I think now is not the time to judge actions of anybody with responsibility , that time is when the final whistle blows so to speak , it’s a no win for anyone here ,terrible what has happened and will happen , we just need to get through it play your part and at the end when hope to god it comes soon then point fingers , there is no conspiracy here

No, you can talk about it when you want and in particular raise the issues that are live now (PPE or if we were breaching ICU/ventilator capacity etc) but I’m just saying you can’t make sweeping statements on the governments overall performance when we don’t know the outcome. As I say you may be right but you also might be wrong, only time will tell

Actually I can. If I was making it up you'd have a point.

Kier Starmer is going to be leader in about a week.

Also how would the person who was right about the need for properly equipped and funded public services be a disaster?
I'm not saying it's not been underfunded. But to constantly blame everything on the Tories is fucking boring. Half this lot on here dont really give a fuck. Its just political point scoring. If the labour party didn't resemble a left wing squatters rights party then we wouldn't have to vote these cunts in every 4 years.

You are half right. The opposition is pathetic. But if you don't allocate responsibility to the people responsible for running the country, I'm not sure who you do allocate responsibility to, unless you go down your route and just blame the dirty Chinese and immigrants for everything.

Ah, I see you've chosen answer 2 from the repertoire of stock responses.

1. "Its not the right time to talk about it"
2. "Labour would have been worse"
3. "Would you rather live in Italy"
4. "Its all down to the Chinese immigrants"

I'm sure you're about to stun me with an eloquent response now...
Wtf are you on about? Would I rather live in Italy? I've no clue what your on about.

Personally I think that any life that is lost due to incompetence is one too many, the only one mouthing off and point scoring here is you.

You realise who has been in power the last ten years right? People aren’t complaining about the Tories because they’re mean old lefties, but because they’re actually in charge.

And considering the Tories have been more completely taken over by their looney fringe than Labour ever were (case in point: no one nation Tories left, lots of blairites left), not sure your “but I want a non looney party” argument holds much water either.

What's the alternative? The loony left labour party? Fucking hell yes the Tories arent the best Corbyn and co would be a fucking disaster.

Impossible to say. But chances are they would be looking to give the NHS and other services what they need more than the Tories. Biggest fear would be the health workers union as well as others using it as a massive bargaining chip later on when the crisis is over and causing problems. Although they may well still do that.

I think the biggest problem for the Tories will be the economic situation that follows from this, as that's supposedly their strong point. Could lose some of their traditional voters as well as their recently acquired Labour voters. But as I say they've got pretty much a full term to ride this out.

Part of me things they'll use this as an excuse to get Brexit extended indefinitely so it remains an issue next time around and they can go through the same playbook.

The dirty Chinese? They fucking started this shit and now thousands are dieing because of them. What's immigration got to do with it? Stock response from the loony left.

Public Health England today expended testing capacity from 1 to 12 dedicated laboratories. So thats good news. Then you look at some other countries.. Germany has 174, South Korea has 96.

Its hard to not believe there may be an element of truth to this, we can't be this stupid, inept and incompetent can we?

You can have as many labs as you like, but they aren’t much help if you can’t get the equipment.

This is the point. If it was someone else in power making the same mistakes, they'd get the same. But they're not. And haven't been for a decade.

Yes the stock response- "its not the right time to talk about this now."

You keep saying we can’t compare other countries but that is nonsense as in the end we will have to to evaluate what everyone did well and what went wrong

But it was austerity that caused the underfunding of the NHS austerity was a political choice based on political desire for a small government and a faulty Harvard professors spreadsheet.

Squatters rights? What is it about saying we need to properly fund all public services that is squatters rights?

No it's not it's you lot wanking each other off again about the Tories. If your party werent such a joke then maybe the working class might vote for them again. You think I wanna vote tory? There the better of two evils.

I don't think a party exists that would suit your view of the world, not that hasn't been shut down anyway.

I was under the impression austerity was done to the mess the labour party left the country in. We have to pay are way though surely. Hopefully after this shite has ended the Tories have got the kick up the arse they need to fund it properly.

Indeed we will but each country is made up differently. Different age distributions, different populations and population densities, different cultural habits/underlying health of the population. Pollutant levels may also be a factor given it's a respiratory disease. Potentially even the climate could be a factor.

What one country does successfully may have been a disaster elsewhere. So while there will inevitably be comparison, the huge amount of uncontrollable variables will compromise it.

So you are saying that ignoring and then lying about equipment procurement schemes, failing to communicate clearly, herd immunity, failing to equip health workers, failing to increase test levels and lying about it etc are somehow due to the air quality in the UK? Righto, glad thats cleared up. I was beginning to think they were just incompetent.

It’s a bit rich though to say if one life was lost through incompetence then governments should fall - then every European country will have new governments will they not?

The mess the labour party left us in? It was a global financial crisis started in the US when they repealed Glass-Steagal and the following pushing of sub prime leaning which then went bad. These sub prime loans were then packaged as derivatives which were somehow given AAA ratings by the credit ratings agencies and sold to other banks worldwide which spread the financial contagion. This reduced liquidity 8n the financial markets and a restriction of credit triggering a global recession.

Forgive me but what part did labour play in that?

The most recent poll had the Tories st the most popular they have ever been at 55% of the electorate

Just think of all those oap Brexit voters that have died. I'm sure you've raised a glass or two?

That's what we were told. Until all of a sudden everything was fine and austerity was over. Done. Then in an inordinately short period of time we've managed to find a magic money tree to fund all sort of stuff for Johnson and seemingly sprouted a small wood in a few weeks after the budget to support businesses affected by this crisis.

Businesses which the government aren't wholly responsible for - £££
Public services which the government are - ........
