Its going to be interesting thats for sure. If govt allows footy bsck with testing etc i guess personal issue over safety are no longer enough

Sure you can refuse to play and be sacked. But you prob wont win a legal case if you appeal
The big issue is that the PL games will almost certainly have to be played at neutral venues and everyone involved will need to be continually tested
It will cost a fortune and even so the clubs near the bottom are threatening to torpedo it unless there is no relegation
The more you think about it the harder it is to see how L1 and 2 can take place if the same conditions are to apply

Haha so they want to complete the season but scrap relegation? What a farce!
If it was cov in that position we wpuld say same no?

Losing home advantage during the run in. Risking relegation so i understand those saying play home and away or scrap relegation if you want us to do it your way

The premier league season will start again last week in May or first in June I would think. Government/Premier league is just waiting for Germany to start playing again. The Italian players are also back training with a view to finishing their season. EFL keep saying the plan is to finish the season so have to take them at their word until they say otherwise.

Travesty it will be I'm afraid. There is absolutely not a chance in hell that EFL will award either promotion or relegation based on either current positions or PPG. Everybody (those that can survive financially) will be restarting in the same division they started this season in. God only knows when football (or any sport) will resume.
The PL, on the other hand as we know, is an entirely different animal.
FACT*

*not a fact

I predict Boris will make an announcement in the next week saying no sport of any kind until (say) 1st September
That will keep it simple and the PL and EFL will then have to decide if they void the season, promote and relegate under PPG rules or promote but don't relegate.

If that happened as you say I’m certain this season would just continue on the date set, get completed a couple of weeks grace and then new season would commence probably some time in October.

The Premier League has £800million at stake and can't agree on how to restart. They're going to spend £4m on tests alone. Imagine how many tests would be needed for the entire EFL to get back going. I'm sorry, but I just can't see the seasons resuming in the lower leagues. Hopefully we follow France by deciding the leagues as well as pro/rel on sporting merit.

I do think that to void a season entirely would be so wrong.
Clubs, fans and so many others involved have spent their money and want their pound of flesh in return.

It goes without saying, at some point the authorities (government and sporting) will have to make a decision - That doesn't necessarily mean it will be the 'correct' one.
Seriously - Prepare for disappointment.

I can’t see them cancelling it. For every dramatic story by one person In sky sports saying it should be cancelled due to Simple self gain I bet there are more than 90% in the lower leagues saying we should play.

Oliver Holt wrote a good piece last week about this saying it’s wrong to cancel the season and allow the small few to be allowed to press the re set button due to their failures this season (West Ham and Brighton) and stop the clubs from being rewarded that deserve reward (Liverpool, WBA and Coventry) due to self indulgence and stopping clubs and people earn what is rightfully theirs when they as people and clubs failed. What’s it it say about them as people?

This season has to finish and if that impacts next season or a cancellation of some competitions then so be it. If that also impacts CCFC’s promotion this season then so be it but the integrity of the competition must be in my opinion played to the full as best as possible.

Despite your bluster about get the champagne out it’s always dependant on the PL allowing 2 clubs from the championship in. If not it’s game over

Just been said on radio 5 Germany have re-started training in the last couple of weeks three Cologne players have gone down with Coronavirus, not serious apparently but bound to have an influence any decision the Bungasliga make.

The PL have already mentioned if that happens and seem to think it’d all just carry on and they’d treat it like any other injury. I’m not surprised some players aren’t happy about the whole situation and being forced to play.

Been thro this thread (and several similar before), and I thought
  • The odds on the season being completed are getting longer - having been 50/50 at the start. must now be 10/90
  • Players possibly a big factor that could trump ££'s
  • Stop whinging about ££'s. This a business not charity. It has been decided by money ever since the game went professional at the end of the 19th C. Why do you think big clubs win? They have money. That there are occasional exceptions doesn't change the rule. If you had £millions of commitments you would want some way of playing the game - perfectly rational.
  • Don't rule out the French PPG system - it seemed fair and if it catches on could be the European norm
  • The Germans are re-starting - it then becomes a matter of national honour. Govt is keen for sport to re-start some way
  • The horse racing industry are close to finding a way of working - that could create a template.
Sport is not alone, you have challenges for all close contact activity - transport, cinema. Once a method is locked in others will replicate it. I expect the remainder to be cancelled, and it is down to whether a PPG system is used. Who knows?

Do you think they should still be paid say £350,000 a week if they don’t play or except the furlough payment only?

That's not a bad shout
The firm I work for has most staff working from home but has started to plan for their return as they are in distribution so can be classed as key workers
I know some of the staff are trying to find a way to get out of returning
It's human nature
Some people are bold and have a can do attitude
Others are the opposite

Horse racing isn’t comparable to football - it is essentially non contact and therefore easier to facilitate a return. Also it does not attract partisan supporters like football does who follow a certain trainer or horse and has no risk of gatherings outside

They should have the option to not play but get paid less, IMO

Chris Sutton discussed this the other day and he said effectively then players should not play until a vaccine? So why are they such precious people when minimum wage supermarket people still work?

That’s a fair point, one is an essential service though but of course it highlights the absurdity of footballers’ pay and status.

It highlights the fact you take your choice. The reality is a football has a very low chance of death - it’s about as much chance as the Tottenham player who once died from a bolt of lightening when playing golf. Players can choose but one option can’t be to keep getting paid stupid money while isolating in 6 acre gardens. All contracts should be cancelled if they refuse to play. Actors and performers will not be paid without performing

Said this the other day after the PL meeting. Why are extra measures being put in place for PL footballers that aren't required for someone working minimum wage in a supermarket or warehouse?

I would imagine most who are against playing could well have someone high risk at home. That’s the only thing that would put me off, personally.

It’s a contractual issue. So if you say drop Harry Kane’s wages of £200k per week then he can leave on a free transfer. The football bodies need to get their heads together or it’s going to be a very problematic situation

I think if they were suddenly on a £2,000 a month furlough arrangement they’d turn up to play
