On this day 73 years ago my Dad gave me the best ever birthday present. He took me to Highfield Road for the very first time and so started a longtime affinity the my beloved Coventry City. Obviously I can't remember it vividly but I do know the we beat Swansea 3 - 2. Since that day I have experienced many highs and lows in following the City. My first disappointment came in 1952 when we were relegated. not many high points in the 50's, maybe the brief excitement of Jesse Carver and George Raynor bringing new ideas. Then in 1959 after 7 long seasons and a visit to the newly formed 4th div, I experienced my first promotion but can still recall my dad saying we've only gone from being rubbish to poor. Then as a teenager I experienced the worst day of my life seeing us get stuffed at home by Kings Lynn. But good came out of that disappointment with the start of the SKY BLUE ERA. Thanks Jim for such wonderful memories. Two rapid promotions (64 and 67) and then those long glorious (and often stressful ) seasons in the top flight which finally came to and end in 2001. From then, well we all know what has happened since then. I now live abroad so don't get to see my favourite team very often, but last year I did manage a visit to the Ricoh and took my 8 year old great grandson to his first match. Let's hope he takes after me. As I've said. living abroad, means that I rely on this site for info and match reports. So many thanks to all who contribute

In summary I've seen 4 relegations and 4 promotions. Keeping my fingers crossed for the 5th promotion.

He was always very negative about the team... if we were winning he'd say that the other side would score soon... if we were losing he'd say that the floodgates were about to open.

A notable high point in the 50's was that for a spell we had the current England goalkeeper, Reg Matthews, who played 5 times for England during 1956. Remarkable when you think about it. A great memory for me as he was a friend of my Auntie Bett and took my autograph album with him and collected all the players' signatures.

Totally agree my friend. I hope that all the younger fans can experience the highs that I have. One day the Phoenix will rise. hopefully this season can be completed with our promotion and that can be the start of the upward path.

Yep....Gotta say I well impressed with the yoots at away games......plenty in number & generate a cracking atmosphere.....and like you say, most of them have only seen us play in the lower half of the championship or lower....

...I didn't even mind getting covered in lager at half-time at Rochdale.....mainly cos it wasn't my lager.

The upward path started on a warm day at Wembley a few years ago my friend. Cov qualifying for and winning a playoff for the first time in the near 20 years we have been in the FL and this season perhaps the first time we’ll have won a division since 1967.

Corona will be gone eventually and when it has we can celebrate twice as hard

Its my Dads 91st birthday today and although hes not a football fan he does like to know how Cov are doing often asking how Cov done and when I say they won he usually replies "bloody hell were they playing the blind " gotta love him though..

My Grandad used to say things like that when I was a kid. I’d say to him (this was the mid sixties) ‘do you fancy coming up to see the City this weekend?’ and he’d reply ‘why would I do that? They didn’t come and see me when I was bad!’ On Saturday morning, he would say ‘come on then, let’s get going’, and we’d be there at 12.15 when the gates opened.

I’m 28. Just about recall a couple of PL games, the first being a 1-1 draw with Spurs in 1998 and the second Chelsea in 2000 when we drew 2-2 and Tore Andre Flo scored both for Chelsea.
