I have never cut my cord with Coventry, mainly through our team but to a lesser extent family and I would like to ask a question?
What the fuck did labor ever do for Coventry?
We have had closures of industries, heart ripped out of communities both under labor government and councils. Prominent mp's such as Wilson and Robinson and Crossland.
Where has it ever been positive?
I am not convinced at all by the sneering and finger pointing because frankly I don't see where socialism has proven itself to be better for Coventry.

I think the main issue in this is if you want to have some major say in the running of Coventry then it's better to join Labour then it is to join the Conservatives.

A lot of former and current councillors and MPs, you couldn't tell which party they belong to if you took away their rosette, and this is where the problem lays.

You really need to read what I asked. Labor. Coventry. Socialism.

I read it. Firstly you can’t spell Labour. Secondly you can’t institute socialism in a single city under the legal and budgetary constraints of a local authority. Thirdly it’s not the socialist wing of the Labour Party that has been running the city for however long.

Finally Coventry isn’t anything like as bad as you make out. Most of the things you mentioned were nothing to do with the local authority.

It was an ill informed rant that bears no relation to reality. We aren’t talking Liverpool council in the 80s FFS and even if we were the funding agreements, control over services, and powers available to LAs is nothing like it was.

Your views are decades out of date.

The decline in industry mainly relates to manufacturing which has been on the decline nationwide since Thatcher and her policies have played a huge part.
Having said that, Coventry is still a reasonably successful city though I don't attribute that to the council.

How was anything I said a suggestion that Coventry had benefitted from the Labour Party? If you must know historically the council funded schools in the city better than in neighbouring areas and they continue to receive higher grants.

I have been putting the point forward on the server recently if you want change then it's time to get organised.

The Local Elections in Coventry have been put back by a year.

A thread for people to get organised and think of the best way forward to tackle the issues of traditional political parties doing nothing for Coventry would always be welcome.

I am a great believer in Direct Democracy. I think it is time we start to think about putting this to some sort of experimental trial, especially after the recent 9% turnout in a Coventry ward.

As for spelling labor my phone is set to English(USA) but I suspect that was your free hit so let's move on...
I asked a question which you have not answered. What has labor done that is positive for Coventry?
If it is a difficult question to answer then kindly avoid it and leave it to someone who will have a go.
Your response was excuses as to why labor is moribund and did not give one instance where there was a labor initiative that benefited Coventry.
You get another free hit stating my views are decades out of date. As stated I haven't lived in Coventry since 1978.

Thank you CVD but the motor industry was in decline long before Thatcher. The blame may well rest with Heath but from my memory as a teenager my father was on strike for monthas at a time. Never in Winter though! Funny that....
