I'm a member of a web forum for NHS procurement people, some of the really banal practicalities really bring it home to you. Somebody has put a post on asking if anybody knows any suppliers of body bags, as NHS Supply Chain (DHL) hasn't got any in stock.

We will see, don’t fall for feeling sorry for the lame duck, 10 years of neglect and austerity will be paid for.
Especially when they start reducing the NHS again.

Unless popular opinion is persuaded that it could be better managed and resourced under a private insurance system...

Im willing to let it take the Pepsi challenge against literally every other healthcare system in the world on a per capita cost basis and see who thinks that afterwards.

I suspect the mere mention of the words “US style healthcare” will be enough for most people.

I've lost all faith in the numbers being sufficient to persuade the populace

When a Tory PM is out clapping the NHS it’s not about numbers. Anyone arguing for a change will need to have some proof though, and I’m confident they won’t find it. The emotional tie to the NHS after this will be huge. From national religion to cult.

Apparently in Westminster the populist view is seen as “fund the NHS and hang the pedos”, if there’s one thing you shouldn’t have to worry about with a populist government it’s selling off the NHS anyway. That was Labours biggest strategic mistake last election. Hanging everything on an idea that didn’t seem credible to most because they knew they’d never vote for a party that sold off the NHS.

How many on here have an under lying health issue out of curiosity? I’m asthmatic and hoping to not pick this virus up

I bet quite a lot of people are. I'm type 2 diabetic. There's pretty much nothing wrong with me these days on a day to day basis (although still medicated at the moment), but if I was unlucky with this I'd be classed as having an underlying issue. The mortality rate for those with diabetes is quite scary too.

Which is why the unfolding disaster in the US should be the final nail in that particular coffin. The more people here understand the US healthcare system, the safer the NHS.

This has to be the point where society realises what is important.

These people will organise believe me along with nurses and the lower paid hospital workers, already happening.

I hope that includes delivery drivers, warehouse staff and retail workers as well. Real chance for some good old fashioned solidarity right now. Not sure the current unions are up to the job mind.

No one is touching the NHS after this.

Have you not seen the anti-NHS propaganda already being touted by people like Isobel Oakeshott? The narrative is already being prepared for us all- “the NHS is not equipped, it can’t cope, we need to improve it”- and ‘improve’ means privatise. In fairness she got ripped to shreds along with the others, but that’s the agenda and they won’t stop.

One thing I hope that comes out of this is edgy shock jock columnists like Toby Young and Brendan O’Neil stop getting attention and are exposed for the ludicrous contrarians they are. Ideally some of the loonier left as well.

The evidence is already there, look at some of the places that voted Tory because they got convinced brexit what was they wanted even though it will clearly put large swathes of the places on the dole. The largest, best equipped and well oiled social media machine will have people looking back fondly at the NHS but accepting that it’s time for an “upgrade”.

My wife works in childcare. She's in charge of children's lives for minimum wage. It's shocking really, but nurseries run at pretty minimal profits due to the ratio's they have to keep and the incredibly low level of funding they receive from the government for those getting free childcare (anyone over 3, plus a percentage of over 2's).

Isn’t she shagging fellow dickhead Richard Tice? Who happens to be doing the same.

that’s the one.
Anyone would think all those guys had something to gain from it. Tice is also slating the government and Toby Young is saying the government is overreacting. They’re all fucking crazy

Isobel Oakeshott is starting to appear on all sorts of discussion shows along with that garbage Peter Hitchins who on Piers Morgan’s morning show was suggesting a lot of this virus issue was exaggerated and you are correct the “establishment” are gearing up for the aftermath but very wary at the moment. They know their world won’t be the same again

yeah saw that- they’re trying to influence and manipulate while the population is at its most vulnerable and pliable to believe things they wouldn’t normally believe. In the same way they taught masses to be afraid of immigrants, they will prey on nerves and teach people to fear ‘the NHS not being enough any more’ Farage was saying that for months already.
