Anyone listened to the Bristol city captain recording going around on WhatsApp just now regarding the EFL meeting?

High level summary is...

- Season unlikely to finish
- Jan 21 start for next season
- Top three clubs promoted
- no relegation
- More teams relegated after next season to balance leagues out
- Vote on if players will play after June Without pay for out of contract players.

To be confirmed at another meeting but this is the proposal.

City would be promoted.

I’ll take that ‘if it’s true,
Couldn’t care less when next season starts, so long as it starts with us in the Championship.

So the season would start at a point when it would ordinarily be halfway through. And no-one can see a knock-on problem from this?

If we can't play until Jan then that'd be just under a year from when it was postponed. So just carry on from where we are now.

If football is not going to be played until Jan 21 then all kinds of problems will follow. Euro 2020 to be played next summer, existing player contracts ending in June next year, the Premier league possibly having extra teams. This will take some sorting out.

I thought that as well. I think personally season will start late next season, no cup competitions so season finishes on time prior to euro 2020 (21)

I have my doubts Euros will happen unless there’s a significant improvement in vaccines and treatments, without that I just can’t see vast movement of spectators from all over Europe happening or even allowed.

Not sure that all adds up. Can't complete this season because we've lost 8 weeks but can lose 24 weeks next season and play a complete season with more teams?

And if this season is being called why does it matter about player contracts past June? You either sign players for next season or you don't - same as every other year.

Seems daft starting a new season in January when we haven't finished this one. More worrying, how many relegation places would that be next season and how on earth do they fit in the extra games that an inflated (27 team?) division would bring? How many relegation places? If we have to finish 7th from bottom rather than 4th from bottom to stay up next season, I don't think that being promoted is worth it.

If we stay in League 1 we will be financially worse off as The Championship would produce more TV money. Players wages are likely to be more realistic/subdued, due to the coronavirus effect on clubs overall, so even if we were relegated i would expect us to be in a stronger position as a club by the end of 20/21 season than if we stayed in L1 for that season.

Yeah, it’d be much better to stay in League 1 and lose our best players and then be reliant on the reduced income from St Andrews.
Even if we were relegated from the Championship we would be in a much healthier position compared to another season in League 1 and facing a rebuilding job.

I think it’s actually a great opportunity. Go up to a championship that contains Barnsley, Wigan, Luton, Charlton etc but no Leeds or West Brom. Still only 24 games if they bring 3 from league 1 and send 3 to PL so it gives us a fighting chance to stay up.

Whoever is running the ricoh will be desperate for us back when the crowds are allowed in. Get us up. I’ll accept missing out on that promotion game and party if it gives the club a fighting chance of a decent future.

I think it’s a key moment for us, not to be dramatic but I genuinely think we’d face a relegation battle should we have to stay in League 1 again. Not wanting to go up because there are more relegation places is crazy.

I suppose financially, yeah. Just a real pisser to finally get back to The Championship with a massively reduced chance of survival (which was always gonna be really tough anyway).

Just listened and he say no fans until Jan 2021...so presumably behind closed doors if they sort out the testing/safety?

They'd already said all that anyway.

Not really much new in the recording I don't believe apart from the non relegation but it's all "this might happen etc." nothing definitive.

If we can yo yo and establish ourselves it’d be much better. This is the reality as there’s now a lot more money in the Championship too.
