Looking back... Fuck me! How shit were we huffing and puffing past Southend on day one... They even had us on the rack in the final 15, and hit the bar!
We certainly grew into the season.
It was clear that Southend were going to struggle by watching them that day. Also, I would have had no idea that our season was going to pan out how it did.
The forced change to 5 at the back initially..( can't remember who against)., then a few games later - it didn't come straight away(I think) Kelly and Walsh in the box midfield transformed the season and we never looked back!!

And the 0-0 vs Bolton. It is funny how a season and team can evolve. Just proves what a fantastic manager we have.

I’ve read a lot of football books over the years where managers have said they are more interested in performances than results at the start of the season, and I think last season was like that for.

We couldn’t win away before Xmas but we were more often or not the best team in draw and not hanging on for a point.

Sunderland, Oxford, Peterborough away. Conceded 91st, 95th and 95th I think to snatch a win to a draw. We really should have been about 14 clear at lockdown

What about Sam McCallums free kick that went straight in at Colchester away in the cup lol no this has to be Walsh for goal of season

Plenty of great goals this season but it’s still the easiest answer. Walsh v Rochdale. None of the others come close (despite there being some great goals). Just a marker of how good it was.
