of them have any security and the staff know full well it's happening but they can't do anything.

Last week in our Tescos the shelves were full of toilet rolls. I thought 'thank God the people in my town aren't wankers". I didn't buy as we still had half a packet. By the weekend the shelves were all empty.

I shop at Tesco Metro at Jubilee Crescent, or Asda at Jubilee Crescent, or Also on Radford Road.

Occasionally at Sainsbury's in town.

Morrison's was exactly like that until a few days ago, it changed very fast. Perhaps word gets around as to has anything left?

I am trying to shop as normal, but what did I find this morning? No bread, no milk, no soya milk, no toilet roll, no water, no beans, no pasta, no tinned vegetables, no crisps.

It becomes self-fulfilling as well. Pretty sure I don't need any more tinned veg, but the total absence makes me think if I see it, I should buy a tin or two, just in case!

Reckon it will settle down in a couple more days....peoples cupboards, spare rooms and garages must be getting full by now !!!

Also supermarkets are redirecting staff to help with shopping/food/essentials side of things.

Where are people putting everything? When I do a 'big shop' I get a weeks worth of stuff and that's about all have the room to store. Even then I usually make a couple of trips a week to the local shop for the essentials.

People's houses must be like distribution centres.

Just spoken to my Mum who insisted on going and doing her usual weekly shop at Sainsburys today despite being told not to and that I'd do it for her. Was there at 8am as usual, had to queue to get in and the shelves were empty.

She then tried to book click and collect / home delivery to save the hassle and there's not a single slot available in the next 3 weeks.

They really need to get a grip on this fast. Its great Boris keep getting up and telling everyone there's no shortage but what are people supposed to do when there's nothing in the shops? The people who have so far done as instructed are now going to be looking thinking they'd better stock up as soon as they see anything on the shelves for fear of ending up with nothing.

Is anybody else planning long term? As in grow your own? I am, I've been considering keeping chickens for a few years but always put off due to only having a fairly small garden, might be a great time to get a few.....

That's an impressive over-night restocking - and shows that supply lines are sound.

I was in there 9.30 last night. Without exaggeration, 50% or more of the shelves were empty

One thing I've noticed is that eggs, flour and sugar tend to be at a premium so if nothing else next year's Bakeoff will be the most competitive series yet.

I'm no fan of this shitty government, but I know they've removed restrictions on freight driver hours to help with the increased distribution, but its the fucking big retailers than really need to get a grip.....and it looks like they are starting to raise their game...albeit belatedly.
They need to properly enforce the rationing & protected shopping hours until such time as all goods can be replenished....and if they're crying about staff shortages, then I'm pretty fucking sure theres plenty of folks already laid off from other industries who are more than capable of stacking shelves & loading/unloading wagons etc.

Personally, I'd also recruit all the security & door staff from the now closed pubs & clubs to give any greedy selfish c**t with a trolley full of pasta a good kick around the car park.

Don't forget, these multinational supermarket chains are fucking raking it in at present....I bet this quarters sales will top the Xmas period.

We've been growing our own veg since we moved into the village 20+ years ago. Fortunately we have a big garden, but to be honest it's getting too much for me to handle nowadays. But I'll carry on for as long as I can even if it means cutting down on the amount grown.

It’s not for the government to control these selfish pricks though, it’s their own moral compass (risky leaving it to that I know !!) and as JHF says, the supermarkets themselves. They know what stock they have in/available, it’s not hard to restrict to 2 or 3 of a certain item. They have taken steps to ensure more staff are focussed on keeping the shelves stocked up but need to take action as elderly are going without

Handy stock ingredient, especially for vegetarians. Cakes, omelettes, you name it.

Also last a moderately long time.

We save seed from Runner, French & Black beans, peas, tomatoes, sweet and chilli peppers. The rest of our seed we buy in from a good supplier on eBay.

Decided to buy flour and yeast and make bread/pasta - but just got back and they didn't have any of that either.

Top Tip: if you ask at Tesco bakery they will give you fresh yeast for nothing. Doesn't help if they have no flour though.

We save seed from Runner, French & Black beans, peas, tomatoes, sweet and chilli peppers. The rest of our seed we buy in from a good supplier on eBay.

I also harvest basil and spinach seeds and butternut squash last year (will see how that does). Been using the seeds from one basil plant for about 5 years now (their offspring, not the original seed). The downside is having to put up with the mess for a month or so as they go to seed. Nasturtium and marigold also easy.
