‘If’ we are promoted what do we need to compete in Championship? (2 Viewers)

Bartlett and Newton. Strictly speaking Rose was signed in the 2019 transfer window.

Didnt Rose sign a pre contract so wouldn’t have actually been registered until the Summer ‘19 window? If we’re being pedantic.

I want to see how Pask and Jobello do. Both have potential to be Championship players IMO but seen so little of them to properly judge.

Maybe a cheeky bid for Jordan Willis? :D
What you seen of either that made you think championship quality?

Certainly don’t see it with jobello haven’t seen much of the other guy

Not enough. As I said. Pask came from a good background with a good pedigree but was trying to break into a solid back three and seemed OK at RWB, I’d like to see how we gets on in the Championship with another year of development.

Jobello looked promising just before his injury IMO.

Im not saying either is Championship quality, I’m saying I’d like to see how they get on.

Who pissed on your cornflakes this morning?

With so many players being out of contract this summer we might pick up a few and in 12 months be back in the premier ship now that would be some turn around

Our poor spell coincided when Jobello got injured before the Rotherham game... and we only got out of this 'slump' at half time in the Fleetwood game when we went 3 at the back.

I actually thought he was starting to kick in, and he was beginning to do the dirty work getting back. The only issue is now the formation does not suit a winger in his mould.

It was just a question

Pask may have the potential

And i liked jobello but not sure about the step up

As always I trust in MR

Its great to have optimism but blind loyalty to players will hurt us thats all. Not syaing neither are good enough

Whatever happens I trust the Badlan, Robins, Vivesh and the rest have been working on players for a long time and are ready to pull the trigger on any targets should we get the promotion.

Also let's not forget we have Kastaneer to come back in....
Kastaneer wont be here

Marosi, Dabo, Rose, Hyam will be fine - all young (for a keeper) and looked very good in L1.

Everywhere else, loans aside, I have question marks. Not to say they can’t but they’d have to take their games to another level.

Hyam will be sound I feel quick enough & reads the game well

He's got something different if he was available for not a lot of cash and would be decent cover

Interesting one, I always thought Willis would work really well at the right of a back 3 because he’s got experience of playing at RB as well and would be used to defending in wide areas, as well as the electric turn of pace.

No chance it’s happening though, not good enough on the ball.

Wonder if Robins will keep the 3-5-2 formation? We do have some players that might not fit into that system coming back (Jones & Jobello), and would Championship teams cut through us more easily? Would assume Robins will keep the 1 up front. Would like to keep Max, as he will be useful squad player, but Baka and Hiwula will probably not make the step up. Will Godden be the main man? If so, and we need another striker (proven championship) he will want to be first choice...Our midfield will need work too if we're not keeping O'Hare & Walsh.

Willis is not the player he was. Injury prone so not for us. Think what we have there is better. Also think quite a few players have developed the last few seasons and are stepping up naturally. O'Hare is easily championship quality but can't understand why Villa are not giving him a contract as they will be championship with us next season? Allen is the type to flourish along with Dabo, Morosi, our centre pairing but we may need to replace Walsh and Kelly. A tough ball winner and a visionary type with bags of energy to run midfield. Up top biamou could be a surprise and Godden can made the step up but feel we will need a more experienced striker at this level or a premiership loanee to score the goals we will need. others in our squad, the likes of Jodi Jones may well turn into great assets.
Just think we need to tinker with around a bit and we will be alright. Our style of play, with players having grown into Robins philosophy will beat many teams in the Championship.

WASP will be needing our money and a deal will surely get struck now. The rent will obviously increase for the Championship as will the footfall. My main concern will be the pitch which is crucial to our playing style and reason why we have done well at Birmingham.

I think for left back we may look at Luke Garbutt who’s been on loan at Ipswich this season and is bizarrely still contracted to Everton at 27 until the end of the season

Villa have a player who’s 4 years younger playing in the same position in the same league as O’Hare. Their CEO said they want the best teenagers at their club and not to keep players who don’t have much of a chance who should be playing first team football elsewhere

I’m concerned about the lack of pace with McFadz, so another CB plus a LWB a CM and Striker.
I think we need to be careful about ensuring any player joining this squad fits in. We don’t need any maverick big heads.

You know what clear as day the biggest thing we need is to play in our City

Only if they a) sort the pitch and b) we don;t have to pay over the odds to play at The Ricoh. Would be gutted to have to go into The Championship and try to play on the pitch as it was before we left (and it's got worse since).

Agree with a lot of this. For what it's worth, I always rated Willis for his pace. That being said in the system we play we need players who are very comfortable on the ball; not sure Willis falls into that category. A fully fit Jodi Jones in the right system would be brilliant.

We need more pace at the back, I don't think Mason is Championship standard so would replace him,, obviously need to replace Walsh and O'Hare, Marcus Maddison is available for free from Peterborough. I'm not convinced on Shipley, but would give him a season, keep Godden as a back up, but sign at least one more striker. Baka, Hiwula, Kastaneer not good enough.

A lot of clubs will be suddenly be losing a hell of a lot of money, so I think a lot of talented players will be available cheap, may see fringe players being allowed to leave for nothing. Top end league one players will be looking to move on too depending on how the wage cap is bought in.

I've been impressed with Mo Eisa every time I've saw him.

One things for sure with MR we won't be getting any has been journeymen looking for the last pay day.
I think MR will already have in mind who he wants and what he needs to be able to compete in the championship (when we get officially promoted), will it be like league 1?
first year assembled a team ethos of what we needed to be and do to compete, finishing just outside play offs, then 2nd year? Well we know the rest

Decent shout.

Edit: would give us a good set piece specialist as well.

At the moment these are the ones who could probably cut the mustard in the championship.

GK MM
LWB vacant
CB Rose
CB Hyam
CB vacant
RWB Dabo
Mid
Mid
Att Allen
Att Godden
Att

Will be interesting to test:

Jobello
Pask
Jones
Westbrooke
Biamou

The rest of the current squad I’m not sure will cut it.
