Agreed my only worry is how he will fair in the championship compared to the Dutch league I can’t help but feel the leagues are similar in level possibly tho

The Eredivisie has some good teams in it. Plenty of players have shown themselves capable of making the transition from Dutch football to English football.

Very much a focusing on the Prem, but you’ve got RVP, Suarez, Erikson, Kuyt, Wjinaldum and so on.

That said, Kastaneer was playing in the Eredivisie before he came to us. It does seem that his attitude is not good at all as opposed to having no talent at all.

Second division and injured most of the time

He was with the team that came bottom in Eredivise.

A weird coincidence I had:

Shortly after we signed him, I was in an Uber on my way home from work and the driver happened to be a Breda fan, I asked about Kastaneer and he responded negatively.

I also have an old Uni mate who supports Kaiserslautern - again, he didn’t like him either.

I think I am right in saying kasteneer and hamer were at Feyenoord during the same period, probably just coincidence but may have helped us get the deal across the line.

Shame you didn't post this the Sunday after the Bristol R result in August as an outlier!

I’ll be honest here, I thought Kastaneer was going to be a v good signing. Judging from the various comments about him from @better days - he just didn’t seem apply himself at all. (Please correct me if that’s not an unfair characterisation)

I only asked the latter friend in September when I was travelling around Italy - by then, questions were being asked about his fitness and so on.

People saying he’s the replacement for Walsh, to me he seems a different player to Walsh completely. He seems more of a Kelly type holding player, breaking up play and moving the ball on and spraying passes like a quarterback.

Not saying we will sign Walsh, just don’t feel he’s being signed (if true) to play the role Walsh played.

On the surface this seems a great signing (if it happens), but then again I remember a lot of people on here being equally excited by video clips of Kastaneer last Summer, and another from the Dutch leagues from way back, Ellery Cairo. While there has been no confirmation from MR or the club that there is anything in this, there's every chance this could just be an elaborate hoax, maybe aimed at drumming up interest by his club or agent.

Our success rate with Dutch ‘superstars’ is not great.

Difference is that when you asked Breda fans about Kastaneer it was all very negative (which at the time we dismissed as being because they were relegated). Zwolle fans are full of praise for Hamer.

FWIW, I think Kastaneer has talent. It seems to be his application that's the problem. I still think he has a chance to make it. Maybe a loan would be the best thing for him next year. Get some consistent game time.
