Out of contract (4 Viewers)

According to Transfer-market we have a number of players who will be out of contract in June. Im guessing most would have been offered a new contract subject to what league we are in. But who would you keep and who would you let go. I think its pretty simple in the most parts.

Dominic Hyam. Signed 2 years in December
Junior Brown
Charlie Wakefield
Jordan Young
Zain Westbrooke
Jodi Jones Signed 1 year extension
Reise Allassani
Amadou Bakayoko
Jordy Hiwula

Didn't Hyam sign a contact until 2021 with an option of another year in December?
Plus Jodi signed a contract recently for another season.

I would keep the above 2 plus Westbrooke.

The rest release.

Keep

Hyam
Westbrooke
Jones

Baka ( could sell for a fee even if minimal instead of free)

Fuck the rest off

That’s not right. Jones signed a one year and think Hyam signed two years

Maybe they only update it once a year or so. So doesn't show contract extensions. Will have a look in to it

Edit* You are correct

Hyam is 2 years. Jones was 1 year.

Added Hiwula as he is out of contact but got missed of my list

Don't know enough about Young but you'd think him, Westbrooke and Wakefield would be fairly straightforward negotiations if Robins wants to keep them. No really anyone on that list you'd be devastated to lose.

Apart from Hyam and Jones, Westbrooke is the only one I would offer another contract. There will plenty of better players available to replace the others. I'm glad that we got Hyam tied up early which is something we've often failed to do in the past.

I would keep Baka. He's not a starter, but has always offered something off the bench + you never know he might turn into the kind of striker he should be. Would take him over Hiwula every day

Against stronger, faster and more technically and tactically astute defenders, Bakayoko will be a doddle to deal with if we are to be promoted. I think it's clear that the Championship would be a step too far for him, especially when at times he struggled in L1.

If we are promoted Westbrooke only will stay

Maybe Young based on performances at u23 level, if they think he has a future. Don't think Wakefield & Allassani have done enough to earn longer stays. Hiwula is definitely gone. Bakayoko I could see staying if we have an option on him (maybe to loan back into League One and see if he develops).

Hard to believe how quickly Hiwula down the pecking order in all your thoughts. He had a horrendous spell jist prior to being dropped, but times this season I'd like to have seen him back in with a chance. Still feel he has something to offer.

Get the feeling that when the chips were down for him he responded in exactly the wrong way in Robins eyes and he's done here

I was viewing the question from Robins perspective - he doesn’t rate him and that is that - I would say offer him a deal but it’s not happening

Seems like Hiwula has sulked since he lost his place, which has helped MR decide to put him behind Biamou and Bakayoko, as well as Godden. Since he lost his place I don't think the team have missed him at all. We need to move on, and so does he. He will probably find another League 1 team that will be happy to take him on.

I’d be amazed if we offer Baka a contract on promotion. He’s been a decent squad player and stepped up in the second part of the season when called upon but he is nowhere near a Championship level for me. I expect all will be released who are out of contract. Westbrook’s extension will be triggered.

People forget how young Baka is, I'd extend and send him out on loan.

He's 24 and has played 150+ games in the Football League so he isn't inexperienced. For context Godden has played about the same amount of Football League games. Baka isn't going to be good enough for the Championship. He's unconvincing at best in League 1.

I like Baka but I think it’s be best for all concerned if he found a L1 side that will play him every week. I think he’s got the right attributes to be a decent player at that level. I’m not even sure Godden is going to be good enough to lead the line in the Championship so it’ll probably be one from Godden, Max and a new guy.

Westbrooke Id keep. The rest can go. We’ll need a decent overhaul of the squad next season so standards have to be high.

Baka has got as much chance making it in the Championship as Godden

I would let the rest go I don’t think Westbrooke will be physical enough for the championship and the rest didn’t play on league one or didn’t pull any trees

Baka played well against blues in my opinion. Especially in the second leg and he set up that golden chance for O'hare in the first leg. For sure he wouldn't start in the Champ but I think he's definitely got something to offer.

Robins tried to ship him out on loan to a L2 side late on deadline day but the lad knocked it back
The coaching staff and young players thought he wasn't trying a leg in the U23 games
That's not going to go down well with Viveash and MR

Played well in two games - cup games I might add where lets be honest anything can happen and where Birmingham didn't exactly flatter to deceive. I might sound harsh and I don't want to take anything away from his performances as I also thought he played OK, but over the course of a season and against better sides I just can't see him performing to a consistent level where he warrants a place in a Championship squad - if we are to go up that is. Like I said he's struggled more often than not in L1 when he's played so from that I think it's safe to say he would struggle to make the step up on a consistent basis.

Surprised a League One side didn't come in on a loan for him. Can clearly score goals at this level.

Yes looked woeful games I seen him at under 23 level but games like blues first leg for example you can see if he can apply himself a bit more he has all the attitudes to be successful

A shame that we shelled out for Baka and Hiwulla to end up letting them go for nothing but neither’s worked out. Still think Hiwulla could score ample enough in L1 though

You win some you lose some I guess. I think hiwulla would score goals in league 1 if his mind was right but I'd say once you cross Mark Robins there really isn't any coming back from that. He probably wouldn't be good enough for the championship anyway I'd say league 1 at best
