They could be pressured by the bigger clubs in League 1. Remember there are a few who will vote with the majority. If they see that the championship are playing, they may well think that we should too.

Doesn’t it benefit the smaller clubs to keep the “bigger” names in league one? Sunderland and Ipswich will bring significant numbers.

Ultimately the imbalance of tv money means teams are already releasing their retained lists. I’d bet my house that those teams are going to vote to end the season

Fingers crossed you are right. Logically it would make sense, but this is the EFL after all.

even if the timeline was possible which i dont think it is , the added regs like 5 subs mean lge 1 clubs would need 20-25 man playing squads allowing for certain number of injuries ,not viable for most clubs

I wonder if the 5 subs thing will become a permanent fixture in the game. Hope not, but I can see some arguments that it helps the players remain fresh and reduces injuries.

Dumb question here but it is the EFL who preside over the Championship? And therefore it’s them who will ultimately give the options for League 1 - a spike in infection will stop the lot for sure the ppg

3 options that I can see here.

1. We resume on 23rd/24th June (midweek) for those teams with 10 games to play. Playing 2 games a week takes you to final game weekend of 25th July. Playoffs s/f on 28th & 1st Aug. Possibly that isn't even in line with what the EFL want but pretty close.
2. We decide that (1) isn't feasible and resume a week later but with no playoffs at all - just top 3. Done and dusted on 1st August which complies with the EFL request.
3. Season ends.

There's 2 weeks from the vote for (1), and 3 weeks for (2). No doubt teams will argue that they need more than 2 weeks training, but "it is what it is" - same for everyone.

Personally I think season is done myself. 7 more days to wait peeps!

Just don't see out of contract players extending if training is as little as 2 weeks.
5 weeks training in Germany has led to a 250% increase in injuries. Players just can't afford the risk of being injured and out of contract when the new season starts.
Championship clubs already claiming about June 20th being way too early for their players and they would have been back just under a month with that restart date.

Can't see how the league can restart with players and staff still on furlough. we will be weeks behind the two leagues above. Frankly i think the Prem and Champ are being driven to start due to not wanting or being able to repay TV money if they don't. cant really see that being a factor for us. I feel like the EFL are going through the motions without any real intention of restarting L1

I mean who actually cares bar the fans of a few teams in and around the playoffs and Tranmere? No chance Sky will be showing any L1 matches bar the playoff final if there is going to be daily Champ and prem matches to air

The players can't have it all...either sign a contract and be covered, or don't sign a contract and accept the consequences.

so fatigue suggests the "preseason" wasn't long enough.
Also it's a fact that periods of fixture congestion like Xmas see a spike in injuries and players are going to have to replicate that sort of workload.
Jogging/running might be okay for the aerobic side but the muscular side will have fallen away for many players.

Going to get to the end of the season and some sides that miss out on play-offs or get relegated going to be bleating "it wasn't fair as some games had weakened sides." etc. No incentive/point in mid-table clubs in any Division overworking their players now if they've already got one eye on beginning of next season

Its all a mess. Even with this it is all about self interest and explaining why if a team gets relegated it won't be fair. There is no "fair" solution, just some that are less-fair.

It's clear that playing out the games is fairer than PPG and so on... they should just get on with it. When the EFL vote through the rule changes next week Charlton will be going down under PPG, so the only way they get out of the mess they are in is by playing. Yes it will be unfortunate not to have Lyle but many other teams will be in similar positions.

A bad injury would kibosh the move
Football is a ruthless game and I guarantee that Charlton wouldn't give a long extension in such circumstances

I don't imagine they are too concerned missing out on one pay cheque when the sign on fee alone for their new club could well be about 20x more.
