Big piece in Mail on Sunday today about chances of Premier League finishing
Ends by saying 95% chance L1 & 2 won't

My da said that on the BBC last night there was something about Cov and a decision being made about League 1 soon? He seemed to think that we’d be awarded the title.

The Premier League, which has £millions of potential lost revenue at stake, still hasn't agreed a plan, which involves playing all games on a limited number of grounds with no team having home advantage. About 300 players, support staff, media hangers on etc. would have to be tested before each game. Meanwhile L1and L2 clubs are saying they will not pay out-of-contract players beyond July.

I think the chances of L1and L2 seasons being played out is very slim even if that means I have to agree with the MoS

I think they are probably correct
In my view there is zero chance of the EFL season restarting.

If they re start the Premier League, without relegation as is being suggested, then what is the point. There will be nothing to play for in the majority of games and all integrity will be lost.

Frankly the Mail in Sunday know about as much as the “I’ve heard from a reliable source...” brigade on here!

It’s less than 5% in all probability

Yes not exactly what the remaining £750M TV money was for.
Might as well show lower level pre season friendlies .

If you factor in the reluctance of extremely wealthy player's not wishing or needing to play there may be more chance of lower league ballers who need the bunce turning out on TV .
Massive implications as to whether the top leagues in current form have a future at all .
Like most other businesses.

A league is based on home and away games. Itis shot to pieces if they play out on neutral grounds. With no relegation and Liverpool tbf champions already how many teams will be motivated? Is it therefore worth the risk? I think not.
Why oh why will these dumb football authorities not get their heads out of the sand.

Is that actually what they're proposing ?

Is there any indication of when something is going to get announced?
For anyone in the last year of a contract it expires 30 June. You need 4-6 weeks to complete games and most people agree a mini pre-season will be needed so surely something has to be decided pretty soon even if its just to address the issue of expiring contracts and if the transfer window is opening as usual.

So if the Premier League completes the season and the EFL don't, what will happen about relegation from the PL assuming the EFL were to void the season?
League football only exists for the supporters, and I can see the logic in completing a season behind closed doors but I can't see the logic in starting a new season BCD, especially if it is likely to be at least half through before anyone is allowed to go to games. It makes so much more sense to finish this season somehow by May next year. The PL may decide to play the remainder of this season, and half of next BCD but this is purely driven my money.
I'm fairly sure the EFL would prefer to do this. It may be that it can be completed by September BCD, and decisions can then be made about next season based on knowledge at that time.
If this season hasn't been completed by then, and it is still looking like January for crowds to come back, abandon next season and complete this one instead. The PL slots in European football can be decided on sporting merit if they can't complete this season, and player contracts wouldn't need extending unless both parties agreed, the window could open and close based on restart date.
Clubs in financial difficulties would need some kind of help to survive, but that's the case whatever the scenario.

In that were to happen most league clubs would go out of business and unable to pay players.

But if the void this season and clubs have to play next season BCD until at least January won't that happen anyway?
I guess they could make money from ifollow, sponsorship, Sky etc...huge gaps would ultimately lead to more clubs going out of business

I think if the season is declared null and void and there were to be no promotion nor relegation ( ie, the worst possible outcome)
then the following season should be started with the club that finished bottom on zero points and each team above on + whatever extra points they are currently ahead, plus the goal difference .
In other words we begin top with a 5 point headstart on second place.
As for games in hand, give us 3 extra points !

I think plenty of footballers themselves will have something to say about being 'forced' back to play out a season while the vast majority of the public are unable to attend and safety concerns still exist to their and families well being.
Money can't be the motivator here above the health of people.

Lets just concentrate on next season and be ready to go. This season just can't in any shape or form come back and be competative in the right circumstances. If we were 10 games in then voiding would be the answer but as we have 9 games left then it should be cancelled now and promotion awarded as is. Mitigate this by no relegation seems a fair way to go about things surely?

I would say this even if we were mid table. It's just the sensible thing to do and lets hope we can start a new season before Christmas. Some clarity to work toward at least.

Yes, I think without bums on seats and match day revenue, the only way realistically would be to allow pay-per-view or some kind of half-season subscription using Sky. Think I've said elsewhere how I personally think this could be done. Just need to ensure player safety somehow and, of course, player willingness to take part.

From a players perspective why will it be safer to play in August?

Bolton and Southend deserve to go down every bit as much as we deserve to go up. Any cancellation outcome that involves them avoiding relegation will be a travesty.

Not long to go - decision will be accelerated as we get close to the PL start day proposal - personally I think we are at the mercy of a vote - no play until at least September and it will be a new season but I sincerely hope the right decision is made that puts us in the Championship where we belong right now

The weeks are flying back in lockdown and mentally I feel OK. The death numbers are dropping and European countries that 4 weeks ago were recording over 1k deaths a day are now reducing lockdown and easing opening their world again... This should be a time now to see the light at the end of the tunnel and yet all I see is darkness.

Travesty it will be I'm afraid. There is absolutely not a chance in hell that EFL will award either promotion or relegation based on either current positions or PPG. Everybody (those that can survive financially) will be restarting in the same division they started this season in. God only knows when football (or any sport) will resume.
The PL, on the other hand as we know, is an entirely different animal.

Its going to be interesting thats for sure. If govt allows footy bsck with testing etc i guess personal issue over safety are no longer enough

Sure you can refuse to play and be sacked. But you prob wont win a legal case if you appeal
