You know, 12 months ago I'd only heard of do gooder and politicallly correct .
What on earth does " woke" mean ? I keep hearing it and I haven't a clue.
Libtard? Hahaha
I thought a snowflake was someone who was a bit oversensitive and a bit of a woose.
Jesus Christ I know nothing.

Woke comes from black culture and ironically has been appropriated by the social justice crowd first then the anti social justice crowd. It just means aware of stuff like racism basically.

I can’t help but feel the culture war dragging people to polar opposites again. Same as the virus. Same as Brexit. Brexit fair enough, it’s a political debate. But shit that we basically all agree on apart from the weirdos (let’s not kill tens of thousands of people/let’s treat everyone with respect regardless of race) end up as some 50:50 battle.

Wrong labels here but those on the “right” of this aren’t all racists by any stretch, most abhor racism (though most of the racists are on that side), and most on the “left” don’t think white people should be bowing down or that all men are rapists or no one should eat jerk chicken if they’re not Jamaican or whatever and think these are patently ridiculous ideas (though most of those who buy into them are on that side).

There’s a good 60-70% of the population that get dragged into ridiculous sides they don’t really support and nothing gets done. It’s a shit show.

I know what they are but this recent “Karen” thing, I have no idea what that one is all about and who it’s insulting?

Karen is the new label for middle aged, judgemental, bigoted women.
Thankfully I am too old to fit the label.

Started out as a meme about a certain type of American woman who would ask to speak to the manager. Soccer Mom, that haircut, etc. Then taken on to as Oakey says mean bigoted middle aged white woman (the bigot thing wasn’t there at the start), some argue now just generic put down for middle aged women and hence sexist/ageist, get called Karens, and the internet outrage cycle is complete.

Some righties tend to use snowflake a lot on this board, which is ironic as those self same righties are first to complain when people don't agree, or call them a bigoted cock.

He is. He looks like a man under a lot of pressure. His voice seems weak, he's stumbling for things to say and inevitably fills the air with off the cuff nonsense. The bravado has gone. He looks like he can't cope with the set of circumstances before him .
I have to add I couldn't care less. He deserves whatever he gets.
Sounds like you’re describing Boris Johnson.

Let's get Gazolba in to tell us the old man's injuries were a combination of slipping, falling backwards and perhaps just a tiny hint of being assaulted by a police officer

That’s unfair on Gazobla. Can’t see him blaming the police at all

Spot on. Absolutely nothing will change at all .

Fear is "I Can't Breathe" becomes the new "Hands Up, Don't Shoot". A short period of anger then everything dies down again.

But with Trump in the WH, smartphones we could see flare ups happening far more regularly until it does eventually just break out into civil war. Quite a few states, esp California, have already suggested secession and it could well end up with much of the west and east coasts considering leaving.

It would be good if this was the beginning of the concerted effort to change perceptions but my instinct is that although the volcano is smoking and bubbling there is still a way to go before it actually erupts. Trouble is much of the country is ignoring the warning signs and saying there isn't a problem or anything to worry about.

It's hardly the democracy it always bangs on to the rest of the world about. Its run by one man who is the very epitomy of those dictatorships the USA tell us are evil.

Agree entirely. If you showed Trump those protests and the response of the authorities but told him it was somewhere in Africa he'd call it outrageous and say it needs democracy and regime change.

The dangers of how their local systems work I guess. The US need to look hard at how they recruit, train and punish their cops but listening to that lady on LBC it sounds a mammoth task if the elected mayors and police officials wield so much power. I feared something like this when the commissioners replaced the police authorities, thankfully they control budgets rather than the laws and policy. Shame the US can't cover everything by federal law and have juries made up of equal ethnic and gener mixes.

"Woke" means that the person saying it doesn't know how to conjugate the verb "to wake".

Brexiteer in out of touch with reality shocker.

Yes, however my intention wasn’t to highlight the brexit thing but use it to illustrate a point- I know passions run high both ways but ultimately brexit was a personal choice and plenty have logical reasons and that’s absolutely fine- my issue & problem is that nobody on the brexit side seems willing to call these thoughts out, purely because this guy is on “their team”. You could say the same with Labour and anti-semitism, I’m not singling one side out- far too many just ignore & fail to comment because the person coming out with this type of poison is on their team.

People coming out with stuff like this need to be tackled immediately, irrespective of who it is- it doesn’t mean brexit overall gets cancelled by saying this guy is a piece of shit, and it doesn’t make you wrong to have voted for it, it just means that a c**t is being called a c**t. Ignoring this stuff & looking the other way is not enough, nothing will ever change otherwise. Think it was shmmeee who said it better than I could- basically partisanship is overriding values, and that’s a huge part of the problem.

Then you have this- Gary Neville says that what is happening is unacceptable. He doesn’t abuse anyone, he just highlights all the disgusting shit happening. Sky Sports then feels the need to distance itself from what he said. Why?

Thing is when you hear someone talking nonsense like that it’s right to question their general take on life. Billy Bragg said not everyone who voted brexit is a racist but all racist voted brexit and it tends to be a good idea to not be on the same side as racist. Is Jay Beecher a racist? No idea but he’s clearly from this comment alone an idiot and I dare say that all the racist who were in agreement with him over brexit are probably in agreement with him again. If I was him I’d be questioning my outlook on life given the audience he’s attracting.

Yes you are right. I was just trying not to turn it into a brexit specific thing as for me this issue is way bigger, and I wasn’t trying to say that all brexiteers are racists or we just end up deflecting onto something else completely.

For me the ‘ignore them’ strategy doesn’t work, it’s got to be dealt with and stopped, not sure you’ll find too many pivotal moments of change in human history that were brought about by turning the other cheek & pretending it’s not happening in the hope it will just stop. That’s just my view though.

Scumbags throwing things at horses in London. I don't care if that offends anyone. No place for it.

Tbh starting on coppers that are just trying to keep order isn’t any better. Wanting justice, fine. Wanting respect? Nah mate.

Why would that offend anyone?

Wankers. Of course there is no place for it.
You know what it's like on here. People like to be faux offended to show they're not part of the problem. Easy stick to beat.

Tbh using this as a vehicle to be a c**t detracts from the genuine protest and the looters are all in the same bracket. It diminishes the point and defeats what's trying to be achieved by genuine heartfelt reasoned protest.

No. I doubt people are ‘faux offended’.
I meant why would anyone be offended that you said someone is a scumbag for throwing something at a horse.
