Maybe given his previous profile he thinks it will cajole the bigwigs to feed extra funds down and play can continue on that basis.

I don't understand the vitriol towards the likes of Palios, if I was a Tranmere fan I'd want our owners to do the same. I don't agree with the plan they've come up with but they've come up with one at least.

It has been, put in either of those scenarios its likely Tranmere will be relegated so he's decided to propose an alternative where miraculously they don't go down.
The EFL regulations state there is no requirement for clubs to get a vote on any proposal put forward by a member club so the chances of the EFL, having had this drag on for so long, deciding to add something else into the mix seems slim.

I'd want our owners to fight our corner but there's a point where you have to just accept your fate. Coming up with weird mathematical formulas, hugely extending playoffs and changing the number of teams in the divisions just to try and avoid relegation would I think be a step too far for most fans.
Not to mention the numerous clubs who are struggling financially.
He also has the cheek in the article in the Mail to complain that other clubs are prioritising their own interests!

Still don't get how some of these chairman can go on about "fairness and sporting integrity" but admit some teams will have to "give up" for financial reasons.
There's your uneven playing field with clubs that have money/external resources having an unfair advantage over others because of the COVID interference. Teams that could have continued a normal season being competitive now having to field youth & reserve players as they can't afford to extend contracts etc.

If I was a Tranmere fan I'd be annoyed they didn't pull their finger out sooner, why not present this 6 weeks ago when nothing was off the table.

Totally agree. I keep seeing comments (mainly from knuckle draggers in the north east I must admit) saying teams should have been more financially prepared. YEs that's right at the start of the season we'll budget for a global pandemic that cuts the majority of our revenue and budget to pay to test our players for something that doesn't even exist yet.

I get the claim they had been on a good run. But their last few matches they had to play from the top half

So it wasn't like they had an easy run in of teams with nothing to play for. Was most of the autos/playoffs chasing pack and teams who are sat just above them.

I'm sure they will have tried a weighted PPG calculation based on strength of opposition to play but that would have seen them relegated aswell

Most of the league predictor sites have them down at 60% + chance. Wimbledon are at around 19%.

I get people saying ‘what about the collateral damage to other clubs’, but that’s not their responsibility - their own club is.
Pretty sure in Tranmere’s position we’d be making noises too, thank god we aren’t.
It does make a mockery of the ‘sporting integrity’ line though as it’s clear as day they are all acting in self-interest and the integrity of the league is second to that. Understandably.

What happens if the additional financial pressures on clubs due to their plan causes other clubs to collapse? Won't less teams have a bigger impact on their finances than a season in L2 rather than L1?
The Huddersfield chairman was suggesting 50 to 60 clubs could be in trouble.
They should at least be honest about it and stop playing the integrity card.

Yes, its a vote to change the regulations to allow PPG first which just needs a majority across all 3 divisions. Then if that passes each division can vote on if they want to end the season now or not, assume the vote in L2 still stands so they've already decided to finish.

Perhaps teams should be more financially prepared for relegation so they don't overspend on transfers and wages requiring parachute payments?
Relegation is after all far more likely than a pandemic

Hi all... Tranmere fan in peace (Genuinely!)
Firstly, and I know this is the case for every Tranmere fan I know, we hope you get promoted and deservedly so. Under any proposal that has been put forward, including our ones, you would be and I think it is safe to say that you will be. Given the tough times you've had recently regarding club ownership and stadium issues, you guys deserve it.
The reason for us putting up a fight is that under PPG, we would be relegated by 0.04 PPG. We had just won 3 on the bounce (not THE in form team but ONE OF the in form teams in the league), we had 4 teams directly above us in our next games, we were 3 points behind AFC Wimbledon and we had a game in hand. Other info that you guys may not realise (and why should you... you don't support TRFC!) is that we invested in January and had a squad that was now just starting to gel. We have just had two promotions on the spin and adjusting to life in League One was always going to be hard. Trust me there is a huge gap between playing North Ferriby and Coventry! It was always the plan to start off the season, assess in January, then add some transfers in Jan. Coupled with that we had a decent Cup run which involved replays creating a lot of fixtures in that busy Winter period.
I get that the League table doesn't lie. After 34/35 games we deserve to be in the bottom 3. However teams constantly make come backs late on in the season. You just have to look at last season... 3 of the bottom 4 at this stage didn't get relegated with the teams in 15th, 16th and 18th going down. Wimbledon made up a 7 point gap and Oxford went on their best run of the season. Momentum is everything at the latter stages... Less so at the top because you're there as you've played excellent footy all season but it really kicks in for a team near the bottom. Now of course there is no guarantee at all that after 44 games we would have stayed up. But there is also no guarantee that we would go down. Is 0.04 points really fair on a team to drop down a division due to a worldwide pandemic? Personally I don't think so.
Our proposals take a bit of time to understand and while they do save ourselves, they are also fairly reasonable. There is going to have to be a rule and regulation change regardless so we are just putting our case forward. Our owners have saved this club and turned it around and whilst going down wouldn't be a big issue as we would be expected to challenge straight away for promotion, it does put a tarnish on the hard work of last season in which we battled through to gain promotion.
I also don't understand the now hatred towards our club and owners from some posters. If you were in our position then you would be fighting in the exact same way (though it is true this could have all been mentioned a couple of weeks earlier).
It all comes down to the vote... I have seen the Owners of Rotherham, Peterborough, Sunderland and Accrington all say it would be unfair on us to go down and if it went to a vote whereby there would be promotion and no relegation then I think that would be the outright winner as was the case in League 2. You then just balance the league up in the course of the next couple of seasons which is seen as a result of a global pandemic. You could suspend the Checkatrade trophy (you lucky bastards would be able to send your 23s!) for one of two seasons to allow for the extra games which result in more revenue for clubs which makes up slightly for revenue lost during this current period.
Anyway regardless of what your stance on us may be, good luck with your imminent promotion and hopefully we'll be playing each other again soon. Had a great time at St Andrew's this season (Cheers for those 3 points
) and you were the best team we've seen at Prenton Park this season by a long way. All the best.

We're in a relatively stable position financially due to recent overseas investment so should be ok and whilst I hope all 72 clubs come through this unscathed, I think there will be a couple, certainly up here in the North West, that will suffer. We even managed to redo our pitch... Looking very different to when you were here in January!
Hindsight is a great thing as I'd say yes however a few weeks ago no one really had any idea on what proposals would be put out by the EFL. I think it's always just the way to be reactive rather than proactive with regards to official commitments from football clubs as seen with Hearts, Lyon over in France, AZ over in Holland and Stevenage so can't blame us for being the same.
It's one of those where if we do go down then so be it... That will be the formal decision, we all move on and get back to fighting for promotion back to League One. But if we do go down, we won't be going down without a fight!

Repeating myself but
1. Given the concerns about legal challenge Tranmere's scheme, the motivation behind which is pretty obvious, fails because it is both complex and has assumptions (3 years). But...
2. The EFL want a system that is absolutely straight forward, to avoid any doubt and hence legal challenge. PPG weighted has two variables - games played and - home and away form. PPG unweighted has only one variable - games played. To avoid legal challenge you want as few variables as possible. Complexity is bad for everyone except lawyers
3. Tranmere are clearly shifting ground, no longer to be considered part of D McA's team. They are clutching at straws
4. Rather than worrying too much about it, I am encouraged that McA's support is losing ground.
I am much more concerned by the news that the new Premier League season is planned for September. That would give DMcA much more time to play his games, because by then the risk of infection should be so much less.
